I typically run in the Superior, but with the changes in the Superior 5 that didn't fit my foot anymore, I was on the quest for a new Altra shoe. I run 25-35 miles a week, and run a few 50Ks and maybe a 50 miler per year. I really liked this shoe, and bought it in mid-February. I wore it for a muddy 50K last weekend in early April and the upper completely ripped open. On both sides of the shoe. They had to have had less than 200 miles on them. It is a shame, because I loved how it fit, but it needs to be made with a more durable upper.

I run about 3-5 times a week and I LOVE them. I usually get Brooks which are really good but I'll never go back. These shoes are the BEST! They feel so good on my feet. Good arch support.

This is my second pair of Altra shoes. I use them for running and walking around in. As someone who has had ankle and shin injuries, I am very picky about my running shoes. I would absolutely recommend these to anyone!

I was looking for a zero-drop shoe for my narrow feet, that would work for trail and road and this one is amazing! They were squeaky at first, but I sprinkled some baking soda under the insole and it went away!

I'm a 53 year old woman and have run 6 road or gravel marathons in 4 years with TIMPs. Most of my training is on dirt and gravel. I wanted to try these for my seventh road race (Eugene Marathon...go Ducks!) so I used them for about 10% of the last portion of my training. Sure they felt a little more snug especially with my toe socks. And honestly on race day I wasn't sure if they were the right choice. But the day after my race, it took me a while before I realized my feet didn't hurt AT ALL! This is unlike every other race even with cushy TIMPs! It was quite a revelation especially considering they have less cushioning. I only have about 150 miles on them so can't speak about durability but I did test them on gravel and asphalt and so far so good. While I still like TIMPs for the majority of my dirt and gravel training, I think I'll keep incorporating these into longer distance runs. They're a win for me!

I purchased this shoe looking for a shoe that would work on both pavement, gravel, and trail since that is what I run on most often. I've put nearly 400 miles on them and have had no issues.

Wore this shoe in the city and hiking up a rocky trail. The left shoe started squeaking - followed the advice of another reviewer and put some baking soda under the insole. No more squeaking

I've used Altra trail shoes in the past and have many pairs and was looking for one that was more versatile because most of my runs are a combo of trail, gravel, and pavement all at the same time. And the Outroad was that perfect combo. The cushion is soft but not overly plush. The material doesn't tear easily and has some precipitation resistance. The toe box is a bit narrower but that's the nature of the slim fit, but I've taken this shoe on many runs and the width hasn't been a problem despite having wider feet. The grip of the shoe is perfect for going between gravel, trail, and pavement. I also love the colors this shoe comes in.

i really like these. I used to walk in less beefed up outsoles, but I'm over 65 now and the collagen under my skin has thinned out, so if I wear shoes w/out enough "stack" my heels and midfoot start to ache. I like the hybrid idea, since i do a lot of walking but not only on asphalt; sometimes on dirty and walking in forests and national parks. I need the Slim Fit shoe last/cut because my feet are mediium toward the narrower side, and they are "low volume" so not real fleshy to take up room in a shoe. I just like a wide toebox, and these are still wider than every off-the shelf shoe out there. I also love the zero drop......I have herniated discs and bad knees and they don't hurt at all anymore with zero drop shoes. As for sizing, for me these ran about 1/2 size small, which is what it says on the website here, too. These won't win any fashion contests but i don't care about that. The outsoles are very springy and forgiving.

Just ran the Gorges 100k yesterday and the shoe ripped on the side. I had to wait at an aid-station until someone ran to my car to get my LonePeaks. I think this shoe isn't equipped to handle the elements of real trails (you can tell from the other ripped shoe review below-same spot) If you're going to spend this amount of money on a shoe- keep these out of the elements and on clean, dry roads. Not meant for the Ultra running world just yet {IMO}

I love the fit & comfort of this shoe but I don't think I would purchase again. After only a month of wear (walking only), the material that attaches to the fabric on the sides of each shoe is coming apart. The tongue is also way shorter on one shoe which makes the laces rub the top of my ankle when tied (not even using the top eyelet). I really wish these shoes were better quality since they are comfortable. But overall just not worth the money for the quality received.

Definitely runs small, but I love this shoe especially when I sized up. Probably not for the extra wide foot since it is their Slim fit. My foot is kinda narrow and I wear my Correct Toes in these. I have 4 pairs now. I bought my husband a pair and he needs a size up too and I bought my daughter a pair and she was fine. I love the cushion in the Outroad. Would highly recommend!

I have narrow feet but also like room in the toe box, and the fit on these is perfect. Super comfortable shoe to walk the dog on the trails

This is the best Altra shoe I have found to walk on pavement. Because of the thinner toe box, I needed to go up a 1/2 size from my normal size in Altra shoes.

I purchased this shoe because the width, I have a narrow foot and long toes. I needed a shoe that would allow my toes wiggle room and not allow my foot to slide from side to side as I hiked trails. This shoe gives stability and support that I was looking for. My toes are happy too!

So I love these. I would say they are wide in all the right places. The heel and mid foot are more fitted, but the toe box is roomy. I have to wear wides in all shoes. For example I have hoka bondi in a 7 wide and they are roomy. An 8 in these are perfect!!!! I like that the tongue is secured with a band in the midfoot. My heel doesn't come up at all. As always I wish they made altars deeper. My toes always hit the top but it doesn't hurt or anything I don't think they need break in time like some others have said. However I have only walked in them so far. They feel good cushiony but don't feel like they are super high. Great on gravel.

I'm a fan of Altra, love my lone peaks and I did end up liking my Olympus hiking boots even though they did have a weird point at the tongue seam, they ended up working out. So I decided to try their road runners gotta say for the longest time, I thought shoes had to be broken in, my feet would ache with every new pair for the first several runs but these were amazing on my first run! No ache, no blisters, just perfect. I've ran in ASICS, Brooks, new balance, Saucony and Hoka. These are by far superior. If anything changes after I've had them awhile I'll re-review but love at first run which I've never experienced with a running shoe!

This review is for the Altra Outroad in the Brown w/Green outsoles only. For context, I am normally a size 9 in street shoes, 9.5 in athletic and most all Altra models, but I needed a size 10 in these as they do tend to run a bit short in length for many people. (and you will see under the photos of the colors, and before the sizes, that Zappos did their due dilligence by mentioning in writing "Fits a 1/2 size up for most. Your usual size may feel tight." Yes, these are built on the slimmer shoe last that Altra offers. (they have original, standard, and slim). However, compared to any other brand, the toebox and last, in the slim model, the toebox is STILL way way wider than most every off-the-shelf shoe out there. While I have a somewhat medium width my feel DO tend toward the slimmer side, esp. in the area around the arch/midfoot, and I have what are called "low volume feet", which means that they are not fieshy on top (instep) or anywhere else, so the slim model is the PERFECT shoe last for me. I just needed a shoe for walking 5 miles a day on different surfaces, one that would hug my slimmer low volume foot, yet provide a lot of toebox room for a developing Morton's Neuroma that I got from wearing another (very high end) brand. For those who think Altra is making their toeboxes narrower, please unstand that not all of us have wide feet throughout our entire foot, and some of us have low volume feet, narrower feet, and narrower heels and we really do not NEED nor can we use shoes that are "wide throughout". These are perfect for me, as was the Altra Rivera, also cut on the slim last......but both shoes have plenty of toe box room (next to many other shoes it's real obvious). Right by my arch on both sides, my midfoot is quite slim and I would always get "bagging/looseness" which means no support in many other shoes. For instance, even in a Birkenstock, I take the "narrow/foot filled in" size. Please see my review on the black pair.....for whatever reason, compared to the other colors, this one was about 1/16th" to 1/8" shorter on me than every other color, so I had to send them back. I kept the brown/green colorway because it simply fit me the best! Note: if you have feet similar to mine, I would caution you against the "original footbed" as in the Altra Lone Peak.....they were wrinkling both horizontally and vertically on my foot, they are GREAT for people with wider feet throughout. I try to make my reviews as useful as possible to people with my type of feet.

This is the narrowest Altra I’ve worn, which is great for my relatively narrow feet. Definitely runs very small; I have always been a 7.5 but sized up to an 8 based on other reviews. They are snug, and I probably could have gotten away with an 8.5. Very comfortable and supportive.

I really enjoyed trying these shoes our on both road and trail. The crossover design is what attracted me to try this shoe, especially since I don't run real technical trials and get tired of switching between road shoes and trail. They ride well. I was bummed though when I was experiencing issues of soreness on the sides of my feet and it's simply because they are too slim for my feet. I didn't really feel it while running but certainly did after and ended up returning them. I'm hopeful Altra creates more crossover shoes in all width sizes. These are really great otherwise and I would completely recommend them.
