The snow cuffs in my previous pair fell out on my last ski trip. Estimated days over 5 years is about 30 ski days. I ordered another pair, as they fit well and keep me dry and warm. The boot cuffs on the new pair have been improved substantially. Arc'teryx has only one pocket for the pants. There used to be a small pocket at the right top that carried a credit card, cash and ID that is no longer in the new design. I might add that I ONLY wear Arc'teryx casual clothing and exercise wear. They are comfortable, suitable for all seasons and fit perfect.

Everything you need (dry, rugged, intuitive adjustment, lightweight, packable), and nothing that you don't (apparently pockets). They pack down tiny, so I always have them with me. They have a great fit, and are really tough. They've stood up to more scraping on rocks than could be expected. If only there were pockets.

I have been a ski instructor since I retired 15 years ago and have used these pants most of those years. Spring time with light baselayer or -30c winter with proper baselayer, these pants were always perfect for the job.

I wanted to get pants that I could use for multiple snow-based activities, and the Beta AR absolutely delivers! These pants are perfect for skiing as well as higher altitude mountain climbing and trekking. I love that they have straps - it's really nice to not have to worry about my pants moving around when I am skiing. Some pants I have worn from other brands I have had to wear a belt to prevent sagging, so having these straps was a huge plus! One less thing I have to worry about! I love that they are waterproof and windproof. They are perfect for all of the elements, which you definitely encounter in the mountains! These pants fit true to size. Make sure to try them on with base layers so you get a perfect fit for when you are out in the elements. I am 5'3 and 100 pounds, and fit into an XS.

I like this pant because I can wear it over a couple pairs of long underwear or even overly climbing pants in a pinch (note: I am 5.7 and have a medium, so if you like a trimmer fit, go for a smaller size) It offers enough room to move fully so when I'm ice climbing it doesn't hinder me in a squat or a stem which is hard to achieve in a Gore-tex shell. It certainly is waterproof and has all the features (cuff guard, side zips, thigh pocket) that make it a reliable technical winter pant. I personally like the fit. Its trim but roomy enough.

I bought these for winter use. Having long legs I found the tall option give me a great fit compared to other brands. They are well made and keep me dry whilst working in the mountains whatever the weather. A great pair of pants!

Not only does this keep you dry and warmer during the cold winter season it's full length side zippers make it easy to put on and take off while wearing pants and shoes/ski-boots. While wearing pants underneath the Beta AR didn't feel like it was restricting my leg movements at al and only after a few minutes it felt like I was only wearing one layer of pants. I also love the added protection down on the lower cuffs making it more durable.

I purchased AR pant size S originally, then found it's too long for me, I'm 5'4", 120lbs, so I purchased SS, the new SS is perfect for me, great quality and very fast delivery speed, I should strongly praise Arcrytex's return process, received money back really fast!

I just bought these in small (I'm 5'7", ~125 pounds on good days) and wanted to leave a review re: sizing. They fit great for someone of my height but I can see how the inseam would be too long for most people under 5'6" (unless you have very long legs compared to your torso of course). They otherwise seem very durable and of good quality!

Light, durable, one badass pocket on the thigh, thigh vents open to access pockets on inside layer. Perfect fit, room for an insulated layer underneath but not baggy. Nice adjustable belt built in.

I have had these pants for three seasons now and they have held up amazingly well. They look as good as the day they were purchased. They are the perfect shell. It is easy to control my temp with the right layers. I've worn them in -15 deg F (not including windchill) and on days all the way up to a near 40 deg and have stayed comfortable. They offer excellent freedom of movement while still protecting as expected. They did sustain a tear at boot level when another person on a lift went down and caught the edge of their board against them. I was devastated. I reached out to Arc'teryx and they backed their product with options to fix or replace that were all reasonable. I could not be happier with how well I was treated. While I was hesitant at first to purchase, given the price, they have been well worth it and I look forward to having them for many more seasons to come.

I've had these pants for close to 10 years. They are bulletproof. I use them hiking, ski touring, and on the resort. Nothing to complain about with them. Highly recommend.

I got the Beta AR pants as a companion to a Beta AR jacket I've had for 10 years. The jacket is the only hard shell I own, something I depend on all year, for everything from hiking trips, to running errands, to downhill skiing. The Beta AR jacket does it all. I've used the Beta AR pants for one full ski season now, and I can say without hesitation that the pants have the same winning formula that make the jacket such a perfect all-rounder. The fit is what you would expect from Arc'teryx: roomy where it needs to be, but not too much. I can comfortably lift my kees up to my waist without feeling restricted. More importantly, the Beta AR comes in lengths. This is rare for outerwear, and absolutely critical for the vertically challenged. I'm 5'8", 165lbs, 32"-33"waist, and the Medium Short fits me perfectly, with plenty of room left for layering. The internal gaiters are made from a very burly, tent floor-like nylon, with huge Velcro strips. The gaiters fit appropriately snug over the large buckles of my Atomic boots, and yet somehow aren't overly loose against my legs in warmer weather, when I'm in hiking boots. I own a pair of The North Face soft-shell pants, made for ice climbing. My biggest pet peeve about them is the tiny instep patches. I've had to patch the soft-shell a number of times due to cuts from ski edges, god knows how they'd ever handle a crampon. The Beta AR pants have wide instep patches that go almost to my calfs; the Keprotec material feels like it could stop a sharp knife without much effort.

These pants are perfect. I have a very versatile outdoor lifestyle that previously required that I have several pairs of snow pants but these pants do it all. I use them for back country skiing, and snow camping, daily work outside, and daily dog walking and hiking. They are technical enough and roomy enough for backcountry. I was comfy in -40 high wind this winter. They are attractive enough that I feel awesome walking my dog in a public dog park, and look good when I have to run into the grocery store on the way home. I don't know how it's possible but they fit trim enough to look nice but roomy enough to fit base layers for the extreme cold. The breathability is unbelievable. We have transitioned into spring now with cold nights and warm afternoons; the snow is the worst. I have never been so comfortable. The full side zips allow me to slip them on over boots. The bottoms cinch in so they look good when you don't have ski boots on. There's not alot of pockets but I like that since that makes them better at keeping me dry. Since I started buying Arcteryx I need less gear because each piece is so versatile. I would have saved a ton of money if I had started with this brand. I am 5'3", 145 pounds and I order M short. Perfect fit.

Last Friday I was riding my racebike through very heavy rain, wearing my Beta AR jacket and pants. Out of nowhere there was a fallen tree laying accross the road about 1 meter from the ground. I didn't stand a chance, I tried to duck underneath it. I hit the tree very hard with my head and shoulder. Next thing I know is that I'm lying on the gravel road on the other side of the tree. The saddle of my bike was broken, I had torn a tendon in my ankle and shoulder. But the jacket and pants didn't even have a scratch! I was really amazed by it. It was a rough tree and a rough gravel road. But apart of some mud there was no evidence on them that I had crashed. Really amazing how tough the fabric is!

This is the best hardshell pants ever! Used it multiple occasion, skiing, hiking, trekking and mountaineering. Completely windproof and waterproof. The added powdered cuff is great at keeping everything out of the boots. Great freedom of movement and durability.

Purchased my Beta AR pants few years ago and use it for skiing and snowshoeing and hiking. Best pants I have ever bought, very durable and keeping me dry in wet conditions. I love it. I would highly recommend it.

Must have for cold winters. I had them for a year and 100% protection in wet, wind and cold temp as outer layer. I used them for extreme cold running and works great. Fabric feels and looks great. Price is high, but the quality seems like it will last a long time.

I bought these pants for my wife for Christmas last year. She has found them to be excellent! The fit is what she loves the most. She has found no other shell pant to be this comfortable. They are just loose enough for effective layering, but not so baggy that she catches her crampons. She is 5'6" tall, weighs 130 pounds and the small size is perfect. The feature-full pant has everything she needs. Her favourite feature is the waterproof full zip legs. The ability to change layers without removing boots or crampons is essential. With these pants, it's easy. The durability of these pants has been put to the test and have passed with flying colours. After a year of abuse, the pants are still going strong! Overall, these have been one of the best purchases I could have made for her. The Beta AR pants have quickly become her favourite piece of kit!

Used these pants for the first time on a skiing holiday. Love the design, the look and the 3/4 length zippers which make it very easy to wear it over ski boots. Did not feel restricted during skiing at all. It feels really durable as well. However, when walking I noticed that the crotch part is somewhat under tension with every step I took. This made me wonder about the durability of that specific part of the pants. When walking up a hill this became slightly more obvious, as I somewhat felt limited in movement. Have not used it for a proper hike trip yet, but intend to do so in the future. Hopefully it will be durable enough to deal with this.

I love these pants!!!!!! I am on my second pair after 10 years with the last pair. (I ski upward of 75 days a year.) The full zips are critical for air while backcountry skiing/climbing and as I have to wear double knee braces the braces are easy to put on before and remove after skiing each day. I hope you NEVER stop making these pants!!!!!!

I love these pants. I use them for non technical hikes in the Canadian Arctic. They definitely live up to their waterproof claims and fit really well aside from the long leg length. They are great wind pants and I have found that I am comfortable wearing them with an insulating layer up to -40. They are also very durable. I echo other comments about providing options for those of us with short legs. I am 5 feet and 5 inches tall and have very short legs. I am constantly tucking these up to avoid dragging them on the ground. It is difficult for us short people to find good quality gear that fits...

When something is called Beta AR, you can usually trust it will be a great buy that will do almost anything. This holds true with the Beta AR Pant. I've spent a lot of time in these pants as a windbreaker, a rain pant, full hardshell, even a hiking pant in a pinch in changing conditions. They articulate well, the N40r-X breathes well, the N80p-X is very robust, the side zippers let you use them in rather warm and humid climates. They become invisible as you wear them, adjusting to your needs. The three quarter length side zip means you can put them on quickly without taking off boots, this is a key component for a good hiking or backpacking shell. When the conditions change, you have to do so as well, and quickly. My favorite feature is probably the lace hooks on the gaiter. They are a quick, low-effort. but very effective way to keep the pants in place without having to use the grommets. When the snow is deep, of course you pass a loop under the boot too. My main gripe is the lack of pockets. I know it's meant to be minimalist piece, but just one small pocket is a bit poor. I was tempted to pull a star for this, but frankly they are just so good in every other way that I couldn't. If you are on your knees in puddles, your knees will get damp. I don't think that's the intended usage for these pants, so I don't blame them. It's a lot of pressure for the membrane to deal with. Just be aware.

When you need one pair of pants that do it all in the mountains, get these. The AR's have gone, mountaineering, skiing, snowshoeing with me. I carry them in my pack on other days in the mountains when there is a concern about weather. They are tough and a great cut. They fit ski and mountaineering boots but are trim enough not get in the way.
