Returned without wear. I don't know what the designers were thinking. The Gaviota 4's, upon wear, provided instant comfort and pain relief from chronic hip and knee issues. The 5's are so wide that I can't even tighten the laces enough to wear. My feet swim in them. I know that there is a wide ordering option for folks with wider feet. Why did you make the regular size so wide at the front? You had a great thing going with the 4's, and you really messed up here. Please, fix these abominations. I feel like a sideshow and that squeakers should go off in the background as I walk.

Heaven sent! I just switched to the Gaviota 5 instead of wearing the Hoka Bondi 8. I am a chronic pain patient and the Hoka 7's gave me back a wonderful quality of life allowing me to walk and be active, again. The Hoka 8's unfortunately are not for me. I had pain radiating up my legs and my feet felt so heavy so I could wear these maybe for a church service but not for walking all day.
If you are having problems switching from the 7's to the 8's it is more than likely because the 8's weigh almost 2 oz more and there is a difference in the heel part.
A Hoka rep is the one who suggested the Gaviota 5. I am so grateful for them. I feel like I am back in a pair of 7's! My legs, feet and hips do not hurt and I feel like I am walking on a cloud once again as I travel through the hospital to visit my brother!

I LOVE these shoes! I needed to replace the pair of Hoka One One Gaviota 4 shoes that I had because the bottom was starting to get smooth in several places. I suffer from Plantar Fasciitis, Overpronation, Arthritis in my feet, Pain and burning on the bottoms of my feet, toe and ball of foot pain, a damaged ligament from twisting my left ankle, left knee pain from arthritis, sciatica on the left side and neck and low back pain and I need a a wide toe box. So I need a shoe that can provide plenty of cushion and support and help with all of these health issues. The Gaviota 4 that I've been wearing is a wide width. I ordered this shoe in both a medium and a wide width and the medium is so roomy it fits perfectly. The change from the J frame to the H frame is very noticeable. More cushion feels fabulous! From the moment I tried these shoes on they felt like they had been custom made just for my feet! They are so comfortable, roomy yet stable and I can't say enough about the cushioning! Thank you so much for making my feet happy so that I can enjoy walking my little Yorke so much more and walk farther distances because my feet don't hurt!

I started with the gaviota 4 about a year ago, and this may sound dramatic but this shoe has been life changing for me. This new 5 is even better than I could imagine! There is more room in the toe box, without making the whole shoe wider. The cushioning feels even softer/squishier than the 4. Extremely happy and will continue to buy again and again!

I have suffered in the past from Plantar Fasciitis, so I am VERY picky about what shoes I purchase. I do a LOT of research before deciding on a pair of shoes. After reading COUNTLESS reviews I chose the Gaviota 5's in black. They are WONDERFUL! Very supportive and comfortable. And guess what? No Plantar Faciitis pain! I will definitely stick to HOKAS from now on. These shoes ROCK!

Completely different shoe than than the Gaviota 4. The arch is extremely high and is not good for flat feet. Really disappointed. Thought the Gaviota 5 would be similar to 4, but it is much different. The shoe sole itself is wider, but the arch cuts way further in.

The podiatrist recommended Hoka shoes for some feet problems I have. Unfortunately, I need a narrow shoe and Hoka doesn't make shoes in narrow width. In the past the Gaviota 2 fit OK. Unfortunately, the Gaviota 5 is much wider. I'm attaching a photo of a Gaviota 2 (pink trim) and the new Gaviota 5. They are both women's 8.5 medium width.

I currently have the Gaviota 4’s and they’re super worn (because I’ve loved them!) so I bought an identical pair of 4’s as well as this pair of 5’s so I could compare them. The photos show a few style (fabric, foam composition) and functional (toe box width, tread placement) differences. I totally understand the reviews that ask why HOKA made such a dramatically wider toe box on this model, but I’m finding after wearing them around the house a bit that the extra horizontal room is actually really beneficial to me. I suddenly feel like my toes and the ball of my foot are a bit squished in the 4’s, and I’m noticing that I wiggle my toes every so often to try to get them to be a little comfier. I’m sure many disagree still, but personally I am finding the 5’s to be a step up!

If you have flat arches, or your feet roll inwards, or you suffer from plantar fascitis and you love to run long runs (10+ miles)... Look no further.
While you won't be the fastest out there, your feet, knees, hips and back will thank you.
Hoka shoes helped me become a runner.
I'm onto my 6th pair of Gaviotas, they get better and better.
My only comment is regarding sizing: These are slightly smaller than 3rd and 4th editions, so you might want to try them on. I bought my usual size, but could have done a bit better with sizing half a size up.

Wow! I'm honestly amazed. A friend of mine kept recommending HOKA shoes to me for a few months and I decided to finally purchase a pair. I'm so glad I did! These shoes did have mixed reviews, but I don't regret buying for one second. Totally worth it. Less pain, way more comfort. I have flat feet and needed a shoe with more cushion, that I could stand in for long hours. I have worn these shoes to football games, tailgates, and events where I had to be on my feet for hours. Normally I would wake up the next day with aching feet, but with these shoes my feet were ready to go the next day No pain at all! I will say that they are a little narrow and when I buy again, I will get the wider shoe, but honestly it doesn't bother me to the point of returning them just fyi for next time. I would totally buy this shoe again and would recommend to anyone with flat feet, or anyone who tends to be on their feet a lot. So excited to try other shoes from this company.

I have Charcot-Marie Tooth disease, which affects the feet. I have extremely high arches, hammertoes, Morton's neuromas, neuropathy and osteoarthritis! My podiatrist recommended I try Hokas as I was having alot of pain walking along with balance problems! I purchased my first pair (Bondi 8's ) because of the plush padding and the WIDE option (I need a wide toe box). Sneakers are the only shoes I can wear, and even with my orthotics these felt like I was walking on marshmallows! I immediately purchased 2 more pairs of Bondi's. Then I noticed the reviews for the Gaviota 5's a stability shoe with a really wide toe box so I ordered a pair of them in B width. They are perfect and feel GREAT as well. I am so grateful to find shoes that I can wear without any pain! PS. In my younger days (before I got CMT) I used to run 40 miles a week. I wish I had HOKAS then!!!

I bought these shoes for my mom since she's on her feet most of the day which cause her feet to swell. First day she got them she was able to put her sandals after work which usually don't fit her feet due to the swelling. 10/10 worth the price.

The style of the shoe means that the area around the main arch is very narrow, even though I ordered a WW. My orthotics do not really fit well in them. I am going to have to have another pair of orthotics, especially made for them, but I’m keeping them because it is so difficult to find a pair of shoes wide enough for the ball of my foot, including the bunions.

I use mine mostly for walking, sometimes the gym. I have really bad feet, surgeries, collapsed arches, slight tendonitis, arthritis in the knees. I have a lot going on and just needed a comfortable shoe for taking my morning walks. After numerous attempts with many other brands, Hoka is a winner. If your looking for a shoe that makes you forget your feet are a mess these are the ones. I will buy them again and again.

I wear orthotics and they fit perfectly in the wide. I love the shoes. After 20 years of ugly shoes, I can now wear something nice. I have the sky blue, and they do tend to look dirty easily with the light-colored mesh fabric. I would love to get a pair in 7 wide Belle Water Blue. I really hope you will offer this soon. I would recommend these to anyone with orthotics. They are stable and keep my foot in a good position as well as being cushioned. Great shoes!

Omg! I can't say enough good things about these shoes! They are truly comfortable for all day wear and my feet no longer hurt at the end of the day. I have rather pronounced bunions on both feet and mildly flat arches, so I must have a wide toe box and arch support and these shoes are prefect. I also had a scan done of my feet/stance in a shoe store that sells Hokas and they suggested a pair of insoles to correct some issues. The insoles actually fit in these shoes and the combination is amazing for my feet! I was skeptical at first about the price but now that I've been wearing the shoes everyday for the last couple weeks I have no regrets about the price! You can't put a price on being pain free! (IYKYK) If you have chronic foot pain like I do then you have to give these shoes a try! You won't be sorry!!

The shoe feels great, but honestly, it looks huge looking down and I'm embarrassed to wear it for casual wear anywhere. It has a very strange shape that contributes to the oversize look.
That is too bad.

If I could give these a Zero for style, I would - they are incredibly wide and look like duck feet. I cannot imagine who they would flatter. Comfort was fine, consistent with Hoka. Back they go!

I may order s 2nd pair of this HOKA Gavioto 5. My usual 8.5 M fits well, good toe wiggle room, heel fits my narrow heak. In younger years I wore AA, but as years passed, M with a narrow heel feels best. Shoe is very cushioned, feels good, but my flat arches need my orthotic, and I lace the left to the highest hole to support a weak ankle that foit doctor said needd fusion surgery. To avoid surgery & knee scooter over montjs of recovery, I opted for ankle wraps and super supportive shoes with deep heal cup footbed, and mid foot support for over pronating feet.I also wear graduated compression knee high hosiery or sport socks.

Morton's neuroma issue solved with wide footbed and super comfortable cushioned soles. At 67 years old and taking 3 to 4 mile walks most days, these are perfect. Fit seems a bit larger than other size 9 shoes and boots but fits orthotics well.

I first saw someone wear Hokas in the gym about 3 years ago, and we called them moon shoes. Well, 3 years later almost everyone I know in my profession (RN) is wearing them and swears by them. Fast forward to trying them on at a local race expo because my go-to running shoe changed their construction..and..I was hooked. (Hoka'd if you will) My knees, ankles, and hips all feel amazing after a run. I'm def a convert.

I have an illness that compromises my balance. These shoes are surprisingly helpful. Initially they were very uncomfortable but after a few days, they felt fine. These are not your grandmother's walking shoe yet I am a grandmother and really like them.

The fit and size were perfect. Unfortunately, this style has a negative or neutral heel which is not good for my Achilles tendonitis so I had to return them.

First, what I like. The stability in the heel area is better than previous versions.
They are much wider. Not my preference, but I can live with that. They also seem longer. What I really don't like is the excessive cushioning. They are cushioned more like the Bondi and for me, it feels like you're walking on marshmallows. It creates instability and causes your foot/toes to work harder.
