I have been buying the same shoe for a decade, including with all the changes they have made to this pair of sneakers. Having wide feet, it is hard to find support, especially for those of us with bad arches. They have re-engineered these shoes so that the base is very narrow. Maybe even an inch more narrow!! Yes, the leather is 4E wide, but the base makes it feel like I am walking on a 2x4 instead of the flat ground. Which now means that my feet lean inward because there is less surface area for the arches. Absolutely horrible!! They may be trying to save money by using less rubber for the base, but they have now lost a lifelong customer.

I have been buying 623 for the last 10 years, but the last two pairs after six months the soles started to come a part. I will not buy these any more, since the quality has really gone downhill.

As a first time customer, I ordered this shoe. When it arrived I was shocked to discover it was NOT a new shoe. It was USED!!! Pebbles were in the soles, wear was evident on the toe and they were even dirty. I called customer service. They sent me a new pair of shoes via overnight shipping at no charge and even credited by account for the purchase, so I got them FREE. I call that AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE. They made a mistake, corrected it and then some. You better believe I'm a customer for life! Great company!

NB aren't what they used to be, as Ive had 3 pair fall apart on me, during the last 2 years. Doesn't matter if you buy the high end or low end. BUT, their shoes still have the deepest heel cup, that fit with orthotics.

It's a good looking shoe and runs true to size. It's fairly comfortable but could have more cushioning. I'm also concerned about the sole becoming unglued like my last pair. Hope they fixed the adhesive.

Feeling bummed.... While I normally love this model, the midsole has come unglued in only two weeks. Hoping it was an anomaly. Will be contacting customer service.

I am going to have to stop buying these, the quality control has really gone downhill at NB. I have been wearing NB 620-series shoes for ages but my last two pairs of NB 623s have sucked. I have spent the last year or so repeatedly re-gluing the dark blue bottom layer of the soles onto my previous pair. (Incidentally, I found that E-6000 adhesive works well, if you have this problem.) Within two weeks of receiving my latest pair, the uppers started to detach from the soles in the area of the ball of the foot. On the right shoe (see attached photo) it's on the inside; on the left a similar 3 inch section is detaching on the outside of the shoe. I also feel like the leather of this newest pair has a stiff, cheap feel to it. Finally, I had been wearing size 11 for my last pair and ordered that again, but the shoes felt gigantic. I re-ordered 10.5s and they are OK, but I could probably go down to a 10 and would if I were trying to do anything athletic in these. For day to day walking around this fit is good enough, but feels sloppy. In contrast to my latest couple of pairs, I still have a pair of NB 622's from about 10 years ago that I wear (infrequently now of course) for gardening and other dirty tasks and they have held together so long that the blue bottom layer of the sole is almost completely worn away in places.

Like others here, I've been wearing New Balance MX623 for many years. With every new version, they seem to get a little bit worse, but they've finally crossed the line and cost-reduced these once great shoes to the point that they are no longer comfortable. The tongue isn't stable and curls itself over making it uncomfortable on the top of my foot. The arch support has been reduced. The back of the shoe is now very weak and collapses when I put the shoes on. This is what happens when companies continue to squeeze every penny they can out of the costs. It's a shame. I've always loved these, but no more.

I've owned this sneaker before. I go back to it because it's comfortable, with no break in time and has a long life span.

I tried this 623 because the 2 pair of 608s squeaked. This sneaker did not have enough sole cushioning; hence, not as comfortable.

These are great shoes with a few caveats: they are more of a casual shoe to be worn with jeans or khakis; the cushioning is not suitable for running and I would not wear them to train or work out in. Great for walking around just not so great for hard core working out. Fit true to size.

Have gotten these before and have had excellent luck with all but one pair. And even then, after contacting Zappos and detailing the problem, Zappos sent me a new replacement pair at no cost and no returning the defective ones. Excellent Customer Service.

I have been wearing this model since New Balance began making them. The are my favorite NB shoe. I have several other different NB shoes, but these are the top shoe for me. If you are older with knee and or hip problems, I highly recommend this shoe.

Ordered these for my husband because he couldn't find any similar shoes that he liked at the New Balance outlet near where we live. He loves the fit and color and it's become his favorite "go to" shoe for casual wear. He's never ordered from Zappos before and was pleased with the quick, free delivery and return policy (even though it wasn't needed!).

I wear this shoe all the time so not only for tennis. I have found that I need to use an athletic gel insert as the one that comes in the shoe has no support.

There are 2 things that make finding and buying shoes very difficult for me. first, I wear a near-impossible to find size: 7 3E. Second, I have severe plantar fascitis in both feet. These 2 things limit what I can buy. I have been wearing New Balance for about 10 years and the 623 model for at least 2 years. Like all New Balance shoes, the fit is spot on (I wear 4E in New Balance). There is absolutely no break-in time with these shoes. Best of all, they give me the support I must have. Recently, I purchased a pair of Asics because they looked nice. They had my size, but they were way too narrow. I promptly returned them and ordered the New Balance 623. If you need a very comfortable and supportive shoe, this is it.

I like the way they look but they feel cheaply made. One shoe had sharp stitching on the underside of the tongue which was stabbing me in my foot. Had to unlace and trim it off.

The shoe is does not have a leather upper as it's plastic. As a result, the shoe is stiff and not very comfortable.

As an ICU nurse, I've worn these for a couple years. They're comfortable, fit properly ("true to size"), and the laces don't come loose. The shoes seem to last about 2 years before you start seeing cracks where the top meets the sole. All in all, a good deal. I just ordered my second pair.

I have another model of New Balance that is 2E, and this model is 4E but feels more like the 2E. Is very light weight, much lighter than my previous 623, so I hope that doesn't mean lower quality. Time will tell.

These are beautiful sneakers ...but its 1-2 sizes LARGER than the label indicates. I can hold them up to a 8.5 EE sneaker, also from New Balance, and its OBVIOUS that the labeling (on at least this pair) is incorrect.

My husband thought these shoes were very comfortable at first but soon discovered that they made his back and hip hurt after a couple of hours of wear. Very disappointing.
