I have been wearing Altras for the better part of 10 years. Been telling people about them for just as long since they have been a huge part of being able to compete in ultra marathons since wearing them. Sadly each subsequent version of the Lone Peak since the 3.5 has gotten progressively worse in fit and design. The "Original Footshape Fit" continues to vary from model to model within the LonePeak family. Construction and design continue to cheapen more and more for the sake of a few cents of manufacturing cost as well. I recently had a ruck where I competed in my Lone Peak 6 and they broke down 15 miles in. The cushion is gone and blisters proceeded to set in. Figured I would try the Hiker 2 as the next go. Unfortunately there are some serious flaws that make me question if the designers have ever set foot in the great outdoors.
The footbed had changed again in shape. I find these to be wide in the heel and narrow in the toebox. More so than any Altra I have worn to date. Not much different than a standard wide sneaker for an obese person with cankles. Not saying the toebox is low volume. It is not, it is narrower but also taller. Fits poorly compared to previous Lone Peak models.
The tongue is not gusseted along with having a very weird attachment that allows junk to permeate into the shoe. Not good for a hiker when one is walking through the debris of nature.
I am still lost on the idea of the weird heel thing on the sole that hangs out the back. That ridiculous thing has been flipping sand and junk into the backs of the shoes since the Lone Peak 4 like an enemy catapult out to destroy you. This model is no exception except it is higher powered and can effectively pitch more crap into the mid height shoe than all previous models could do in the low tops. At least the low tops have the integrated gaiter attachment. The Hiker? Nope. Gone.
Last but not least is the insole and footbed do not move together. The sole bends out, the insole bends up. Then the shoe straightens out and they slap together. These things sound like flip flops with every step. Except they'll give more blisters than flip flops in just a few miles.
Seriously Altra, do you guys even test your product anymore or just send "updates" straight from the computer screen to the production line?

I love the zero drop sole, but I had to go a full size up for proper fit, and it still feels much more narrow than the tennis shoes. I bought them because I'm desperate for a zero drop shoe with ankle support, but I'll be looking for an improved boot. The width has been the most disappointing factor. Even though I went up a size, the width changed very little. If I recommended to a friend, I would caution them on the width.

By far the best shoe I've purchased. It's EXTREMELY difficult to find shoes for size 16.
The only hangup I have is that ALTRA does not keep extended sizes In stock. Still waiting a year later.

I am the biggest fan of these boots! for what it's designed for I feel that Altra did an amazing job with this boot. And, it's named after the very first peak I summited as kid growing up in Utah, I love that Altra stays true to their roots here in the Wasatch.

1/2 size up, fit great. I've had these in perfect trail conditions, postholing in frozen slush junk, slick mud, river crossing, bushwhacking. Combine with trekking poles and you have 4x4.

I suffer from morton's neuroma and low back pain. Decided to try zero drop shoes and a wider toe box. Altra seemed like a good option to try. I wore Red Wings previously. I wear these hikers daily for my everyday shoe. I work outdoors everyday in a farm and ranch environment. I really enjoy these shoes. Neuroma is better. Back pain is better.
Altra - please consider a "work" line of footwear. I'd be first in line.

I can't comment on durability, but they are super comfortable. They are the right fit in my mid foot and heel, and nice and roomy in the toe box. I usually wear 11 and I had to go up to 11.5

I gave it 5 stars because it's true to the description on the website. Super comfy insole, good ankle support, & though not waterproof, it kept most of the water I splashed in, out of my shoe. I would say once water gets on past the tongue, then you'll feel it. I hiked in Yosemite and Redwoods and they were a good pair to have. The extra toe space was a nice addition too.
Only drawback is though it has grip on the outsole, once dust or even a smooth stone/tree branch/etc is underneath it, it does have trouble staying true.
Overall a good shoe, I even planned on writing a review when I got back home. I threw the shoe through the wringer and tripped over enough rocks or slipped down a few mountains to say that it held up.

These are incredible boots! These boots would be perfect for wear as non-standard military boots, but the blue sole and black fabric on the heel make them unwearable for this purpose due to uniformity standards (most units allow non-standard boots for wear in many circumstances as long as they are over the ankle and Coyote Brown / tan in color). Missing a major opportunity for massive sales to Marines / Soldiers by not offering an all Coyote Brown or tan option that matches the brown suede color.

I was skeptical at first since the boot feels very flimsy but having hiked with them for almost a year in the New Zealand bush, they are still holding strong. Please don't change a thing, Altra as I would keep buying this model once the ones I have are knackered.

I replaced my well worn Lone Peak Hikers with Long Peak Hiker 2: Same size, great fit. Like the wide toe box and firm sole. Also seems like better bend at the toe base. Improved lacing system for easier tighten-up. I like the high-top for extra ankle support.

I really like the Lone Peak Hiker 2. Lots of room for my toes and my feet stay comfortable even on rocky surfaces. I like the fit and feel of them. Hiking and trail running feel so much nicer while wearing these shoes. My brother recommended me to visit the Altra site, he has runs 100 mile trail marathons. Definitely no issues with these. I'm going to get another pair for work as well. I'm a carpenter and like the feel of the sole for balance and comfort.

I have some lone peak 1s and just got some 2s - I absolutely love the foot shape. I have rucked miles in these and they never feel tight around my toes.
I really would love to see a coyote brown that I could wear in regs around base - please

Big improvement over the first gen Hiker. Love the LP platform + the extra ankle support, just ordered my second pair. PLEASE make GORE-TEX version in a dark colorway, no white soles on hiking shoes.

I own all three colors. Great hiker with plenty of cushion and width. Just go a half size up and you are good to go.

The show does feel slightly smaller than some of the other Altra's, besides that it's a great hiker. Great cushioning, while still being minimalistic. Great ankle support, and light for all day hiking

I was a little concerned by some other reviews, but ended up ordering my regular size anyways and they fit like any other Altra I've had. They are hard to put on, but so we're the previous gen, and these have vastly improved ankle engagement so it doesn't bother me. I did a one day R2R2R in the old mids that were great and these seem like a nice improvement all around.

I bought these shoes as a lightweight adventure shoe with some more support than a low top. They were exactly that; light as a feather and with enough support to last all day throughout the ruins.
They were not hard to put on or take off if you appreciate that they are a boot without any metal fasteners to save weight.

26 miles in the trinity's. The lone peak shoe held up perfectly. Very comfortable and they dry extremely fast.

I've had several pairs of Altra shoes, because once I got my first pair they are all I want to wear, because they don't squeeze my toes together into an unnatural position. I wish I had been wearing these all my life. I walk several miles a day, sometimes in town and sometimes on mountain trails, so good shoes are important to me.
I've had a few pairs of Altra shoes wear out prematurely, apparently due to inferior material. They wear holes at the point where my foot bends at the base of the toes, while the rest of the shoe is still in good shape. That area bends back and forth as I walk so I can see why holes would wear there, but I have never had shoes wear holes in that area as prematurely as these did. Only a few of my Altra shoes wore holes like this; others lasted as long as I expected shoes to last. I can not say if this most recent pair will wear out like that.
The first few pairs I got had hardware for attaching gaiters. I like this feature because the gaiters keep little rocks from getting into the shoes on mountain trails. But it looks like they stopped making shoes with that hardware, because I can't find any that have it.
Overall these are the best shoes I have ever worn, even in spite of the two complaints I have. I hope they will consider remedying these problems.
