These had plenty of room in the foot area and decent foot cushioning (a few things Birk seems to struggle with in their non sandal options) which I was super excited about They are structured and rigid, but they are also leather so need a break in period to mold into something more flexible The one downside is that the ankle piece is really tight. I have large ankles (not swollen just fat) - circumference is about 11in - and these are incredibly tight. I haven’t worn them enough for them to loosen up but I’m hoping they do! If you are a dainty ankle individual you will be ok!

As one reviewer commented these boots are a little on the heavy side and do take a bit to get used to. That being said, they are the most comfortable shoes. I have been suffering from foot pain for the last couple of years and have tried several well known brands that were supposed to be excellent for helping various foot pain issues. They all provided some relief but by the end of the day my feet still hurt. After wearing Birkenstock shoes for the last couple of months, my foot pain is almost none existent (something that I had begun to feel was unobtainable). Needless to say, I am a convert. Thank you Birkenstock!

The size is true to size. I wear a 10 women's and ordered the 10 women's and it fits perfectly with room for a thicker sock if needed. I have a high arch and this fits and feels better than any boot I've ever owned. The elastic around the ankle is enough to hold boot on comfortably and still pull on over foot without a struggle. The brown leather is beautiful and the boot can be dressed up or casual.

Loved the boot but even though I ordered narrow it was much too wide for my foot.

I could barely get the boots on my foot. The top is very narrow. Once I squeezed my foot in, the boot felt okay in width and support but dug into my shin as I walked. The top of the boot is quite slim. I couldn't wear them for more than 2 minutes. The profile is very chunky except around the lower calf.

Not for larger ankles or calves, they could barely go on and were very uncomfortable on my ankles. I assumed since Birks are more unisex that the ankles might be larger than barbie-sized but oh well. Back they go.

I am a true 8W, and I usually do best with an 8.5W (sometimes even a 9W, if it's hiking boots, and I know my feet will swell after a long day in them). The style of these boots looked wide, so I took a chance with the 39Ms. They fit with very thin socks on, but I knew the weight and close fit would cause me grief within an hour or so. The style of the foot portion looks like the boat-like saddle shoes of the Peanut Gang, but the height of the shaft and the vertical ribbing does help offset that. Not quite sleek, but at least the lines are clean. I needed my long shoe horn to put these on; there was no way I could have done it without that, but I also have a fairly high instep. YMMV. The lug sole felt very sturdy, and there was distinct arch support inside, but it was oddly placed for my particular foot—more toward the front of my foot than my arch. It's too bad Zappos doesn't sell the wide versions. I will look elsewhere for those, despite the boat-like look! I was also a fan of the particular shade of black on these boots, also.

The heel is way too wide and slips on me. They are going back. Too bad because they are as comfortable as you'd expect Birks to be.

Ordered 41 as I wear size 10 ( wide feet). Good boot for walking, however, at this point in time, more of a barefoot shoe person; these boots felt heavy (1 pound each) so returned them. Will keep on eye out for lighter weight boot.

I am usually an 11 and my Bostons are a 42, but a 41 is roomy in a good way for these...a 42 would have been huge. Def go a European size down. They do have a wide forefoot, wider-looking than Bluntstone or Docs, but I don't agree that they look "clownish." All Birks have a wide forefoot...it's consistent, but yes, wider than other similar brands styles.

Looks and feels like typical Birkenstock quality. Unfortunately with a boot, it would be helpful to have full and half size. I always wear a 10 and these are too long. I am not sure 8f the next size down fit.

OMG! These boots feel amazing, soft and cozy like a slipper, but I need a little more support due to the looser heal (or proportionate with the width?). I have a wider foot at a 7.5, but a narrow heel; so, the heel is also wider and will not work in the size I ordered. Hoping to try a 1/2 size smaller (Although, I have two other birks in the size I bought.....)

I read a review that these fit tight on your ankle, so I felt ready, but these are so tight that I couldn’t get them on without my sock pulling hard against my toes with no way to ease the pull. They are beautiful to look at.

These are heavy boots and the uppers are kind of stiff leather. I bought both the 40 and the 41 and the larger ones bit better with socks. They will take some wearing to break in.

I love the brand and all my sandals. I wanted to love these too because they fit great. But the toe box was so wide it kinda looked like a clown shoe. I love a wider toe box usually; it's more comfortable to me. But the look of that wide front/toe was not my taste.
