100 miles in: Great boots for FAT FEET! I am a barefoot woman which results in fat feet, so have been wearing men's boots. I hike about 1000 miles a year and this last year have suffered from soft corns between my little toe and the next one. Time for new boots.
My New Balance boots are awesome - no more corns, no calluses on my baby toes. No seams rubbing on my foot.
And they each only weigh 1lb 1 oz. (4 oz less than my other boots). So very light weight and comfortable. What more could you want? Well, one more loop up the ankle would be great - it's just two not three.
Oh, these are not stylish - very plain, but I'm a hiker not a movie star!

I bought these boots six months ago. I have 4E wide feet, but I had to exchange the 10.5 size (what I normally wear) for an 11 because they were a little narrow. The 11's were very comfortable and I wore these boots quite often through the winter and spring. Now, six months the boots are still very comfortable, plenty of padding left in the original insole, and the soles are worn but not overly so and I have to stop wearing the boots. On the outside of booth boots, where the black rubber toe meets the brown leather there is a hole developing on the boot. It is right on the seam, and right where the toe box bends when I walk. I usually love the quality and durability of New Balance, but in this case I'm going to go with another brand that may hold up better to wear. I should also say that while these are hiking boots, and I was really looking forward to using them as such this summer, they have never been worn for anything other than day-to-day. I'm glad I noticed the holes now and didn't notice when water and mud started pouring in to the boot on a hike.

These were for my husband who has a ridiculously difficult time finding shoes that fit and that are comfortable. These fit perfectly and were comfortable enough to wear ALL day from day one. PERFECT.

I love those shoes. I bought the exact same model in October 2016 @Zappos. I put them 6 days out of 7 – so it’s mostly every day!!! Here a picture, my 1st pair more than 3 years later beside the new ones just bought and arrived in 24h (thanks Zappos). The new model is slightly lighter, as good and nice as the old one. Very very good support for the feet and ankle, they are light and correct my overpronetion perfectly without any sole insert or replacement. Love New Balance for that.

Comfortable boots. No problems with seams, pinch or rub points. Just enough room to move my toes. Shoes are nice looking, but not fancy. They have a waterproof membrane, so they can get a little warm. That said, they are very water resistant, which is what they were designed for. For my feet, New Balance 4E width is a perfect fit, so I am very happy with the fit of these boots.

I almost returned these boots for two reasons, height and tags detailed below. However I modified them, and have put a couple of hundred miles on them in the Alps and Sierras.
Pros: great fit for me. I have narrow feet and New Balance makes shoes that work for me. [I always pull out the factory insoles and buy more arch support. I am currently using Sofsole FIT High Arch 3.3 cm insoles which are perfect.] The boots are light, sturdy, stable, durable.
Cons: The dumb tags on the tongue; see photos. New Balance: why are they there? They bunch up and make lacing difficult; they have no purpose. I almost returned the boots because of these tags. I took a seam ripper and removed them without consequence.
I still like the style and height of my old NB 1569s, but marketing says they have to change things, not always for the better. The 1400's are an adequate replacement.

I ordered these shoes in 13/4E. I felt confident in the size b/c I have worn New Balance walking, crosstraining and running shoes in that size for probably 15 years. When these came, I could barely get my feet in them. I would say they are either mislabeled or at least two sizes too small. They look at least two inches shorter than my dress shoes, which are 12EEE. Right now I am wearing my 13/4E NB walking shoes which are less than two years old and which are, if anything, a little loose. I am sending these back and not trying again. i am loyal to NB b/c of their production of shoes in widths, but this was ridiculous. It's hard to find these in stores which is why I ordered online, but that's the last time I try that.

Great boot for someone with narrow feet, I typically have to add inserts to my boots to help make them fit, but being able to purchase a narrow wide made them fit out of the box.

One of the most comfortable pair of boots that I have ever worn. I have size 14 EEEE feet, and these are just perfect! HOWEVER... I have been through 3 pairs of these, and every single pair has lasted less than 4 months (granted, I walk 200-300 miles per month). The toe of the right boot has separated from the sole on all three pairs. I wish they were more durable!

These shoes are great for walking. I'm 83 years old and walking sometimes is difficult for me, but these shoes have made walking a lot more comfortable.

I wear these shoes all the time, except when I am sleeping. I use the old ones for work boots. When I first put them on it is like I have been wearing them forever. Until I found these shoes, my feet constantly hurt. Great Product.

I have foot problems that required surgery several years ago. New Balance has consistently been by far the most comfortable shoe for me. My recent purchase is the third for this specific shoe. I order the same size each time, and the shoe has been consistent it fitment and finish.

Judging by the last pair of hiking shoes and hiking boots I have purchased New Balance must be having an in house contest to see who can design the most dorky looking footwear. However they still fit well and are comfortable.

Good fit, good ankle support for hiking. This is my 4th pair, never a problem right out of the box.

My husband was wearing through shoes at work every 2 months. His feet hurt, he was always feeling worn down and tired. On a whim, while visiting Indianapolis, we stopped in the New Balance store. He had been looking for something with more ankle support for work. They did a great job! They analyzed and sized his feet and watched how he walked to make recommendations. He was hesitant at first because of the cost and they said he was wearing shoes too big for his feet. He finally agreed to try them. He went down by a half size in shoe, bought the recommended inserts and guess what? He came home from work the first day of wearing them and said they were like walking on clouds. He felt great! His feet were not sore, he was less tired than normal. They lasted him 11 months of constant walking the shop floors! This purchase was a replacement, for the exact same boots. He was so impressed, we replaced them with the same. He loves them, and we will buy them again next time also! Footwear does make a difference in how you feel. New Balance has our vote!

I am 62 years old and weigh ~ 275 lbs. I purchased these shoes for home landscaping and gardening activities. I am not a hiker, per se, but believed the engagement of both activities would be much the same, i.e. "off road" :-). That being said, these shoes have been everything I hoped for. After wearing them for the first time, by the end of the day my knees felt so much better than they did with my old shoes. The high top for ankle support, along with the roll bar feature, delievered what I needed. Furthermore, to my surprise, the shoes felt much lighter than I had anticipated. I also found the toe box in this shoe to be more spacious than NB's athletic style shoes; I wear a 15 EE.

I ordered a 4E (very wide) and they felt snug. Overall the shoe is very nice and light weight if you don’t have a wide foot.

Bought this boot to go backpacking and worked out great. I have wide feet and decided to go with the 4E, as I usually do with all my shoes, and this one felt a touch narrow in the beginning, but took me a few hours to break them in and they felt great. Hiked 10 miles no problem in these. Decent grip on wet terrain, but I did not test them on snowy or icy terrain. They are comfy for the most part.

I ordered these with a 6E width. Way too small, they were tighter than the 4E width golf shoes and running shoes I bought at the same time. Sent back for a refund

Words cannot express the depth of my disappointment with the sizing of these shoes. I wear a 9.5 wide. I ordered the 10 wide and these are more like an 8 narrow. I usually could depend on New Balance to actually make a wide width, but this company seems to have gone the way of all others: make a wide width that is actually a medium or narrow. Well, Zappos is going to have to eat the shipping as these are going back and it is back to trial and error to find a hiking boot that is actually wide when it is labeled "wide"

I bought these boots at the end of winter in the USA (Pacific and Inland NW.) I live in Spokane, WA and am a housecleaner who routinely works 80 hours a week. I have worn these shoes to work. They are very waterproof and very breathable...even when it's hot at work. GREAT ankle support that does not create blisters because the ring spreads out over a lot of your lower leg, not just rubbing on one spot..and that ring is wonderfully breathable. (That is the only spot that some water will soak in a *little.* And I mean, a *very little*, when stream crossing in water deeper than my shoe. I have been in mud and lakes getting out of kayaks. I hiked difficult terrain (large, loose rocks) at Goldbug, ID, 8 mi. in Craters of the Moon Natl Monument on rough lava of all sids that cuts your skin. 10 miles in Silver Falls State Park. The stability that these shoes offer in various terrains is AWESOME. The recommendation to get a size bigger than normal is spot on. I take 8.5s in women to accomodate my wide feet (4E. Women's default is B width.) So I ordered 4.5 in men's, in which D is the default width... and I could not be happier. Probably 200 miles so far on these shoes at local hikes in Spokane...rain, snow, mucking around the yard, and on concrete for city walks. Good for stair climbs and footing... I was a bit concerned about the flat-ish tread design, but I have not slid or fell. The best part? NO FOOT ODOR. GREAT MATERIALS. No damage at all to the shoe with all that I have done!

Have very flat feet and do a lot of walking for my job. These are the only boots that my feet aren't killing me at the end of the day.
