I got these shoes to try to make them my do everything shoe and they've fulfilled that perfectly. On a recent trip they were my only shoe: wore them driving in the car, wore them kicking around Nashville, wore them on my morning road runs around the AirBNB, wore them hiking on trail-wading through streams and climbing, and wore them to a hockey game and kicking around downtown. They were perfect.
The stack-height and cushioning is perfect for this, soft enough to not get beat up when road-running but not so tall that I feel like I'm walking around on a mattress. The fit is typical Topo-perfect, lots of room in the toe-box but nice and fitting around the ankle/heel. The lugs are deep enough to be helpful on a hike, but shallow enough it doesn't feel like you're walking around in cleats.
The only thing I kind of don't like is the main material for the upper is a little too plastic-looking for my taste, but on the flip side this keeps the upper from looking dirty when you've been wearing it hiking around in the wilderness for a day, but then turning around and wearing them to eat out downtown the next.
Overall I'm very happy with the purchase and will definitely be replacing these with the same thing when the time comes.

I've been wearing Topos almost exclusively for 4 years now. My favorites were the Mountain Racer 2s for trail and Phantom 3 for road, but I lean towards the trail shoes for everyday wear. These replace my Mountain Racers 2s for all time favorite for all purposes. My only concern is that I'm always a 10.5, and I had to go down to 10 with these. Probably could even go down to a 9.5, but comfy a half size down from my normal size. The combination of cushion, support, response, and roominess all put these at the top of my list.

My sole shoe ( flip flops too) for a 4-month trip through Central/South America. Been on multi-day volcano hikes, underwater, multiple 5k runs, and on city streets 20,000+ steps a day on average and going strong.
These are a perfect all-around shoe. ST-5 as well if you want a minimal shoe. The Topoadveture were too tall & aggressive for my case.
Con: Tread near toes is NOT aggressive, you will slip and slide in looser earth these are not the shoes to do hard trailrun with. Toe box is A+

The structure of the shoe seems to give just a bit of stability without getting in the way.

I've worn pretty much only Topo shoes for the last 3 to 4 years. My favorite were the Mountain Racer 2s, until I received the MT5. I've always ordered a 10.5 from Topo, so had to return and go down to a 10, and probably could have fit into a 9.5. Despite this, they are my new favorites. Comfortable, supportive, and quite possibly the best looking Topos I have (black and charcoal).

#sweepstakes Very comfortable for exercising and everyday wear. I need a roomy toe box for a nerve condition, and the MT-5 feels great. The price was reasonable, too. And finally the shoestrings are long enough!

Brought these as my "everyday" shoe and couldn't be more pleased. I wear them on both paved and NP trails and also for casual walking around my little town. Just an all-around comfortable, solidly-built, and good-looking shoe.

Things I like:
* Typical topo style shape
* Light and comfortable for up or downhill running. Enough cushioning for protection but not so much to compromise stability
* Good look
* Better than MT 3. I think 5mm drop is a sweet spot for many people
* Heel counter: does not aggravate Achilles
Areas to improve:
* Shoe is longer than my other size 11s. For me personally, this is ok. I wear ankle braces and the overall fit is nice. Doesnt overall affect my running experience but I am aware they are slightly long.
* Durability tbd. I'm in my first week of use
Summary: I'm excited about the product. I enjoy use and would buy again.

Love the feel. My feet feel happy even at the end of a long day wearing the MT-5. Very comfortable and light. The only drawback might be for traction on “floury terrain” such as loose, fine, broken up shale or powdery fine sand. Besides that, a great shoe. I would purchase them again.

I wear Topo almost exclusively for daily wear. Love the quality and fit generally. This shoe is "lighter" by design I understand but a bit lighter on my foot than expect...feels less substantive and I prefer more support. That said, I will wear them for certain conditions and an happy with the product.

I like these but my little left toe is killing me. I wear a 10.5 and there is about 1/4 to 1/5 inch of space before my toes hit the end of the shoe. I also have problems with nerve issues on both feet and these don't offer much padding. I just wear these for walking around my lab and spend most of my time sitting. The end of the day my feet are killing me. So wrong shoe for my feet.

The mesh like marial used is weak and rips easily. I have a hole on both shoes where the box is. This happened 1 month after I bought them. I wish Topo used better materials specifically for the price I paid.

Each wearer is different. For me, the MT-4 was a comfortable and supportive shoe for long daily walks on asphalt and concrete. I've owned two pair and I'd gladly continue buying them if I could still find them. For my feet, the MT-5 doesn't provide the same level of midfoot support or heel lock-in. The MT-5 seems a smidge wider in the toebox in a way that doesn't work as well for me. At first, I liked the more cushioned ride of the MT-5 but I believe it's caused some foot pain; I'm not feeling the same pain when I switch back to my MT-4s. For the last year, the MT-4 has been my walking shoe and the Traverse has been my hiking shoe. When the MT-4s wear out in the next month or two, I'll probably use Traverses for both.

I have been wearing Topos for the past 3-4 years. This was the 6th pair I'd purchased. Up until this pair, I thought I'd found my forever brand. Everything about the Topo fit was great. I wish they lasted a bit longer but they were so comfortable out of the box - I was willing to pay the price. On the new shoe, the new upper looks great and feels fine but the lower is so different - it feels like a different company made this shoe. Still wide in the toebox and narrow in the heel - however everything that touches the bottom of my foot feels different. The heel feels lower, the arch is higher - the footbed wraps more than it used to. On the product page, it says "The platform gets a total redesign for a fresh ride." so I guess I was warned. I reached out to customer service who confirmed that it was indeed different but all that was mentioned was the increased stack height. I tried them off-and-on for two months, hoping the footbed would "break in". All I got for it was foot pain. The shoe seems made well but the fit is so completely different than my five previous pairs. If this is the path Topo is going to take moving forward (my guess... they're trying to compete with Hoka) - then, I'm out. I wish Topo tried to increase their customer base by adding 'new' products with different fit/feel instead of changing all the shoes across the board with the risk of alienating their loyal customers. But maybe it's just me.

Longtime user of Topo shoes, have run in Phantom 1-3, Atmos, Specter 1 & 2, MTN Racer 2 & 3. Don't understand why it's marketed as a beginner's trail shoe, it's a road trail hybrid. Decent cushion, had no issues with length, fit TTS for me. Had a bit of heel slippage. The problem is the upper. Has a plastic-ey feel that pinches the toes when flexing. The cosmetic overlays on the small toe side contribute to this as well. Baffled this wasn't identified during prototype stage.

This is a disappointing release. I've run in multiple different Topo's. Have experience with Phantom 1-3, Ultraventure 1-3, MTN Racer 2-3. Frankly baffled this shoe was released. The midsole material feels reasonably cushioned, no issues with traction, and unlike other reviewers, I didn't find the shoe ran long. Has been same true to size for all other Topos that I have worn. The big problem with this shoe is the upper. The material feels very cheap, best word to describe it is "plastic-ey". The point where the toe box flexes across the toes digs in and pinches where toe joints meet feet. Additionally, the plastic overlays by the little toes pinch as well, & serve no functional purpose. This iteration of the MT series needs to go back to the designers/ drawing board. This is a very poor release.

I've always been a size 12 in Topo shoes. I have been super happy that they have maintained such a consistent sizing across all their styles over the years. It really makes ordering them online great because you could rely on them fitting. Well, that time is over I suppose. These really are huge. They're like a full inch longer than all my other Topo models. Hope it's just an MT-5 issue.
