I owned these pants for more than a year before I finally had the opportunity to use them. But, once that opportunity came, I was thrilled to have them. I did a couple days of hiking at Mt Mitchell, NC in January, and what was supposed to be days filled with sunshine soon turned into nothing but snow and freezing rain. These pants kept me comfortable the entire time, they blocked the wind but never caused me to overheat, and the built in powder cuffs kept my ankles completely dry (even when trodding though melting snow). In the past, I have found waterproof pants to be cumbersome and a necessary evil: often a choice between severely impeded movement and soaking legs. But not these; they are just as comfortable than my regular hiking pants. I can't recommend them enough to anyone looking for a perfect four-season waterproof pant. I am 6'3", 210lbs and found the MT to be a perfect fit.

I am 6.1 32 inseem 215 pounds and i have a pair of XL regular. they are a bit baggy and a tad long. I ordered one size too big perhaps. Overall the fit is good. I didn't want to go with the large and not have enough room. I'd say the fit is comfortable for me. With that being said. These are just like the bibs without the extra material. I honestly wear the bibs more. I like the extra material. Like the bibs these have gaiters but lack the almost full length zipper. The vent on these is good enough. does the job. They have pockets as well where the bibs do not. Overall a great product and a nice alternative to the full bib. dry and warm as always. Enjoy! These pants are really a good fit. I've got an L tall and it fits like a 33widht 36length jeans. Not too tight and plenty of features. Only downside is the small pocket. would love to have 2 or a big leg pocket.

Love these pants. 5"9" and bought the Large/Short. Fit is ideal, not too baggy, with room for layering (Rho AR bottoms, usually). One pocket is fine. I haven't had a chance to test in all 4 seasons yet, but I plan to use them in warm wet weather too. My only improvement would be to have detachable suspenders. I bought some to use with these pants, but I wish Arc had some available.

At last a pair of over-trousers that really work and can take a bashing! I love the internal snow-gaitors in any sort of snow conditions, the full zips are long enough to assist putting on and off and as they stop just short of my hip belt so they don't irritate at all. Wow! the fly zip is long enough!! The only drawback is the zipped pockets are a little small to use with liner gloves and no chance with a more substantial glove.

Just took these on the Appalachian Trail in heavy rain and through tough brush. Water rolled off, never felt the brambles, and pants remained light with zero water absorption. Fits like it was made for me yet plenty of room for an under layer. Can confirm they're tough as nails and mud/water just stays away. Be warned however that they are the loudest pants I've ever worn, you won't wear these for casual activities. Also, lest I forget, they look as stylish as I've seen for a pant with these superior specs, materials, and workmanship. Attention to detail is bar none in my opinion.

I ordered the Beta ar pant but to my surprise there were no suspenders included like on the women style pant?! This is a real disappointment for a pair of "action/do it all" kind of pant for that amount of money The strangest thing of all is that there are 3 built-in attachment points for the suspenders in the pants, but it's not even possible to buy the suspenders separately on your website? I can't see any reason for this other than that Arc'teryx has taken the opportunity to save some money by not including the suspenders for the men's model? Another thing that has me scratching my head is that the hook to anchor the pant in the shoelaces has been removed for the new model as well? But other than that, the pant is really versatile and a good match with my Alpha Sv jacket. //O

No true issues - they are hard wearing, comfortable, and practically designed trousers. An absolute cornerstone of my winter and summer mountaineering. Lost one star as the undergaiters/snowshields that attach at the bottom (may be an old model!) are quite flimsy compared to the rest, so you have to be a bit dainty putting them on sometimes. Not a dealbreaker and I'd buy again, but a bit of a mis-step considering the rest of the pant being 10/10

As a backpacker, winter hiker, snowshoer and backcountry split boarder, my first impression of the Beta AR pants was mixed. Obviously high quality with a nice built-in waist belt, but the ankle cuff consisting of a zippered gauntlet and adjustable internal gaiter/snow skirt seemed busy. Too much added weight/bulk. More features that could potentially malfunction. So far I've tried wearing the pants with several different pairs of boots: low-cut leather hikers, high-cut insulated hikers, snowboard boots and heavy-duty mountaineering boots. The gauntlet, as it turns out, slides perfectly over the tops of my snowboard boots. Thus, when packing my split board up to the alpine in my high-cut hikers, I can zip close the gauntlet and cinch shut the snow skirt when crossing through shallow, or even moderately deep, patches of snow without worries. Of course, the gauntlet and snow-skirt are fairly useless when combined with low-cut hikers during summer. The snow skirt, I imagine, will constantly ride up the boots and eventually bunch up at the tops, so it would probably be best to leave them loose. Paired with anything less than high-cut hiking boots, the Beta AR pants' adjustable gauntlet and built-in snow skirt are useless. In terms of weight, the Beta AR's are heavier than most hiking-specific Gore-Tex rain pants, approximately 100 to 200 grams heavier, but far more versatile. They can be worn for extended periods of time, used year round and were, in fact, designed for all-round (AR) use. Ultralight and weight-conscious backpackers, who will likely have no use for the gauntlet and snow-skirt, should keep this in mind before buying the Beta AR model.

I received these pants for Xmas and normally wear a medium size. I am 5'8", 175lbs and 33 inch waist. I found the medium was tight and certainly no room for any insulation layer. The pants are thin and requires an underlay for winter activities. I ordered the large and found they were much too big and baggy. The sizing goes from one extreme to the other. I ended up returning both pairs due to sizing. As for the quality they seem like top notch light Gore Tex shell pants.

I've used these pants a couple of times, but I didn't really appreciate them before getting stuck in a whiteout on Aasgard's Pass in Leavenworth, WA and having to make my way down 2000 ft of unstable dirt and rocks, as well as the solid inch of fresh snow covering it. I had used the Beta AR pants a couple of times before with less than stellar results: I am 5'6" and these pants are very restrictive of my upward leg motion, making climbing hills while snowshoeing or snow hiking way more difficult than it would be without them, but without them on all of these occasions my legs would have been drenched and freezing. Back to Aasgard's Pass, I didn't need them on the way up because it was very light snow, but right as we got to the top (after 4 hours of brutal uphill moving between the solid glacial snow and crumbling sand and dirt) it became a whiteout. I threw on the Beta pants, then my friend and I started making our way down. We were sliding over rough granite rocks which didn't even scratch the pants, we were glissading down hundreds of feet of snow fields and the built-in gaiters prevented the snow from going up my pant legs, and all of this was while it was dumping snow, and my legs pretty much didn't get wet (except for the upper part of the full-length zipper that I accidentally left open on the first glissade). In conclusion, these are some seriously burly pants, great for downhill and snow in general, but test them out by going up some stairs or something before you buy them to see if they restrict range of motion.

I bought this pants a few month ago, as my first arcteryx product, and I must say the product is nearly perfect for my use which is hiking, skiing and camplife. I am very happy about the specs and especially the way it breeds. This is my first clothing in GTX Pro, and I did not espect to stay completely dry from the inside without using the vent zips. The gaiters are very useful, and the built in belt is very handy. I`ve got two issues that brings down my joy with this pants, and is that it should be possible to zip off/on the gaiters as needed. It would be more suitable as a summerpant then. The other and most important thing with this pant(and many other products from arcteryx) is the sizing. I am 185cm.(6ft.1") tall, about 80kg.(176ib.) and a 33" waist. Large is waaay to big in the waist, the tighs and in length. The medium is almost perferct in lenght, but to snug in the waist. Arcteryx should have a sizing between M and L in almost every product.

I purchased these pants at SAIL two weeks ago and they are awesome. I worn it for snowshoeing and hiking. I even experienced light rain with it and they are really waterproof and windproof. Keep you warm and confortable with a good base layer underneath. You can feel they are well made and strong. Very compactable too. However, be carefull with the sizes. I was planning to order the pants online but finally went in store to try them due to the previous reviews mentionning issues regarding the sizes. I usually wear medium on Arc'teryx gear but after trying them, i bought a small, medium was way too big. I'm 5'11, 175lbs. Beside the size issue, they are bombproof pants.

"Small short" pants are a very good fit for me - 5ft 4in, 135 lb, 29in inside leg. Good product, but very expensive. Just abpout worth if for me, as it's almost impossible to buy an equivalent product #with a choice of leg length# from anyone else.

I have worn these from Glencoe to rock hopping around the North East Coast Line.Bought as an upgrade from the old Berghaus Paclite, and the difference is night and day,and you soon realise why the price is high as performance wise they are extremely tough yet surprisingly light and breath very well over a pair of 3 season pants in winter, they also seem to perform well in keeping the wind at bay.The only reason a 5* was not achieved was the overall fit, which is rather on the baggy side, even with a substantial pair of trousers under them. All in all do not think about purchasing these just buy them, like me you will not regret it and it soon becomes obvious why they are expensive.

I bought these pants to replace my Arc'teryx bibs that have worn out. I am 5'11" and 175lbs. Every pair of pants I own is a medium size and my waist is 33". These medium sized pants were too small at the waist and very tight in the mid section. Also the pocket config is bid weird. Just one pocket on the leg.

Fit: As a tall lanky man (6"2"- 175 lbs), Arc'teryx medium (regular fit) fits pretty darn well, just a little short, but since I'm mostly climb in these I don't mind. I now have a medium (tall fit) and it's almost too long, but I guess the longer pant will protect my footwear from pointy things a bit better than the regular fit, and as it's easier to patch the pant than boots, I suppose that's a positive. If you're used to the previous version of this pant, a few things you need to know before replacing them with these newer ones. Feel: the shell material on the newer ones feel more supple than the previous ones. Pocket: the pocket now has down-facing zipper cover and is now over the thigh and a bit lower instead of being higher up and closer to the hip -> this eliminates friction/wear on the pocket part of the pants if you have things (i.e., phone) in your pocket. But now if you have things in your pocket, the whole pocket tends to bobble a bit more against your leg when your moving fast. Side-zip: Previous version were excellent alpine pants and had a nice 3/4 zip so I could take them on and off with boots on. These new ones have two separate side-zips on each leg that don't connect (i.e., can't take them on and off with boots on). I just don't understand why Arc'teryx had to go and ruin a great alpine pant.

Height inclusivity is a topic that doesn't get talked about... I hate it when I'm forced to say "I'm too short so this item is not for me, I'm too short so this sport is not for me, Im too short so this career is not for me, blah blah I'm too short to exist in this world" when in reality the opportunities are just not quite there yet. Anyways onto the review, a whole lot of the pants are not petite friendly, the knees and the crotch are not positioned at the right spots and etc. When there is is a 'short' option there's almost always no stock...the shirts and jacket are like dresses for me so I end up rolling the sleeves or the bottom of the pants. For someone who sports femininity & performance together, it doesn't really show with any of my arc outfits. No sane person would try to get goretex pants or jackets tailored.

I so wanted to love these pants because I get cold in the winter and I also wanted a pant to accompany my Arc'teryx Alpha AR Jacket for winter snow backpacking. I am a slim backpacker who hikes in all kinds of conditions (5'5" 95#). Arc'teryx is one of the remaining brands that carried sizes small enough for me. I usually can wear the smallest size and have it be a little big. Unfortunately these xs pants are so big, when I tighten the waist as tight as possible, they fall off and both legs can easily fit in each pant leg with room to spare (I tried them on with double baselayer pants on). I wish the sizing were more consistent throughout Arc'teryx clothing. I don't care what size it says on my clothes, I just want to be able to find clothes that (somewhat) fit. Unfortunately, I have also contacted Arc'teryx and they are discontinuing many of their smallest sizes. Yes I would recommend these pants to someone ... just beware of sizing and do not get stuck on what size you should be. They are, like all Arc'teryx items, extremely well made.

I purchased the Beta AR Pant to complete a performer system capable of dealing with various conditions. A Large Short is almost the right fit, however, the GORE-TEX Pro material is unforgiving and can at times restrict movement. Given more room in the crotch area would significant improve comfort and allow a greater range of motion. I purchased a decent pair of suspenders and feel the system works better with slack in the belt.

I am 5"2, 115 lbs. I can usually get by with XS, but these are way to long, even with ski boots. It is really disappointing not to have the option of short, given these are high-end pants. At that price ( 550CAD) I expect a much better fit, especially that its not possible to get them tailored (with the side zip + warranty will not apply if item is modified I was told in store). Browsing through the comments I can see that this issue was raised already 2 years ago but unfortunately is not resolved.

Bought two weeks ago and tried them out during a week hiking in Wales and going caving. Couldn't believe I couldn't put them on without taking my boots off. I wouldn't have bought them for this reason alone and feel a bit silly for not reading the reviews in more detail before buying. Great when wearing but the designers must have either had a good reason for doing this or been asleep at the wheel. I wouldn't buy these again.

I purchased the previous design of beta ar pants because it had a 3/4 leg zipper. It was very convenient for hiking because you did not have to remove your foot wear to put on the pants or remove the pants. If the weather turned bad it was easy to put on your pants quickly and efficiently without taking your boots off. Unfortunately I had a warranty issue with my pants and I sent them in for repair and it was defective so arcteryks sent me the new model which fit really well. The only down side was that now the zipper does not unzip all the way making it hard to put the pants on in bad weather without removing foot wear. And same when weather gets better you have to stop sit down and remove footwear to take beta pants off. It would be nice to see a full zip again to make the versatility of the pants better.
