A great jacket. Lightweight yet really warm and packs away very easily to a compact size. Fits snugly to the body which retains your body heat which is ideal in cold weather.

Warm compared to other similar jackets from different brands. I found it a little warmer than the Cerium LT if that helps any. The fabric is what makes this jacket though- I'm not constantly paranoid that it'll rip.

I bought this jacket in the new year with a few aims in mind; I wanted something that could be my ski mid-layer, looking to replace my t-shirt-fleece-Atom LT set up for those particularly cold days; As a general city piece for the UK; and as a particularly warm layer for a series of winter trips to cold regions, such as Russia. So far I've been able to test it out in the latter two situations, but have no doubt about how well it can work in the former.
When the first (and only) 'cold' snap hit the UK and the temperature hit 0 Celsius, it did impeccably well over just a t-shirt. Having never had a properly warm winter coat in a few years and instead preferring to layer, I forgot how nice it was to have just one coat to throw on and be warm! The tougher face fabric is perfect for the city, where carrying your work backpack or sitting on tube seats can affect lighter fabrics, but not here.
The fit is great, with a bit more give in than the Cerium LT, the comparable mid-weight technical piece. As someone whose body shape does not necessarily fit the Ceriums - at least not without losing some weight first - the fit was relaxed and comfortable.
This brings me onto the final intended use - as an everyday jacket in cold city environments. I spent a week in Moscow, where the temperature varied between -4 and -10 Celcius - reasonably warm for that time of year! The whole week I lived in my Thorium, with just a shirt and fleece underneath. On the colder days, the relaxed fit allowed me to slip an Atom LT vest underneath, and it created a perfect environment to be wondering around the city in.
Whilst I have not had the opportunity to try this as my skiing mid-layer, I have been able to fit it under a shell - it is undeniable bulkier than a cerium, so does struggle under a Gamma MX, but works great under my Sabre or another equivalent ski shell. It will be my go to insulation for those really cold days on the mountain, having performed exceptionally well in these conditions so far.
Overall, a well designed, well thought out insulating layer, of high enough quality to be supremely warm whilst retaining its light weight, which can be used as a mid-layer or really comes into its own as an every-day, cold weather, relaxed fit warm jacket.

Love this jacket! Being wearing Rab down jackets for years have 4 of them different styles and dolls finally made a transition to Arc'teryx this is my first piece I've owned from them and I love it.
Fits snug to to the body I think the sizing is perfect for how I like it to fit and it's very durable I find and it's now my main down jacket and will be looking to get more.

I received my Thorium yesterday and I am beyond impressed. This is the first real down jacket I've purchased, as I've not always been a fan of puffy jackets and thought they looked ridiculous. However, after wearing the Thorium for one night in 30 degree weather, I'm now a believer.
This jacket is, in one word, awesome. I was initially concerned due to some negative reviews, especially about a faulty zipper, however, I should never have doubted the bird. This would be my 4th Arc piece, and I'm thinking it may soon be the one I use most in the rotation. The fit and feel of this jacket is excellent and I'm so surprised that something so light could be so warm. The material is top notch, the stitching, perfectly sewn, and to be honest, this jacket should not be categorized with all the other puffy jackets out there. The Thorium molds to one's body effortlessly and actually flatters my thin frame, if that's even possible for a down jacket.
I love this jacket and as we're starting to get into the colder months here in dry Texas, I feel that I'll be wearing this on a daily basis. Highly recommend for all those looking for a beautiful down jacket that blows everything else out of the water.
As for sizing, I am 65 inches, 135 lbs, and the S fits perfectly.

Ganz klare Kaufempfehlung.

I was looking for a great insulating layer for my shell. I wanted something that could handle a cold ski day but also stand on it own for an evening out after skiing.
I think I have found the perfect fit with this jacket.
It packs down to a more than acceptable size although not as small as some other models.
The fractional size difference is worth it with its multi use ability.
I find it fits comfortably without bulk.

I already have the Thorium SV from last year, and an Atom AR, but I wanted to try this jacket. It has become my favorite. I have worn it on a 30*F day when it was very windy, with a tee shirt and Delta Lt underneath. I was snug as a bug during my 5 mile walk.
I have been wearing it to work most mornings in 30'sF temps with just a dress shirt underneath. When it gets colder, I will put a Beta SV over it. I'll save the Thorium SV for temps around 10* - 15* F.
I really like this jacket. All-around great product, and warmer than my down sweater from a competitor.

I wear this jacket as a stand alone in mild weather and a mid layer when it is cold it serves several purposes for me and performs exceedingly well. I have no complaints at all.

I bought this coat because I needed something lightweight and warm. I had neck surgery and all bulky winter coats pulled on my surgery. No problem with this jacket very light and extremely warm. The first day out I spilled some coffee and it repelled the coffee. It seems to block the wind well but I am located in the northeast and not in the mountains. I am a women and could not find a women's jacket with the same fit. I love love love it the best coat I ever bought myself. Easy to move and drive. Not just for athletes buy one for your mom and dad

Well fitting. Simple design with just the essentials like handpockets and one chest pocket. Lightweight. Well made and stylish warmth. I like that the material ArcT tends to use isn't the cheap looking shiney stuff other brands use for the outer surface.
Looks at home in casual jaunts as well as technical outdoor pursuits.

I bought this jacket to replace a jacket of another brand but with a similar purpose; it is primarily used for city use and hiking. I am extremely pleased with it and it has yet to disappoint. One thing I will note is that it does seem to allow wind to pass through it, so depending on the weather I find I may need to wear it with a shell. Thankfully, I will say that it fits very well under my Beta SL.
A few thoughts about my jacket:
- Some reviews put the jacket down due to a lack of warmth. I frequently use this jacket for my commute to work which includes standing at a bus stop. For this, the jacket can prove to be a little cool past -10 Celsius; but, this jacket works extremely well for me when I have taken it out snow shoeing in much colder weather. Keep this in mind if you plan on using it in cold weather and doing little activity. Otherwise, this is an extremely capable jacket in frigid temperatures.
- As others have noted, the collar is certainly tight. Don't expect to wear a scarf underneath with the collar done up.
- The length of the jacket may be a little short for some uses, especially when its your primary jacket and you are not wearing a base layer (other than a t-shirt) or shell. While out taking photos, I craned my neck up, and raised my arms above me to take a picture and was in for a very cold surprise. This isn't a drawback of the jacket as the length is listed as a feature; its just something to keep in mind.
I highly recommend the jacket as both an excellent mid layer on cold excursions, and as a great looking and highly functional jacket in cooler weather.

I just bought the Thorium AR Jacket. This is a superior product - i love it! This is a very well constructed and thoughtfully engineered jacket - light, very warm and very chic. I am 6-1 200 lbs. I bought the large. It fits me like it was custom made for me. Amazing jacket!
