Proud owner of Hoka shoes, with high expectations from this one. Mistake. As with many Gore-tex shoes, these are extremely tight, in addition to being designed differently than most Hokas I own or tried. Toebox is almost non-existent, the shoe is unpleasantly narrow and feels extremely uncomfortable. Goging half or even full size up, won't change a thing. The first challenge was inserting the foot into this shoe. As with most waterproof shoes, the tongue is sewed in, which makes it very difficult to put them on, especially if you have thicker, masculine mid-foot. Once the foot is in, it feels choked and wishes it never went in to begin with. Walking in these shoes is not for the faint of heart. Running would probably be a project worth some horror movies. Sorry Hoka fans, but will have to pass on this one as pretty much useless, unless you want to keep them on a living room shelf for bragging rights or you have a really slim foot. And I'm certainly not talking Kardashian kind of slim. They look sort of pretty though (especially that salsa/samba looking color), but there are quite a few pretty Hokas out there for you to chose from, that you can actually wear and feel awesomely comfy.

I recently was suggested to buy Hoka by my podiatrist! Miracle shoe! I have spent lots of money on other brands. No bueno! This shoe lets me walk for hours and still be able to walk the next day. Worth every penny. I bought these for a NY trip and it was rainy so I wore these. I have another pair that are not water proof for good weather.

These shoes helped me recover from reconstructive foot surgery and return to an active lifestyle. I've worn them for everything from weight training to running and wet, muddy forest hiking. I walked through standing water and my feet stayed completely dry. I cannot recommend these shoes enough.

My husband has a really hard time finding shoes that fit and are comfortable. He absolutely loves these shoes. He was wearing Keen boots for work but these are far better for his feet and posture. I highly recommend them. Water resistant and light weight, they don't collect a lot of dirt on the sole, either.

I got these to run snowy trails in WI during the winter especially when the trails are sloppy and slushy. I already run in the Speedgoat 4's and the Speedgoat Evo so I was hopeful these would perform in a similar fashion but with the added protection of Gore-tex. I've been running in these for the past month and I'm pleased to share that they've performed exactly as hoped for. I've run in snowstorms, and through both powder and wet slushy snow and these shoes have kept my feet warm and dry while not overheating or ever feeling sweaty. I do wear gaiters to keep the snow from coming in the sides to get my socks wet, but together with the Gore-tex, they've kept my feet warm and dry. They were fine to run in right out of the box but have definitely broken in after a few weeks and no longer feel like a "new" shoe but comfortably broken in. The grip has been great so far in all conditions. The cushioning is fantastic, just like my regular speedgoat 4's. I would highly recommend them for anyone looking for a highly cushioned shoe with great grip in wet conditions.

Hoka One One is an acquired taste as serious runners know. Once you get used to the Speedgoat 4 GTX, they are very comfortable. I even find them to have a slightly better support than the Speedgoat 3 GTX.

Brooks, Asics and La Sportiva are three brands I also recommend.

I bought these for running during winter weather here in Chicago, since not everyone shovels or plows after a snow storm. I broke them in by running 9 miles the morning after Mother Nature dumped about 4" of snow, and I was able to navigate the snow, slush and frozen puddles with ease and confidence. I did land in a few puddles but my feet stayed dry throughout the run. I dig the grip of the lugs on the icy sidewalks too.

Love most everything about it after a couple months of running in the rain and mud. Pros Great traction Great cushion.. the reason we buy Hoka's! Stability Great water proofing.. I've bought a lot of gortex runners and these are better than any of them. Cons No wide width available The tongue is very firm and my biggest complaint. If you run with ankle socks that don't cover where the tongue touches the front of your ankle you will get a wound there. Seems like an easy fix for Hoka.

These are a great pair of shoes! I have always loved my Bondis for running and various models of Hoka hiking boots for backpacking, but a tendon problem now makes it impossible to wear over the ankle shoes without excruciating pain. I decided to join the AT thru-hiker trend and move to trail runners for my backpacking. I put these shoes through hell this summer by hiking the 240 miles of the AT in PA... known for it's relentless rocks. The shoes certainly took a beating but they still work great! See pictures after 325 miles of Appalachian Trail abuse in VT, NJ, & PA. The cushioning is excellent to absorb the sharp rocks under my feet, and the wide sole gave me the stability I desired. The lugs on the bottom are noisy (sounds like I'm wearing cleats) but boy to they grip in wet weather and on rocks! I was really glad that I bought the gore-tex model because combining these shoes with water-shedding scree gaitors my feet stay dry in wet weather; but my feet don't sweat profusely like they had in boots, so I can bang out 25+ miles a day without hotspots on my toes. Opportunities for improvement: I don't care for the tongue... a soft fabric would be better, this one annoys the tendons at the front of my ankle just a tad. The concave cup in the middle of heel on the sole allows sharp rocks to jab right into the bottom of my heel and can be painful... need a plate in between the cushioning and the footbed (I solved this with a pair of Superfeet inserts with a plastic cup but that just adds more heel-to-toe-drop). Overall really, REALLY nice shoes!

the tongue of the shoe is firm and can dig into your distal shin. I had a nice abrasion after a 11 mile run the the Speedgoat 4's. I will have to wear higher socks for my next run. Other than that... great shoes!

Purchased this after taking the online questionnaire. This was rated as best for my needs. In truth, it is probably just the opposite. I have had an ankle replacement and have high arches with worn knees. This shoe tends to push my knee out and cause joint pain. It may be a good shoe but not for me.

I purchased these shows because my knees and feet are getting old, and I need more padding and stiffness on rough trails. So far, the Hoka One One Speedgoat 4 Gore-Tex seems to do very well in this regard. However, the lacing system seems to take some practice in order to hold my feet propperly in place without cutting off blood circulation. That is, the lace does not slip in the lacing eyes to even out the pressure along the shoe like I am used to with my Salomon trail runners. Also, adjusting the tightness is not nearly as quick as with the Salomon's, so I tend not not make these adjustments as my feet swell as the day progressed and I get increasingly fatigued (not good). The pressure created along the edge of the tonge also becomes a problem as the day wears on. But I have not given up on my Speedgoat 4's yet, and I am giving the Hoke One One lacing system the benefit of the doubt for now. I wish Hoka One One would have a webpage discussing to to best lace their particular shoes. I cannot recommend these shoes to a friend until I figure out how to make the lacing system work for me.

I own several pair of Hoka's and always buy 11 1/2 so that's what I order for the Speedgoat's. They were too small so I sent them back and ordered a size 12. The 12's fit much better but I felt like I was rocking back too far on the heel with each step. Looking at the heel of these shoes they don't appear to have less of a heel than my other Hoka's so it's got to be something on the inside of the shoe. Sending these back.

First, I am the biggest HOKA fan around and my road racing shoes will always be HOKA. But I found the Speedgoat to be way to heavy and clunky for me. Would it be possible to return them for store credit or a pair of your road racing shoes?

These are a joy to run, hike or walk in. That said, I have been using them shoe for two seasons and, as a mild pronator, the knobs at the back of the sole were pretty well worn off after about 100mi of mostly pavement running (I use the Salomon Speedcross 5 for pure trail running). The rest of the sole is still in pretty good shape and the rear is thick enough that the shoe is still usable and the rest of the shoe looks like new. However, I worry about heel slipping on snow (hasn't happened yet) so I purchased a new pair for when that happens. Another issue is that with the flat sole design, you can't wear gaiters unless they have like Kevlar straps over the sole as regular straps will wear through with one good outing as they are always against the walking surface rather than protected up against the sole in all my other similar shoes. Fortunately, when there is snow on the road, the Salomon trail shoes above work well with gaiters. I normally wear an 8.5M USA but in these I needed a size 9 - the width is roomy but not an issue. I still have not found a better waterproof heavy duty winter pavement running shoe so will continue with this.

These GTX are waterproof but not overly warm in upstate NY. They have been 100% good for me (shinsplints and plantar fasciitis). I do more walking than running but they have been excellent for hiking in river gorges and parks with my dog. They are also totally fine for walking on streets/sidewalks too with no wear and tear after one month.

I bought these with the Army's Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) in mind. They not only performed well for me during the Sprint, Drag, and Carry event, but also during the 2 mile run. Im sure trail running will be a breeze with these. I just hope they become a bit more affordable by the time I have to get a new pair.

If I could get these shoes at 120 every time, they would be my everyday shoes. I would be willing to pay 150 if they were US made.
