Bought these for trail hiking, occasional trail running. I already have a pair of Topo boots for trail running and my love for hem led me to purchase the MT-5. The wide toe box is most comfortable, room enough for a thick wool sock. This shoe is roomy, I usually wear 11.5 in brooks running shoes but size 11 in Topo gives plenty of room. The cushioning is very comfortable and the sole feels stable over bridal path/gravely trails. Not waterproof but did repell some puddles. I don't have a narrow foot but I had to tie the laces very tight to get the foot/ ankle support I needed. Overall a good shoe for the money.

I've tried previous generations of the MT's with no luck as they would rip along the seams and just be plain uncomfortable after a few miles. The bottoms of my feet would hurt even after a simple run in the previous MT's. But I would still run in them for certain trails due to the hybrid nature of the shoe. WOW am I glad I gave the 5's a chance! The improvements are incredible!! My feet don't hurt, the grip is awesome for a hybrid, and so comfy. They do run big so best to go down 1/2 size.

I've been trail running in Topo MTs since the MT-3. I think the MT-5 is more like a different shoe versus an update to its predecessors. The 5's tongue is thinner and more comfortable than the 4. I also like the increased cushion; 5-8 miles feel like nothing in the MT-5s when my feet would be aching in the 4s. While I usually prefer < 3mm drop shoes, I haven't noticed a difference with the small increase to 5mm. Also, I have consistently disliked Topo's colorways over the years, but I really dig this grey-black combination. The upper is more plastic-y than the 4's mesh - it feels a bit cheap and I'm interested to see how long it holds up and how it performs wicking-wise once summer hits. This shoe runs a bit too long in the toebox and too wide in the instep, midfoot and toebox; I didn't really notice at first as I got them winter and was wearing thicker wool socks; I am going to size down on my next pair. I am 117lbs with average volume feet, but I have to tie the shoes so tight that the upper bunches up into ridges at the first set of laces near my toes. This bunching also happened with my MT-4s. I generally love the round toebox, however. I also wish the MT-4 had a more aggressive lug pattern, at least as much as the MT-4s had. I alternate between the MT-5, the Topo Pursuit and Hoka Speedgoat - the Speedgoat used to be my favorite, but the MT-5 is my new favorite. The MT-5s have the cushion with the more comfortable foot shape and toebox, and I also like the MT's oval-ish laces vs Hoka's flat laces.

I wouldn't change a single thing with these shoes! I finally found my favorite trail running shoes that support my feet and don't leave me with sore bruised nails or blisters. The wide toe box is amazing, they're true to size, and the colors are wonderful. I will never purchase from another company. I have put over 150 miles in my current pair and they still feel like heaven on my feet. If you're unsure about these, please take my word and try them! Thank you Topo Athletic!!

Took them out for a trail race and loved them. Easy to run right out of box, light but solid and no blisters or pain after. I hate ridgid shoes due to my bunion and these felt great.

I love Topo shoes. Ultrafly are my go to for running and walking. I wanted a model with Vibram soles and tried the Mtn Racer without success (narrower than other Topo). I gave the Mtn 5 a try based on looks and absolutely love them.

Ultrafly are my favorite Topo model. I use for running, walking, hiking. For extra wear, I tried the Mtn Racer with Vibram sole but found the fit too narrow for me and a hair short vs the Ultrafly. Decided to give the Mtn 5 a try and love them out of the box. Length is great as is toe box width. The fit is classic Topo. I'm a big fan of Topo low profile tongue. The Mtn 5 tongue is more padded which worries me, but will see.

I'm so happy I discovered Topo. These are the first shoes I've ever worn that felt immediately comfortable. Most shoes make my toes feel cramped or are too loose in the heel. I am not a runner, but as someone who spends long shifts walking and crouching on hard, textured floors, I need a supportive, flexible shoe with a durable sole and plenty of toe room. I love the simple, modern design that isn't over-engineered. It does what a shoe should do and does it perfectly.

Great walking shoe. I wore Hokas for many years and thought they were good, but Topo really surprised me with the same cushy supportive fit without the bulk.

This is my first pair of MT-5 and they are great. I've worn Topo MTN Racers, Fly-Lytes, and Ulta-Flys and like them all. I got these MT-5 to wear mostly as road shoes. They have the same amount of cushion as the Fly-Lytes and Utra-Flys and I'm hoping the bottoms don't wear out as fast. I got the emerald/pink and love the colors. Felt true to size to me and not bigger anywhere like some of the other reviews.

Buying shoes online without trying on first usually doesn't end well for me. But these fit fantastic, and they feel greatcomfy out of the box. I'm a super fan of shoes that follow the natural shape of your foot, and these did not disappoint. My toes are happy!

I wear the MT-5 for golf, as I have not found a golf shoe that has a wide enough toe box. Neuropathy, arthritis, and other foot issues have made it difficult in finding shoes that are comfortable to wear all day. These shoes are working for me, and my feet are very happy.

I have a back condition that causes neuropathy like symptoms in my feet & legs. I had been a avid hiker until this happened. I owned the MT-4s (3mm drop) which were very comfortable but after awhile my right hip would start hurting, when the MT-5s came out (5mm drop) I thought I would try them. I LOVE these shoes, hip pain is gone. I just came back from a trip to Zions & Bryce Natl park, with the help of these shoes (& trekking poles) I was able to do many of the easier hikes & walk further distances. I just wish they came in colors similar to the MT4s. :)

These are responsive and have great grip. I usually wear my normal size in Topo (W 8.5) and these ran long for me. Hasn't been a problem for running but I would size down 0.5 size otherwise.

I’ve worn Altras for years because they are very comfortable but they lacked in construction and stability so I tried the Topos. Nice toe box plenty of room allows for any swelling. My heel sits nicely in the “cup” and I have room for a slim arch support as well. I’m also impressed with the stability. These are my new favorites! Only reason this isn’t a five star review is because they don’t appear to be water proof or water resistant, my toes get wet when walking through damp morning dew grass. Also, I’m a walker about 4 miles a day. We have plenty of rocky hillsides and grassy slopes so the shoes get a good workout, I’m hoping these last a few months before I wear them out. So far so good.

Sadly will be returning. I loved a pair of topos I had a few years ago. I wanted to try the trail ones this time for running both of road and trails. The sizing was way off! I am always a solid size 6. These were easily a size too big. If I could have ordered smaller I would have but that isn’t an option. Color was nice and bright and felt like it had medium amount of cushioning. Really wish sizing was like it has been in the past. I’m really bummed.

This is myn10thnpair of topo and my usual size is legit too big. Thankfully they have the 30nday guarantee because it took me awhile to really realize this. Otherwise I loved them. I've had thr MT-3 and MT-4, the Mtn racer, and 3 different models of the ultrafly for gym and pavement. Love topos

I owned a pair of MT4 and when I saw this updated model thought I would give them a try. A little dubious about the 5mm drop since 3mm is my preferred. To be honest, I do have a bunion on my left foot. Topos are usually not a problem, comfy out of the box and no issues with the bunion. But this pair was another story. I cut my hike short today, the pain became intolerable. Something is different and perhaps in concert with the 5mm drop and some other alteration in the design just didn't jive with my foot. There was also a sense of less sturdiness in the shoe, a lack of support on the sides. Gonna stick to 3 mm in the future and might try a wide model if there is one in 3mm.

I ended up returning these for several reasons. Firstly, they were too wide. Second, they felt really flimsy and like they wouldn't last a couple long hikes before falling apart. Lastly, you can feel each tooth of the grip through the bottom of the shoe so it feels like you're walking on pebbles. I really wish these were better executed because they were otherwise comfortable and I really liked the green colorway.

I’ve had such great luck with Topos to date, I didn’t think much of this one feeling a little snug on the ball of my foot when I first put it on, and the arch support felt good, so I excitedly wore them out on a short walk without bothering to wear them around the house first. Huge mistake! These are the most uncomfortable Topos I’ve ever worn, and I have four other styles that are all amazing. Within minutes these started rubbing on my pinky toes and also the ball of the foot, and after 10 min the soles of my feet started to go tingly. By the time I cut my walk short and got home my feet were actually in pain. I am shocked that Topo could make something this bad. And a bummer because the emerald and pink looks great. I’d return them if I could. (Note: my husband has the men’s MT-5 and does not have these issues. Not sure if the men’s version is better or if the shape of his foot is better suited for it.)

Unfortunately this trail shoe does not work for me. It is stiff and the 'support' and lack of cushioning is painful. I miss the numerous trail runners I have purchased over the years, I have loved all of my other Topos mile after mile and I will continue enjoying other Topo shoes but the MT-5 was a mistake.

The MT has been in my rotation for the last 4 years, mostly used for light trail and sometimes snowy roads. It's been a favorite amongst the ST and some Altra models. The update to include an increased drop pushes this model out of desirable shoe specs for me. I will not be purchasing this edition due to the drop being over 3mm. sorry Topo. :-(
