Honestly altra should just remake, exactly, the original Escalante. It was great for road/track ultras. Everything after the first version has had a sole that is too stiff. Quit trying to pander to marathoners.

Most favorite Escalante yet. 200 miles in and still running great. I'll be buying more. Don't change it!!!

Best Escalante shoe I've owned thus far! I've had the 2, 2.5 & 3. The 2 & 2.5 were great shoes but were a little too plush for my liking & the toe box was very wide (Great shoes is you have super wide feet). The 3's were too narrow (Great shoe if you have narrow feet). These 4's are a very good sweet spot between the 2.5 & 3. It's gives you a lot of room in the mid foot & toe box but not too much like the 2.5's. Not narrow like the 3's. These are just right! As far as the experience running in this shoe it feels a lot like the 3. More responsive than the 2.5 & SLIGHTLY more firm. They are also more breathable than the 3, comparable to the 2.5's in terms of breathability. Secure & comfortable lock down in the heel/ankle & mid foot. These feel amazing on feet. I ended up buying 2 more pairs of this shoe! Great job Altra for making those well needed adjustments!
I posted a picture of the 2.5's & 4's side by side to show the width difference in the shoe. Unless you have extremely wide feet these 4's will feel amazing for you. I'm usually a 2E/4E in running shoes & these 4's were amazing for me, the 2.5's were a bit too wide in the toe box for me. The 4's have a bit more structure to them than the 2.5's which was a plus for me!
Side Note: I've tried on the Escalante Racer 2 those felt pretty good but was too firm for my liking.

Ultimate flexibility, perfect toe box for independent forefoot mechanics, neutral, a little cushion with maintaining minimalism. Older Lone Peaks, older Escalantes, and Alpine LPs are the only Altras that have worked well for me. The Escalante 4 has been the best followed by Alpine LPs a close second. Never thought the Alpine LP could be beat. Obviously, different uses, but for the purpose of walking........regardless of terrain, the Escalante 4s are the best for me. I'm also hyper-sensitive. 99.9% of shoes will immediately create biomechanical dysfunction somewhere between the foot all the up to the pelvis and in between the pelvis/lower extremity joints. I can where name a shoe including most Altras and they will usually shutdown neuromuscular function in the foot/ankle/knew/hip/trunk/spine. Not the Escalante 4. If you have had good experiences with other Escalantes and the Apline LP, your body will most likely be compatible with these.

I wasn't thrilled with any of the women's models/colors in wide width, so I decided to purchase the Men's Escalante 4 (mens regular is equivalent to womens wide width) instead.
I wear a 10-10.5 wide in womens and went with the mens size 9 in black/white - perfect fit. Of course I wish the color was a bit more feminine, but at least there was a neutral option!
I'm new to the wide toe box, zero drop but I'm absolutely in love with this shoe & hope I never have to go back to traditional tennis shoes. Zero-drop requires some adjustment time - my calves have been BURNING on walks, so I've had to slow it down.
FYI I tried Flux footwear first, but they are ridiculously narrow, so I had to return (also beware their return policy). I wear my new altras for walking and strength training primarily, and I plan to wear them when I visit London for 10 days in October.
So happy with my purchase overall. One critique is I'd like to see more wide-width options for women.

Clunky. Lack style. Don't like the soles. Preferred the 2.5. Seems like the company has lost it's way.

After breaking these in I fell I love with these shoes. I use them at the gym, weight lifting and on the treadmill as well as casually getting my steps in around the neighborhood. Great fit, style, and color (I got the black ones). I hope keep this style exactly the same. Though, I already got a back up pair waiting in the wings.

I've owned both the Escalante 3 and 4 having logged a 1000+ miles in both models. The 4 is a great addition to this series and is great for all distances and speeds. I have multiple PRs in this shoe

I'm coming from the Escalante Racer and I thought maybe I should I have more cushioning as I get older and I prefer the color choices for the Escalante. So I find this shoe super comfortable and it looks great too!

These are fantastic shoes! There is so much room in the toe box and these shoes are so comfortable. I bought them a month ago and I don't think I've put another shoe on since! I wear these shoes to walk and to jog, and they are the best sneaker I have ever worn. I have a lot of nagging injuries in my ankles/knees, and these shoes have helped so much with decreasing this pain. They are the best, I doubt I'll ever buy another sneaker. 10/10 definitely would recommend!

I'm a Chi marathon runner, and I've bought new editions of Escalantes annually for the last four years. I put 500-600 miles on each pair, they've all worked great for me, no negatives to report.

Absolutely wonderful. Took some time to transition from Hokas but after 1.5 years of plantar fasciitis I am living pain free. I do do regular exercises to strengthen my foot " core" and active stretching. See also Frank NG on you tube if you have PF.

Great so far. Best zero drop shoes around. They fit well and the extra room in the toe box is one of my favorite things. Haven't had them that long, so really looking forward to putting in a lot more miles.

First time getting into running and normally wear zero drop wide shoes. After much research these seem to be the best fit. Still wide enough, had to do half size bigger for comfort. Really enjoy the cushion as I'm training for a marathon but it doesn't feel too ridiculous like Olympus 2 which while cushioned, made me feel I'd sprain an ankle rolling it and the rocker seems like cheating/defeating the purpose of a zero drop. Awesome running shoe, works well in hot weather. Also nice color.

I have suffered with numbness and tingling in my left foot for years. I've tried traditional running shoes and even surgery with no improvements in symptoms. Working in escalante's has helped.

After being a long time New Balance 1080 fan I can't imagine walking or running in anything else. The toe box is nice and wide. I really have nothing to complain about.

I work in a Running Store (Love 2 Run Auburn) so obviously I wear almost every shoe in the store. However the Escalante 4 is by far my favorite shoe both for being on my feet all day and for running. I almost passed them off because I disliked the version 3 so bad but I am so glad I found the Escalante 4!

85 miles in and still a big fan. After 50 miles, I ordered the Racer 2s to try out and that confirmed how much more I love these. Buying 2nd pair now, hoping for some better color schemes

I use this product as my running shoes. They are the only shoes I am running with but I want to get a rotation.

Feel lighter and nimbler running, working out or just walking around. The all black version can be worn with anything and not look like you are wearing your athletic shoes.

I thought I knew what love was with my Escalante 3's. I was mistaken because these 4's are even better. The ground feel and foam is perfect! Even the upper fits a bit better (somehow). 6 stars.

I was a huge fan of the original Escalante and the Escalante 1.5. Maybe it was me but something changed and it didnt feel as awesome as it used to be. Well this Escalante 4 is WONDERFUL. Ive already started stocking up. I run in the Escalante racer when its summer and this Escalante 4 has that firm cushioning that just feels perfect. Thank you Altra for bringing back the Escalante to its original Awesomeness!

Reasonably perfect. Only issue I had was that they came to me dirty on the left two. Since they're white, it shows pretty well. But I love the shoes and needed them, so I'll keep it and just say, let's make sure things are clean next time.
