I used these boots for nearly 500 miles and 7 weeks of backpacking in England and Wales over the summer, which was one of the hottest and driest on record. Yet, I feel like my feet were wet for most of the time, and not from sweat. The fit has greatly improved over the earlier models, especially with the roomier toe box. It could still get better with less taper and a more foot-like shape. A nice combination of cushioning and support, though. I like the mid height when wearing a pack. Even though I prefer the current fit to my first generation running shoes, I miss the "surface neutralizing aspect" of original Hokas. Used to be that small gravel, roots, unevenness were much less noticable. A secret weapon for flying downhill down trails! Now they look kinda thick, but I feel more through the sole. These shoes were waterproof for maybe 24 hours, if that. My feet spent most of the trip wet, whether from damp morning grass, rain showers, pavement puddles, or peat bogs. Any moisture at all just soaked right in, and then the waterproof membrane kept it in, with no drainage. Like wearing a plastic bag filled with water. I don't know if it was wicking from shoelaces or faulty membrane, but it was quite disappointing. Especially since I was abroad, had paid full price in the US, and had to stick with them for the whole trip (It was a one pair of footwear trip and a replacement wasn't in the budget.) I appreciated the lack of sewn overlays, but the bonded/heat appliqud (?) trims delaminated after 2 months. They were fine town shoes for going around museums, walking thru the cities, and on trains and the tube...as long as it was dry and sunny.

I LOVE this shoe, how it feels, fits, and keeps my feet dry. I HATE that they started to fall apart almost immediately. I LOVE that HOKA gave me credit for another pair, without hassle. I HATE that now I worry about quality.

I work on my feet on concrete floors 9-10 hours a day. These are the only shoes that keep my feet comfortable and pain free. This is my 5th pair. Don't stop making them.

I hike and backpack, and despite being professionally for shoes, have never found my hiking boot solemate. Everybody’s feet and gait are different. I have tried Merrill and Oboz, and while I like my Oboz, my feet are tired after about 5-6 miles. I started hiking in my Hooka zone One Speedgoats, and loved them; however, I need ankle support. I decided to try these, and I love them! I took a risk after wearing them around the house and wore them for their first hike — 13.2 miles. I had zero issues! My feet were tired but not the same way they are in my other boots. The ankle support was great! I cannot comment on the arch support, as I have no arch and replace any insole to better fit me. I also size up half a size in hiking boots. These are true to size, and sizing up leaves a lot of room in the toe box and keeps me from tearing up my toes hiking downhill.
I'd also recommend:
Oboz Sawtooth Mid

I'm on my feet for 13+ hours and these shoes are saving my knees and lower back. Though they are now my designated covid19 shoes that sleep outside when I get home from work, I still absolutely love them! Will 100% buy again!

Love the Tao boots. Was at our local shoe store wearing my old Speedgoats when I was introduced to the Tao. I have worn the Tao on flat terrain and some mild hills that are muddy, snowy, rocky or flooded terrain. They are my go to shoe. Not too soft or cushy. My feet are kept dry I use a Blue Sport Birkenstock insoles in my Taos

These were amazing until two months in the adhesive began to flake away.

These feel like you're walking on clouds! SO comfortable, they keep your feet dry. I love the fit...I think they run a little big but I appreciate that because I'm usually in-between sizes. Downside: the "webbing" or mesh-type material that is on the outside fabric wears out fast. I've been wearing these for two weeks for my daily dog walks and they already are on the way to wearing through the mesh in spots...very weird.

I went out on a limb and bought these after buying a pair of running shoes. I am so glad I did! I have a lot of issues with my feet from diabetes and needed something extra cushioned. I have very wide feet as well and have so much wiggle room even with thick socks. I suggest getting the size you normally are as they run true to size. They are like clouds on your feet and very lightweight! Buy these you won't be disappointed, worth every penny! Also very cool looking I can wear them with jeans or sporty in shorts or sweats!

I am a longtime Hoka-lover, but didn't have any of their hiking shoes. I didn't have time to break them in before hiking for two days. They were a dream. Absolutely no joint/foot pain, which has been an issue for me lately. I am so glad I decided to splurge on these; they were worth every penny. The foot bed is sturdy but cushioning. The material is breathable but protective. Great color too (Black Iris/Aquamarine)!
I'd also recommend:

I'm not sure if I'm reviewing the men's or women's Toas. We bought both. We are both extremely happy. I have plantar fasciitis and between the hiking shoes and recovery flips it does not bother me as bad when I would wear my Altras. Awesome awesome awesome shoes. Most I've ever spent on hiking boots but I'm glad I did!

I use these shoes for work (meter reading) and hiking. They are water resistant, comfy, and provide great support for long and strenuous hikes. I cant wait to get a new pair!

These are super light, well made, and waterproof. Wanted to love them, but cannot overcome the pronation this shoe design causes no matter what insert I try. For me, its a bad design. Saw another hiker with these on. The pronation was pronounced and looked bad for her gait. I did not get a chance to talk with her. They caused my hips to ache. Cannot recommend unless you are looking for a shoe that turns your feet inward.

Your website says true to size but that is clearly not the case. Is this a waste of resources sending things back-and-forth. However I'll be sending these back and trying a smaller size

Fit true to size, the boots are really really comfortable and have excellent support. I wore those on a hiking trail which was really slippery and the vibram outsole did perfect job for keeping me steady and safe on the uphill. The boots are very stylish unlike most of the hiking boots out there, I’m planning to use them for casual wear too. This is my first time purchasing hoka one one and I instantly became a big fan, more pairs to come in the future for sure

Bought these for daily hikes - there's usually rough terrain and elevation with mud and water. These are comfy and light - and they look good too. I needed ankle support and these provide that as well. True to size fir the most part but roomy enough for wool socks if you need them.

First time to try a Hoka boot and so glad I did. Have several pairs of Hoka athletic shoes and have worn them for at least 5 years. All great and these boots look and feel great too.

I love the look and cushion of this shoe. However, my foot rolls inward around the arch, and I didn't know this until several podiatrist visits later. As it turns out, it is unhealthy to change the way your feet move. Disappointed that I can't return these because it's been a year since I bought them. Upset this potentially dangerous detail was left out of the product description. I hear some people need pronation with footwear, but it literally made my gait unhealthy and it's taken months to correct with other shoes. :(

I’m 64, go on 3-7 mi hikes almost everyday. Live in Oregon so there’s a lot of wet days this winter, they keep my feet dry. Hoka seems to be the only brand that keeps my joints, feet and back from pain. I do add my own insert, a dr scholl insert. I have to with all of my walking-hiking shoes.

I'm a senior hiker who is out on the trails (with my fur kid) everyday. A torn post-tib tendon 6 years ago almost side-lined me, then I discovered HOKAs. I still have (& often wear) my first pair of TOR Summits, but my favorites are now the TOA GTX. So I bought a second pair (in blue)!!

These shoes are so comfortable and perfect for a heavy hike as I used them to hike the Grand Canyon and my feet really thank me for them. The only thing I would change is the width of the shoes. They are slightly too wide and I ordered the normal width.

This is a great compromise between a heavy duty hiking boot and a comfortable walking shoe. I compared it to the Challenger and found this one to be much more comfortable for lighter hiking. The tongue doesn't extend as far up, so it's more comfortable around my ankle, and even though they don't come in wide sizes, this boot is just as wide as my other Hoka's in wide sizes. I haven't done any extending hiking in them yet, but they provide the stability I need for walking off-pavement. Very comfortable for my problematic left foot.
