I do trail running in Costa Rica and these shoes have the comfort and grip I was looking for but they run a little big (I'm 8.5 but these feels like 9) for that reason my feet slides to the front and sides when going down the hills. I wish I could get a pair of Altra insoles! I can't return them as I don't live in the US, so I went ahead and tried them and that's when I realized they were too big :(

I have several pairs of these so size and feel were established as very good. HOWEVER I would prefer lighter colors. Not so glaringly bright. It's not like I might need to be rescued if lost in the woods. I have one pair (in a shade of blue) that fulfills that wish.

These are the only shoes I can hike long distances in that don’t leave my feet sore. I love the zero drop and wish Altra carried more than one women’s trail shoe in 12W. They run smallish length-wise as I wear 11W in other shoes. I love the wide toe box but they are a “sloppy” shoe that provides little support. I’m cautious on rocky trails as my foot can slide sideways off the foot bed pretty easily and there’s no ankle support. The tread wears down too quickly. I have 4 pair now, each with 150-200 miles. After that there’s little traction. I put an arch/metatarsal orthotic in them for support covered with a thin orthopedic foam sheet for a bit of cushion (old feet). So while the zero drop and wide toe box are awesome, these shoes need improvement to make them great. There are no other wide zero drop options on the market right now but I keep checking.

Somewhat odd. Went to change insert out and found a thorn through the sole (yikes, not good!!) and tape holding down string maybe that is normal manufacturing process, however the sole quality is concerning. Hopefully next LP's we'll see more durable soles! Otherwise love this version.

I have worn the Lone Peaks for four seasons now, and each year has been a beautiful transition into the next season. I am not sure what Altra has done different with the 5's, but my feet hurt when I wear them. I realized this upon first run with them and chose to ease them into my running schedule by starting with once a week shorter runs and slowly build up distance on this pair, just as I had with my first pair of Altras. I am stumped as to what it is exactly that is off for me with these shoes. It is not a complaint I have with my 4.5's, which I have scoured to source another pair for this year's race season, as the 5's are unwearable for me. I am heart broken, as I am an Altra purist. The only thing that feels obvious, is the toe box feels slightly wider, and perhaps the arch placement feels off. Just wondering if any of you other Lone Peak wearers noticed a difference with the 5's?

I really liked the look of these shoes; unfortunately, I had to return them. I ordered a 8.5 W because I normally wear New Balance 8.5 EE.

Been running in all the versions and generally love the products - King MT and Olympus due to Vibram. Here in East Coast trails with root, rock and wet those soles just perform better. Make a LP with Vibrams please!

Great shoe for my type of foot EXCEPT too long tongue cut into my ankle. I am 5'8", 120 lbs and have notably slender ankles so the design has to be pretty bad for this to happen. Hope Altra makes some changes..

Loved the Lone Peak 4.5. On the Lone Peak 5, the toe box isn't as wide and it's a bit shorter. The next size up is too big! Switching to the Superior.

I sent this shoe back be ause it was huge and wrinkled at the top of my fot because of that.
Also the outside was a great color, however it felt plastic.
Havent re eived my redund yet, so I can't order a replacement yet.

Heel width was too wide and arch seemed nominal at best. Other sites have mentioned the wide heel issue, too. Walking down steeper hills caused my foot to slide all the way forward, smashing my toes. I added a thin 1/4” full length insert to try to make the fit tighter, but this really wasn’t an ideal solution. I would NOT recommend these shoes unless you walk/run on relatively flat trails.

They feel half size smaller than my other size 8 shoes. They are not as comfyasI would of hoped. Must be the small issue.

This review is just to compare the normal and wide version. I wanted a wide toe box and the normal is ever slightly too narrow near the ball of my foot. So I tested the wide version - well, it uses the SAME exact insole (part # written on the bottom of them are identical). So the "wide" version is more for a bigger foot (vertical-wise) than width wise. Wish they actually have wider ones. :(

I was so hoping that the new Lone Peak wide would bring me back to Altra, but was disappointed. These shoes were barely wide enough in the toe box, and the mid foot was too narrow. The side of my foot was actually hanging over the edge of the shoe base. Other than size, I like the quality of the build and the grip was great. They felt like they would last a lot longer than Altras normally do. Unfortunately I can't wear them.

Sending them back. Ordered my usual size (8.5) and they are absurdly short. I don't recall EVER wearing a size 9.

I love the Lone Peak 4.5 so much that I bought these. They are not quite the same, they feel narrower in the toe box and a little stiffer. I still think these are a good shoe , I just loved the 4.5's
Perhaps they need breaking in.

Shoes were purchased for my wife who finally agreed to run trails and is new to Altra. She states the LP5 has provided good impact protection and decent stability/support on some very technical, rocky sections but on a couple of occasions felt the heel portions weren't snug enough and allowed for slippage to the inside and outside of heels. This despite the shoe lace loops to avoid slippage from the rear.

I have been wearing Lone Peaks since version 2.5 and have seen many changes over the years. I wear them for hiking, not running. My last pair, the 4.5's, had a heel issue...the back of the heel was significantly higher and caused hot spots on the Achilles area of my heel. I only have about 150 miles on those and now the heel padding has torn, which makes them even more uncomfortable. This made me very sad. I was excited for the 5's to come out, hoping that the heel issue had been fixed. But unfortunately my heels are still getting significant hot spots, even with thicker socks. I am planning to do a thru hike this summer and these just will not work for me. I thought for sure the heel issue would have been fixed, since multiple people complained about it! But no such luck! I'm going to have to find a different shoe now! It is very unfortunate because I love everything else about the shoe! Please fix the heel Altra! I want to have happy feet again! I would recommend to a friend if they pay close attention to the comfort in the heel...every foot is different!

I bought these becuase I wanted that extra room in the toe box, but there is too much room! they are like clown shoes with a bubble at the front. Other than that, they are super comfortable and have a nice grip.

I have always ordered at least a half size up for Altras but these run really big, so order your usual size. In addition, these shoes run very wide across the forefoot and there is way too much movement because of this. I feel like Altra needs to offer a narrow version of this or check to see if they are really designed for a women's foot. I do love the wider toe box with Altras but these are just way too wide.

I use Altra Lone Peak 3, Lone Peak 3.5 and now alone Peak 5 for trail runs, street runs, hikes.
The quality is definitely worse in my 5s. I used all others for 400-500 Mike's before my feet started to hurt. These 5s have started to cause my feet to hurt and I've only had them 150-175 miles!!

I just wore a brand new pair of Lone Peak 5's on a one week, 37 mile backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon and the lugs have ripped and in some places are completely worn down. The shoes need to be replaced. This is my 3rd pair of Lone Peaks and the other 2 pairs lasted about 500-600 miles of hiking on similarly rough trails in AZ. I'm hoping I just got a defective pair and that the company hasn't changed the materials used on the soles because I was planning to wear these on my through hike on the AT next year but am now looking into other shoes. I love the fit and the attachments for gaiters, how light they are but the durability leaves much to be desired.

I so miss the 3s! These are less structured, much more slippery, and they rubbed my two big toes wrong. They're also not as cushiony as the old models. By the end of my 50k I could feel everything on the ground. Please consider going back to the old designs.
