Even when the temperature is freezing outside, I have to really think if it'll be worth it to wear the jacket. This isn't good for city-use. Sure you'll be invincible with the below freezing weather and high winds, but once you hit the subway, don't be surprised to be the weirdo sweating and trying to take his jacket off. I've yet to experience weather cold enough that warranted wearing my Rho LT *and* the Cerium SV. Even if I was standing in the same spot in snow for, literally, 3 hours. It's deceptively warm because of how light it is. It's lighter than most of my light jackets and even the Alpha SV jacket. I highly suggest having this in your arsenal, but be very sure of if the day calls for it.

Bought this last winter. Great jacket - fits well, lots of nice little features (stuff sack for example). Very warm filling which hasn't been lost through use like lots of down jackets do. Works well from 0 to minus 30.

I purchased the Cerium SV Hoody to be my warmest mid layer. I would say it's more of a trim fit than a regular fit, but the loft plays a part into that. It is warm though. Excluding my jacket mid layers, and comparing Arc'teryx Hoodies only, I would have to say the Cerium SV is in fact the warmest. Second would be the Thorium AR and the Atom SV. Then the Atom AR and last the Proton AR. The Thorium AR is approximately 80% as warm as the Cerium SV. What surprises me the most, is the exceptional warmth I get from the Atom SV. It's definitely warmer than the Atom AR and pretty much equal to the Thorium, if not warmer. I do prefer synthetic over down just for the heat retention when wet and it still retains the r-value when compressed. With down you really notice the heat loss if the loft is compacted. (eg. wet or carrying a backpack). But as we all know, nothing beats the warmth and compressibility of good quality down, (750-fill and higher). I like the fact that Arc'teryx strategically places coreloft in areas prone to moisture and known compression points in their goose down outerwear apparel. I've been seriously testing clothing gear for 12 years and Arc'teryx still holds the top spot for quality outdoor clothing gear. I've been watching many companies over the last few years reduce quality and materials to increase profit margins and shares. And to just stay in the game. For most of us, paying the extra $$$ for good quality gear that's reliable and has a great warranty is worth the investment. After all, it could be your life on the line !!! Don't hesitate on the Cerium SV, it's a warm investment. Cheers

I've been wearing this jacket around town, to warm up/stay warm for winter climbing, and under a shell on super cold ski days for a little over a year and I gotta say, it's been stellar. As an added bonus, you can offset the price of this jacket by wearing it around the house and turning your thermostat way down To address the negative reviews: The material seems very fragile, but I haven't had any holes/tears even after a few run-ins w/ sharp trees while bushwhacking, and the saber claws of my friends objectively bad dog who is always jumping on people. As far as the zipper is concerned, I think it works great and I like the silky smooth action. Maybe it's a personal preference?

This is the perfect jacket for ski town living. My previous was a Mountain Hardware that I owned for 12yrs. I bought this in the beginning of 20-21 ski season and it's the best. Some nights get to -20F and I've been comfortable with just a Kuhl/Arcteryx light fleece under this jacket. Normally I just wear a long sleeve t-shirt unless temps dip below 15F. Pockets fit hands perfect when I forget gloves. Draw string hood fits perfect over my hair. Took a minute to dial in all the adjustments on hood but once you do it perfect. I see this lasting me 20 years.

I bought this after owning a Canada Goose for several years. This coat is by far warmer and feels slightly lighter. Win-win! I'll definitely look into more products from Arc'teryx

I got this a few months ago for the recent winter as a daily use jacket around town. It's perfect for the weather where I am, which is typically cold and dry. Probably the lightest puffer jacket I've worn. Feels so soft and comfortable.

I bought this a month ago during February because I have another Arc'teryx which I gave to local who had no jacket and we had the coldest winter ever in Texas that month! I ordered the more expensive jacket this time and it not only fit like a glove but was very warm with the airtight hood! I really liked the gold color! Excellent in extreme cold weather! Love the new jacket! Way to go Arc'teryx! Excellent feel!

Had returned this jacket twice in the past thinking it's too warm and already had a Thorium AR. So glad I finally decided to keep it. It is warmer, lighter, thinner and just easier to move in beneath my Beta SV. Seems to breathe a good bit better too. Do not buy it if you're going jogging, to me it's a walking and standing mid layer. I wear it with a shell when there's either heavy snow or -10c or colder.. otherwise i'll just go with my Thorium AR which is more durable/weather resistant.

Been getting into overnight camping in the Swiss mountains where I've gotten down to -10C (15F) so far. Advice was to get a good down jacket for times at camp and to layer in sleeping bag. I got the Cerium SV without actually knowing the brand, but it fit the bill as heavy yet compactable. The first time I used in action I had reached my campsite and by the time my tent and gear was set up was very cold indeed. But when I put on my Cerium, my sweet sweet lord, I was snug as a bug!!! Same in my 0C (32F) sleeping bag - layering up with the Cerium even in -10C I was comfortably warm!!! Plus packs up nice when space (and weight!) are at a premium. Not to mention that also fashionable enough for urban use on those cold winter days ;) Highly recommended. Trust me, you don't think about the price on a cold cold night ;)

I purchased this jacket as one of many fall weather jackets. It is becoming apparent that this one will be my favourite one. It is super warm, super fit, super look. With this jacket there will be no need to weigh yourself daily.~ this jacket will let you know when you are overindulging . Love it.

This Jacket has proven to be super warm at -30C but it still manages to vent excess heat in warmer temperatures. The material feels good on the skin, the outer material is fairly thin though. Combines well with a hard shell for extra protection.

As most reviews note, this jacket is a bit too insulated for most activities. But for my use, where it really shined was on a 6-day camping trip in cold temperatures. While each day included plenty of running, biking and hiking, the majority of my day was spent hanging around camp for meals and relaxing. Under these conditions, this jacket has immeasurable value. I've spent years layering up in the cold, only to still feel a chill and never really get my core temperature up enough for true comfort. The Cerium SV allowed me to feel as comfortable as I would at home, even when the temperature dropped and there was no campfire. When I think back to all the cold nights over the years when I would have given anything to just get my core temperature up, I just wish I had bought this jacket a long time ago. And when the wind picked up and I need a little extra late at night, my Proton LT fit comfortably underneath. This jacket fulfills a need I've had for 30 years and never truly solved until now, and that is really something.

The Cerium SV Hoody is the newest addition to my layering system. I had my Cerium LT Hoody for two seasons and that did an adequate job as a mid-layer or a stand-alone outer layer in a pinch but when it came to taking a break in cold weather conditions, or on the approach at say Kilimanjaro, it was just barely enough to get me by. There had to be a warmer way of doing things? Enter my Cerium SV Hoody. Just used it a couple weeks ago up at Rainier during a 3-day avalanche course. There was a great deal of field work that required a bit of standing around, listening to short lectures in inclement weather, etc. In order to stay ahead of the curve, I'd pull it out of the top of my pack, put it on, and stay toasty warm in this lightweight, very warm 850-fill down parka (comes with a stuff-sack).

This jacket has surpassed expectations. When I recieved my order I was extremely sceptical due to the lightweight, almost fragile build. How wrong I was though; working in Labrador, Canada this jacket has kept me warm in -30 degrees Celsius with winds exceeding 60km/h with nothing but a t-shirt shirt underneath! This jacket has been an absolute lifesaver, would highly recommend

Bought this jacket after talking to my son about his jacket and he is 100 % right. This is as close to a perfect product as you can get and I completely enjoy it. I actually am glad that it is now fall and winter is around the corner as I know that I will be warm as long as I am wearing this jacket.

Bought this for standing around at night while camping and taking nightscape photography shoots. It does the job very well at some times I even undo just to cool down a bit. The jacket packs down well into it's own stuff sack so no reason not to take it with me. Wish I had bought it sooner.

I've been wanting a true down coat and saved up to make sure I got the best, and I've not been disappointed. I live in Colorado and have for almost 20 years so I can safely say I know what "real" cold feels like, and having this in it's stuff sack in the car during winter months keeps me always prepared for the worst. If weather is really intense, I use this under a Arc'Teryx LEAF shell and the combo is "bomb proof"
