I'm pleasantly surprised by how warm this jacket is given its light weight. I've owned it for several weeks and have worn it with a light base layer in 30-35 degrees F with 5-25 mph winds and am very warm. I bought this jacket with the intention of being comfortable in temperatures between 15-40 degrees F in both windy and rainy conditions as a mid layer using a Beta shell for rain and a fleece base for additional warmth, if needed. Haven't had the opportunity to test the rain or freezing temperatures with the layering system yet but I believe the Atom Heavyweight is going to be the perfect mid layer. I'm 5 10 and 155 lbs with a 30 in waist. I purchased a M which fits nicely. Some reviewers have complained the midsection is too baggy in the revised model. I also own a 2018 Atom LT in size S which also fits perfectly. I agree the revised sizing is less fitted. However, I want a bit of extra room in the heavyweight so I'm able to layer it for below freezing temperatures. I prefer the Atom LT to be fitted because I'm not going to layer it. Speaking of sizing and layering, I would not size up to a L Beta shell if you wear a M Atom. I tried it and the arms were so long I could not see my fingertips. Also the S Kyanite light fleece works well under the M Atom. I've also read some reviews critical of the revised heavyweight model in terms of qualityfabric, fit, zipper, hood. Compared to my 2018 Atom LT, I don't find any difference in quality. Yes, the fit is different but the purpose of the jackets is different. Im not layering an Atom LT which is intended for temps 40 plus degrees. My sales person was actually wearing an LT in the store. If your intention for buying this jacket is like mine, I'd highly recommend it.

I bought it 2 weeks ago and gave it a try up to -10C and I'm quite happy with it. Winters in Austria are quite dry but windy. So it's a solid choice. Maybe I will add another warme option and a lighter version of atom hoodie.

I really love this jacket as it's a perfect company for my skitouring training, to keep me warm at multipole winter sports activities and it's chic for a stroll though the snowy city!

I received my first Atom Jacket in 2009 as a staff jacket for an outdoor program. That jacket is still in the mix and my friends still talk about how it is the best jacket we have ever had. The original is still functional but the nylon has some UV damage and tears easily, I melted a bit of the sleeve when operating an MSR stove. With its patches, UV damage, a little melted nylon--still the jacket I use all the time. As the original aged I bought a replacement after 10 years. The new Atom was great, but it was lost/stolen during a wilderness rescue training. I just purchased the third. Even though I have a lot of jackets, this is my go to, comfortable in the widest range of weather, everyday winter jacket, I wear it to work, skiing, my around camp after hiking jacket. It even my pillow when camping. It is simple, warm, my helmets can fit under the hood, and the sleeves are long enough jacket. I say get it in black so it will not go out of style and writing your name on the inside in magic marker as soon as you get it.

Spectacular. The new Atom is even better than the old Atom. Lighter but still substantial warmth. I think the new plastic zipper pull tabs are really nice. They make finding and using the pulls much easier. The hood now has a bit more form and slight visor pad that holds shape. I didn't think it would be as nice as the original Atom that had been traded in, but wrong I was. This is an outstanding jacket, wind resistant but very breathable. Knowing it will last as long as the old one, over ten years, makes it all that more of a value. One more outstanding piece from Arcteryx.

I have the Atom Hoodie, SV, which I bought in 2012. This has been a great jacket, midweight, one I wear from approximately -15 C to +5 C. It has served me well doing multiple mountaineering activities, as part of a layering system, or on its own. This includes winter hiking, Alpine touring skiing, as well as ice climbing. Despite 4 to 6 months per year of consistent use, after 11 years, it is still looking great. The neat thing, is that the main zipper broke down, and Arcteryx was able to perform a complete repair, for only the cost of me shipping it to them . This product has given me great value, and I hope to enjoy it for another decade.

First of many Arc'teryx purchases! I would wear this jacket everyday for the rest of my life if I could. In heritage red making me feel like a true Canadian patriot. When I say "midlayer dreams are made of", I literally mean that the insulation and materials are so soft, I'd belive you if you told me the jacket was made up of clouds. Ten out of ten, would recommend this heavyweight, again and again and again.

Works great as a belay jacket for all but the coldest days of ice climbing and mountaineering. I've used mine for a few hundred days of guiding in all seasons over the last 3 years and it's holding up well.

Absolutely fantastic jacket, and as I hoped with the new sizing revision, it fits perfectly! I ordered the Black XL and the bit larger fit was just right! I normally would lean more to a XXL but XXL always ends up baggy and too large on me but this was perfect! It is quite warm for its lightness and packability and the hood design is top notch. I love everything about this jacket. Great job Arc'teryx!

I haven't bought this yet but it's strong option. I like Atom LT hoody and this Atom Heavyweight is more warm so better for colder months. It seems to have a better hood with brim and adjustments for the front which LT hoody doesn't have. Both jackets have excellent pockets and their placement. It's much better that chest pocket is inside than outside and it has zipper closure. And both jackets have simple elastic cuffs which is very good. I'm waiting Arcteryx makes this Atom Heavyweight in Arctic Silk or WarmStone colour. Both are excellent creamy colours!!

I had the original atom hoody way back when it first came out and it was by far and beyond the best outer layer I have ever had. Unfortunately, I left it in an airport several years ago and have been waiting for the heavyweight to come back! This hoody meets all of my extremely high expectations. It's super warm, light, comfortable, water resistant etc. can't say enough about it but it's my go to for everything and favourite by far. Worth the money. 6ft2 225lbs and xl fits nice

I wanted a warm but light jacket for outdoors in the colder dry days. This jacket was in the price range I wanted and the reviews were all positive. I loved the fit right away and the sleeve bands are perfect. The pockets are just right and the single inside 'wallet' pocket works very well. The hood is roomy but also has tie for adjustment which I haven't had to use yet. It's great to wear over a single t shirt or a thermal base layer, plus room for a sweater on top. I am happy with the colour I chose but there is a limited choice, the only thing that isn't perfect about this jacket. I would buy another one tomorrow if I needed to and that's as good as anyone needs to know!

I have to admit when I first saw how thin the jacket was I really didn't believe it could be all that warm. However, I put it on and it fit perfectly. I am 5'11 and weigh in at about 185. I wore it out one morning when it was in the mid thirties. I only had a polo shirt underneath. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself very warm. As the temperature reached the mid forties I found myself unzipping it. And at around fifty degrees the coat had to come off. Grant it I work outside. Nevertheless all my expectations were met. It's a great product worth every penny

I bought this jacket just under a year ago, primarily for use as a midlayer whilst working and skiing in very cold temperatures in Whistler. I can honestly say that I've worn it almost every single day since. As comfortable as a hoodie, as warm as a puffa, not bad on breathability and decently water resistant. It's kept me cosy in temps of -30C with proper layering - the only downside in my eyes is it's lack of packability.
