I have worn several styles of Altra for years because of the wide toe box, particularly over the top of my toes. The new Altras are definitely narrower and the laces do not go down as much, so you lose the ability to loosen across the tops of the toes where the bunions are. After trying and returning several styles, these seem to be the best, but definitely not as good as my older ones. I have seen a number of reviewers raise this complaint. I hope Altra gets the message!

I love Altra. I have been blessed with narrow heels and wide toes! I must not be the only person in the world hence the Brand Altra! It has saved my feet and my ability to run each day and my whole body not to ache from my toes being shoved in a straight and narrow toe box. So I currently own two pairs of Altra’s, The escalante and the Torin Plush. The escalante are great but I felt like I needed more cushion so I went for the Torin Plush. They have been nice shoes for the last six months except the laces are at least six inches too long. And I ordered a 9.5 in those and kept them even though I had a lot of room in the toe area. (Length and width) so when I went to order a new pair of Altra’s I ordered a size 8.5 thinking they would be perfect. They are at least a whole size too small. Plus the toe box seemed much more narrow. They did seem to fix the laces issue, but adjusting the sizing to this extreme caught me off guard. I should have ordered at least a 10. So I have returned and ordered a 10. Hoping they work and the toe box is wide enough. This is a really nice looking Altra.

These are my first Altras. I take an 7.5/8 w in most shoes, ordered 8 for these. length was great, roomy toe box. like others have noted, the lacing and mid-foot sections are snug, but I actually like this snugness because the shoes are also pretty springy and it feels like a stabilizer for me. While the soles are springy, I do not feel like my feet are sliding all over the place or like I am walking on a marshmallow, which is a common problem for me with other shoes. I am on day three of use and am taking extended walks at about 5k per outing. For me, these shoes will require a bit of a break-in period. I felt some tenderness in the outer bottom pads of my feet, and have some minor blisters in the back of my foot. Terrain-wise, these didn't grip any better than any other shoe on wet pavement, but in dry areas the grip was stronger for me than for other shoes. If you don't have experience with a zero-drop shoe you may want to ease your way in, and prepare for some extra tension in your calves at first. For me, this goes away after a brief break-in period and my walks and jogs are smoother. I have back and knee arthritis and thus far, these shoes have not caused any pain. Cautiously optimistic!

The shoe is light weight and quite comfortable. I have narrow feet, and they fit fine.

I decided to try the Altra Viho after finding that the Altra Solstice XT, although attractive, lacked sufficient padding for me and rubbed my ankle bones. I immediately noticed, as others have mentioned, that the Viho’s toe box is narrower than the Solstice’s toe box. Maybe it will work for those who are not addicted to a wide toe box or who do not have duck feet. But for me, the wide toe box is the reason for buying Altras. The Viho is an attractive shoe, and I love the teal color (although there was some loose stitching on one of the shoes).

The fit and size is perfect, first shoe I've put on in a while that makes me feel like running. Feel light and toe roomy. Jury is still out though as I have a bad lower back, have only run 11 miles in them, and have to see how my back takes to them. Over all though I think it's a great shoe with the right idea.

I was concerned because reviews suggested the toe box was narrower than Altra’s earlier shoe models, but I am thrilled to report that these fit me perfectly. I have a wide forefoot and a narrow heel and it’s so difficult find shoes, not just running shoes. I ruptured an Achilles tendon 6 years ago and the recovery has been rough. These shoes have allowed me to run again. I ordered 9-1/2. My foot measures 8-1/2 but I usually wear a full size up in running shoes. I’m so pleased with these. I’m trying to resist ordering another pair in fear that Altra will change design next year but I think I probably should...

I have long narrow feet and Altras are laughably the wrong shaped shoe for me. My big toe ended up in the center of the very large "foot shaped" toe box.

I bought these specifically for the wide toe box, which is a major part of this brand's marketing. I was disappointed to find that the toe box is narrower than even my New Balance Classics, and much narrower than the (discontinued) Merrell Pace Glove.

I have been running in the Esclante 1.5 for 3 years. The 2.0 version is stiff and no longer wide in the toe box, which is what Altra is known for. I have now tried just about every other model Altra offers and all of their new models are no longer wide in the toe box. So disappointed. I feel bad for using the free shipping and returns from Zappos given how many pairs I have now tried. I unfortunately will need to switch to a different brand. Brooks, here I come.

These are probably my 15th pair of Altras. They feel just right in so many ways! They are snug and supportive in all the right places while maintaining the sufficient toe box room you expect from them. Like most altras the arch support is modest but a bit more than a lot of their other models. Unfortunately it looks like they have done it to me again: made a shoe I really like then discontinue it!!

So happy that these were available in women's size 12. I need a wide toe box; these felt fine from the moment I put them on. I like that the laces are round, not flat. The laces are 44 inches long. If you lace up using the "runner's loop"/"heel lock" method (which uses ALL the eyelets), the laces might be a little too short. I could manage, but just barely. Except for that, I'd say these shoes are perfect.

Comfort is everything to me and these shoes fit perfectly right out of the box. Altra’s do run a little short in the length for me...so I’ve always had to size up. I’m used to ordering up so the fit is almost always perfect.

I ordered these shoes to get a slightly wider toe box without increasing heel width. these shoes fit the bill perfectly! Glad to have found them. My orthodics fit comfortably inside when the pad is removed. Looking forward to wearing them for many run/walks!

Fit and size of this shoe was good. I always order size 11 in athletic shoes, these were just right. Wanted more cushioning though. Was looking for a great fitting (Altra) shoe for walking. This is a great fitting training shoe, just not enough cushion for long walks. Had to return. Love the Altra fit though.

I bought 3 of the Viho total when I saw they were not available through Altra anymore because I have to have these. This is the first shoe that makes me want to run just so I can wear the shoes. I've been in Altras since 2014 and this one is my favorite. I'm hoping the Viho sticks around. I work at a running store so I can get deals on shoes, but we didn't carry this one...so I chose to pay full price for these rather than get a different shoe. Couldn't recommend these enough!

I am a die-hard Escalante Racer fan, but when the Viho went on sale on Black Friday, I thought I would give them a try. I put them on and tried them out on my treadmill, and I only lasted a quarter-mile because they made the bones in my feet hurt. For the record, I can't wear the Torin either, as they make my ankles hurt because of the high cushion. My daughter luckily wears the same size as me, and she tried them on and declared them the most comfortable shoe she has ever worn. The shoe is made well, and for the right foot (one that is not as picky as mine), it is perfect.

...this is it. I'm hooked. I will forever be a Viho runner. Altra, THANK YOU PROFUSELY for making this shoe. And I pray it doesn't change unless it's even more comfortable! This shoe, and three weeks of chiropractic adjustments to rotate my hips back to their proper place, has secured me with the ability to increase my mileage and be comfortable after every run with no pain. I cannot even explain to you what that means to me. A few months ago I wasn't sure if I'd have to hang up my running hat earlier than I wanted or just slow down to decrease impact. But my chiropractor suggested zero drop and I'm now running more than 6 miles at a 8:40 pace. Huge goal accomplished! 37 year old mama in the best shape of her life! Caveat: the Escalante was NOT for my foot. To each their own! I have a fairly narrow yet normal foot. Normal to slightly high arch. Size 7, yet always order a half size up for running shoes. I'm officially a ZERO DROP CONVERT.

These were recommended to me by my elite running knees. They were on sale with free shipping, so I bought them. I am a jogger. I am on the treadmill five days a week with not a lot of mileage. Even so, the shoes feel so comfortable on my feet I feel I am able to go farther and faster. I normally wear an eight or 8 1/2 in a dress shoe. I wear a nine and a running shoe. It fits perfectly the width and the cushioning Is fabulous
