I purchased the speedgoat 4 gortex for a 100km desert hike. Sorry to say they were horrible.
Maybe I didn't walk them in enough (I sure tried). Maybe my sock set up was wrong. But I ended up with horrible blisters on my heels and toes.
Whilst I will take some responsibility for the above there is a real proper design issue.
Despite wearing gators, sand was getting into the shoe. Worse, was it was getting in, in between Gortex outer liner and an inner liner through holes either side of the tongue at the bottom of the laces. Sand would build up inside putting huge pressure on my feet. Getting enough out to continue walking took some effort. Getting all of it out has proved impossible. The shoes sound like a rattle.
No matter how tight I pulled the laces it didn't help. A couple simple stiches to seal that off would work wonders.

The material used and treatment of the edge of the tongue creates such an abrasive service that my ankle was deeply cut after my first 4 mile run in them. Needless to say, they went back in the box and are being returned.

So I got those shoes for trail running especially when I'm on my vacation put them on and went to the trail thank god I had my other shoes in the bag. Had to take them off, the shoe tongue on the right was so stiff it almost cause blistering of my skin. I like hoka products I got the carbon 2 x and it's amazing but this is a failure for me. Will definitely return it

First let me say that I'm a huge fan on the SpeedGoat 3 (I'm working on my sixth pair, have a seventh pair that's still in the box). I also have the SpeedGoat 4 waterproof and regular version. I wore out the SpeedGoat 3 waterproof shoe (the waterproof system for that shoes was called SkyShell) and I never had an issue with my feet getting wet -- unless I stepped in water or mud that was too deep -- so let's call that a user error. I also never had an issue with my feet getting too hot or sweat building up in the shoe. They were perfect, except they wore out after 500+ miles. I purchased the waterproof version of the SG 4 in December 2020, expecting them to be waterproof as advertised. At first I thought my feet we're sweating too much but now, with multiple long runs in the "waterproof" SG 4, it's clear they're not waterproof. I'd called them water resistant in moderate conditions on short runs. I've seen other users report the same problem. I've returned them. Dear Hoka -- please bring back the SkyShell technology. It works, the SG 3s were waterproof. Goretex in the SG 4 is not working.

I really like the feel and performance of this shoe but there seems to be a flaw in the liner. It was bunching up and rubbed two huge blisters on the bridge of my feet during a 50k. I dont know if my shoes just happened to be faulty or if this is a problem with all of them. I hope Hoka looks into this.
