Just got this bad boy in the mail today. Amazing warmth. I'm worried about the 10D exterior fabric though. I also bought the Thorium AR recently and I am much more confident moving around in it's 30D exterior. What would be great is if the Cerium SV had even a little tougher exterior- even 20D. I get the lightweight concept but this feels as thin as tissue paper. I wish they wouldn't have discontinued the Thorium SV- that seems a little more practical. Not sure what I'm going to do yet, if I'm going to return it or what. This jacket is amazing but the fragile exterior is a borderline deal killer.

I love my Cerium SV. It's warm, on-trend, and lightweight. The only thing I am concerned about is it's durability over time. The material it's made with doesn't seem the strongest, and I'm concerned a dog jumping up, or a tree limb might do it it. Time will tell.

I purchased both the Thorium AR and Cerium SV this winter, each through sales. Both are the current model. The cerium sv does have some substantial advantages to the thorium. Firstly, it's hood with its multiple adjustments makes it far easier to trap warmth in, and keep cold out. This is especially true given the down insulation of its hood. The torso is slim and fits well over a base layer like the phase AR, or even a cirium lt on colder days. The synch cords work better then the cerium lt, which might be due to a shorter torso length that doesn't extend over the butt as much. The true complaints about this jacket are firstly the chin area. The arato 7 and 10 are easily worn by any chin stubble, even by someone who shaves 2 times a week due to a lack of facial hair. This could be an issue for multiple winters. Why not place more durable fabric there? The fabric complaint extends to the outer durability, such as using it as an outer layer on cold days without precipitation, as well as anchoring down insulation. Despite the 850 fill that is generous, I have found that insulation in the elbows and shoulders tends to clump in the portions of the baffle that contract the least, creating cold spots in areas of high movement. This is true even when wearing a hard shell. Cold air is easily funneled through. The thorium ar, while cheaper, heavier, and with less impressive down fill, does a better job of holding down distribution more evenly due to its more robust fabric. The thorium's outer fabric also seems to help with warmth by being less breathable to wind. Due to the nature of down, breathability should be less important than holding in warmth. High exertion should be for synthetics. In my opinion, the cerium sv is more warm than the throrium, but the price difference is not worth the small difference. To make this jacket far better, why not use the Arato 30 outer fabric? This might add some weight, but it would substantially improve the usability of this jacket.

I've been wearing this jacket around town, to warm up/stay warm for winter climbing, and under a shell on super cold ski days for a little over a year and I gotta say, it's been stellar. As an added bonus, you can offset the price of this jacket by wearing it around the house and turning your thermostat way down To address the negative reviews: The material seems very fragile, but I haven't had any holes/tears even after a few run-ins w/ sharp trees while bushwhacking, and the saber claws of my friends objectively bad dog who is always jumping on people. As far as the zipper is concerned, I think it works great and I like the silky smooth action. Maybe it's a personal preference?

Great jacket for staying warm during a commute on cold, dry days in the city. However, I can't imagine taking this jacket out into the elements. The Arato 10 fabric is simply too fragile. It feels great when you put it on and the fit is great, but you quickly find yourself trying to avoid touching stuff with the sleeves and so on. It doesn't feel like an SV jacket, more like an LT jacket. If they had used Arato 30 or sommerhusgrunde like that, like on the Thorium, it would have been a tank of a jacket, truly living up to it's SV classification.

This is an ultralight, ultra-warm down jacket. I really like the composite mapping with a blend of down, synthetic in exposed areas. The superb compress-ability makes this ideal for cold moutaineering and cold touring days. The zippers could use a bit of a beef-up as they seem really small and are little bit pesky to handle in gloves. Also I have been seeing a decent amount of shedding, mostly through the baffle stitches. All in all a good jacket, not great. The price tag will leave you wanting. I think there are other, better options out there.

For going out around town or hiking in Minneapolis on cold winter days, this jacket with its hood is both warm and protective. The nautic grey color is attractive without being the usual black. However, I am disappointed that an expensive Arcteryx down jacket like this isn't made with a beard guard. Especially considering that other premium alpine down jackets in this class like say Montane, Marmot and NorthFace are. Whats up with that? It won't be long before my collar and chin zip area get scuffed and stained with oil. Also the jacket doesn't come with a break away zipper, which I also would have expected on a jacket like this?

First off, the greatest jacket i've ever own. It's extremely light, extremely warm even at -30 degrees the mid layer itself. I love it. But the down insulation comes out so much and so easily that it's shedding like cat hair. I don't know if i was unlucky enough to get a disfuntional one, but everytime i put the jacket on and take the jacket off there are pieces (small and large) that flies out. My friend got the Thorium version and he, on the other hand has no problem with shedding...

Super light. Very cold for doing anything in the city. Not warm at all. I don't know how people go on expeditions or whatever marketing images you have. I'm freezing after 20 minutes at the park once it's below 0C.

I bought the previous Cerium SV last year and it was stated 100% goose down (850) on the website. I like the lightweight of the jacket except its rubbish zipper. I bought the newer version 2 months ago and thought it would remain the same quality with an improved zipper (since there were tons of complaints about this issue below). However, apparently Arcteryx decided to ignore the customer feedbacks (still uses the same zipper) and the quality even hits its new low by using Synthetic insulation instead of full goose down. I dare you to publish the actual weight of goose down filling of this jacket. As a frequent customer of Arcteryx, I am very disappointed to a good brand going down. I am planning to buy another one for my Mom, but maybe I should give a second thought.

This jacket is extremely warm, very packable, and very lightweight. It is a great piece for dry and sedentary times. This being said, the jacket is extremely fragile. I'm talking don't walk too close to tree branches and be COMPLETELY aware of your surroundings at all times fragile. I have personally returned two of these jackets for warranty and they have been deemed irreparable due to the extent of the damage. I would recommend that you do not purchase this jacket if you are a hard or even medium use person. It should be pretty much a sedentary use piece.

Seems a nice jacket but not a very comfortable fit. Very tight around arms and shoulders. Also, zip is not what you'd expect for such an expensive jacket.

Unfortunately one week into owning this jacket the material tore while carrying my sleeping boy from the car to the house. I have no idea what could have caused this failure, as there are no feathers in the car, along our path, or on him. Nor are there any sharp edges anywhere that I can find. I noticed the tear immediately after closing the door to his nap room. Now I can't imagine going into the elements without shredding this expensive jacket to pieces. I'm disappointed in the material selection, and should have returned the jacket the moment I noticed how thin and fragile it would be.

I had high hopes for this coat. Unfortunately, it was not to be. The coat is very warm, which is great. However, after one use, the inside of the coat started to smell like sweat bacteria. This is strange, bc none of my other ski garments (including other down nylon jackets) smell like this. It's the only piece of clothing I've ever had to buy some anti-odour and even then it still smells even though I've only used it a handful of times in a medium exertion setting. It's probably the combination of the material and the very high armpits....? Next up, the zippers. the handles are very small if you're wearing gloves or mitts. The main zipper also frequently gets stuck on the coat shell and tears small holes in it where down escapes. As well, the zipper is very weak and shattered on me in -10C conditions when I gave it a tug to unstick it. So that made for some breezy times with a fully open coat. Oh, and when the zippers are working properly, they seem to move on their own a lot which is quite annoying when you're trying to keep a tight seal to stay warm. I love Arcteryx stuff, but this jacket seems poorly designed for some reason.

Mauvaise conception!...

the coat is warm, light and comfortable but the fabric tears super easily. i waked by a soft baby tree and the back of the coat ripped open spreading down everywhere. i didn't even know something happened until i saw tons of down on the ground. it ripped a 8" whole that couldn't be repaired. not covered by warranty, had to pay to get it replaced.
