The Gaviota 5 Shoes offer a winning combination of comfort and support for various activities. Although the 5 appears to be significantly different than the 4 so 4 lovers may not agree. The Gaviota 5 has exceptional cushioning, a reliable heel counter, and a roomy toe box that stand out as major positives. However, individuals needing robust arch support might find them lacking in this area.
The cushioning in these shoes is top-notch, providing excellent shock absorption for both low-impact walks and high-intensity workouts. The heel counter support ensures a secure fit, preventing slipping and reducing the risk of discomfort around the heel. The generous toe box width is a bonus for those with wider feet, offering a comfortable fit during extended wear.
On the flip side, the arch support is a potential weak point. Individuals with higher arches or specific arch-related concerns might find the provided support insufficient. It's worth considering additional arch support inserts if needed. I always add more arch support so no problem for me.
In conclusion, the Gaviota 5 Shoes deliver comfort and stability with their cushioning, low rise, heel counter, and toe box width. While arch support could be improved, these shoes remain a strong choice for those prioritizing comfort during various activities.

If you love everything about the Gaviota 4, you might not like the Gaviota 5. It looks different, fits different and feels different. I don't like the new look at all. The fit is longer and wider.. I wish I had been told to size down cuz they are slipping off my feet. The very soft cushioning makes it feel like you're walking in quicksand and I don't feel the metarocker technology at all like I did with Gaviota 4. I'm so disappointed.

For years I ran comfortably in the Brooks Beast. When they made the shoe softer, I made the move to Hoka and have loved the Gaviota for the last several years. It was lighter than the Beast but provided the support and firmness I needed. With the Gaviota 5, Hoka made the same mistake that Brooks made. A softer shoe that lacks the stability and firmness of its predecessors. Once again, I'm left trying to find a new shoe that will offer the support and firmness I need.

I've worn the Gaviota 2, 3, 4 and now the Gaviota 5. The 5 is a very different shoe. The cushioning has gone up a notch - It provides exceptional shock absorption without be squashy. my knees can feel the difference - no longer the shock to the knee that prior versions or any shoe for that matter caused. Hoka really nailed it with exceptional shock absorption. The stability has also improved significantly from prior versions - First off, it's a lot wider and that keeps my feet from rolling off the edge. I supinate (my feet roll towards the outside of the shoe). Not only does the width provide my foot with stability, but the new H frame prevents my feet from rolling outward (supination). In prior versions there was a J frame that provided stability only for pronators. The H frame supports pronators and supinators. The combination of the wider sole and the H frame provides amazing stability that I"ve not experienced with any other shoe. Thus, my body weight is distributed across the entire sole of the shoe each time I hit the ground. The combination of improved shock absorption and stability makes a huge difference, reducing the shock and stress to my knees and legs beyond what I've experienced with any other shoe. Truly amazing!. The toe box looks wider but functionally the front of my foot remains grounded and it doesn't slide around. So I have no issues with the toe box. Quality wise, I did have an issue - the heal padding at the back of one shoe broke loose and sank to the bottom of the shoe. I returned it to Zappos and received a replacement pair which seems fine. Hoka needs to do a more consistent job of gluing the heal padding in place. If you've worn the Gaviota 3 or 4, this is different but in my opinion much improved shoe. Just takes a little getting used to. Overall I absolutely love the Gaviota 5 for walking, jogging, or standing still.

Ordered a pair of Gaviota 5's because I liked the Gaviota 4 so much, thought with the improvements it was going to be a great shoe. Just could not adjust to the wider toe box. Ended up returning the 5's, ordered another pair of Gaviota 4's instead

Really love the shoes, great for walking, jogging and gym. But awful for driving. The bottoms of the shoes are very broad. The shoes I am wearing are an 11 D, and with my foot up against the footwell and on the gas pedal the distance between the left edge of my shoe and brake pedal is less than half inch. I have to be really cautious when I drive not to accidentally hit the brake when I hit the gas. I learned the hard way. Moral of story, I don’t drive in them.

I've been wearing the Gaviota 4 for the last year and was excited to see the 5's come out, and in a size 15! Even with custom orthotics, my small toes would go numb in the 4's (14 Wide) but that problem is solved with the 5 in a size 15 Wide!
I am a big guy (5'9", 320lbs) with lifelong feet problems (even when I was younger and not heavy) and these shoes make it possible for me to walk. Period.

I have plantar fasciitis and had to stop running for a few months. I bought some Gaviotas for the extra plushness. Since then, I have been back at it, running 3-4 times a week with little to no foot pain. I just got my second pair a little over a year later. Love em.

I supposed that this particular model is designed for running. Well, I used it for only walking and it was the best thing I could've done!
My family and I walked and average of 15 miles for about a week in our vacation. This particular shoe was exactly what I needed for my painful feet.
I enjoyed wearing them everywhere we went.
This is my 1st time trying out this brand but, I can already say that I will buy them again. The comfort and support was a welcome package all in one pair of shoes!
BTW. The star rating is not letting me pick 5 it keeps going back to 2?!

This is my 4th pair. I bought 2 when they were first available, one from a local shoe store, and one from Hoka. That expanded forefoot is perfect for those who don't have narrow feet. However my 3 other pairs were all ordered as wide (2EE) as I've had to do that with all other Hokas. I have 6 pair of Arahis, one pair of Bondis, and 2 of Cliftons. In all those shoes I wear an 11.5 but need the wides, especially in the Arahi 7 as that is a narrow shoe. With this 4th pair of the Gav 5 I decided to experiment by ordering a 12 in the standard width, and, combined with that expanded forefoot, it is perfect. The Bondis, and Cliftons, have too much cushioning for me and don't give me a good sense of balance. The Arahis have a good amount of cushioning while imparting a well balanced, stable feel in all situations. The Gav 5 keeps that balance and stability while adding even more cushioning, perfect for those working long shifts on hard concrete-like surfaces. They may be my favorite shoe of all time. I had initially tried an 11.5 in the standard width but didn't find them comfortable, so I bought the previous pairs in wide (2EE), as I have in all my other Hokas. With this shoe try going up a half size if needed and/or get a wide, for me the move up to a 12 was perfect, great forefoot/toe comfort with a more streamlined mid-foot and heel. Just a fantastic shoe overall for any situation - I'm strictly a walker but can run a little till my knees stop me.

These are very comfortable for my flat feet. I need stability shoes that are medium firm and these seem to be a good choice. I also liked the Arahi for this reason. Hoka Bondi seems too soft and didn’t last me 3 months. I tried those for standing on concrete.

I ordered these Hoka Gaviota 5 sneakers so that my husband would have the shoe in a darker color for the fall season, as his current Gaviota 5 is white, and he prefers the darker colors. He loves the quality and fit of this shoe.

I've been running in Brooks for 12+ years but developed Hallux Rigidus (arthritis in the big toe) and many brands have become painful to run in, and I won't stop running. Additionally, I over-pronate (plus I'm not young anymore, 50+). I remember trying Hokas years ago when everyone seemed to be talking about them and they just didn't feel good. HOWEVER, if I imagine what putting my foot into a cloud feels like then going for a run, this would be it! They are AMAZING. A bit stiff in the toe box which is what I need for less bend, higher in the arch and plush tongue. The only change I made was an upgraded insert from Dr. Scholls for more arch support (flat feet too). I did go up 1/2 size (from the suggested based on my Brooks size) because the bottom of the tongue was hitting a bit too close to the knuckle of my big toe. The 10's fit perfectly and my feet were smiling after my second 6-miler. I'M CONVERTED!!! You got me (just don't F these up- please and thank you)!

I love the way these shoes look and feel but the next time I will NOT buy them directly from the Hoka site. Originally bought a 10.5 because was told they run wide and they were too narrow. I returned the 10.5 and purchased a 10.5 wide instead. I used the Hoka provided Pitney Bowes label for the return and nearly three weeks later I still have not received a refund because Pitney Bowes apparently lost the return. Thank goodness I have all the tracking and delivery information. Long story short, great shoes but I'd recommend buying in a store and not on the websit.

I was very happy with the Graviota but was disappointed in the huge changes the last time I purchased it. I was wearing a wide before but now the toe box is so huge that I had a hard time finding the correct size and width. I had to order and return a couple times. This is the only shoe I wear because I have a foot issue and wear orthotics. I'm going into the 6 month on this pair and they have started squeaking loudly. I didn't have this issue with the previous style of the Graviota. These shoes are very expensive and only last about 6 months. I don't understand why this is the case when they cost so much.

I bought a brand new pair of shoes for almost $200. They arrived with a stain and some shoelace damage. It was a chore to get reach someone to help with this issue. When I did they wanted me to pack up the shoes and ship them back, which I would expect. However I would have to wait for them to receive the shoes in order to get another pair, I'm guessing at least a couple weeks. In the end I decided to keep them because it was too big of hassle to ship them back and wait that long. Hoka should have inspected the shoes that had clearly been sent to someone before and returned. So I guess I bought used shoes instead of new. I do love this model though, super comfortable.

It took a long time to find the HOKA Gaviota 4 as a stable supportive replacement for the beloved Brooks Beast worn for 8 years. Brooks unsuccessfully tried to reinvent the wheel when they changed the support system in their best selling stability shoe. I am sad to say that HOKA has done the same by changing the exceptional J-frame support of the Gaviota 4 to a mushy, sometimes unstable H-frame in the G-5. In addition, believe the other reviewers who say the toe box is twice as big, which adds to the disaster of this shoe by allowing the foot to slip around and causes pain and an unbalanced walk/run. Hoka directs customer to the Arahi as a substitute for the Gaviota 4, but it is a poor substitute for someone who needs the stability and cushion. Arahi is a very aggressive arch support with little padding. If HOKA is listening, please bring back the Gaviota 4 which was the both of best worlds - perfect support/stability with perfect cushioning.

I ordered this style shoes hoping that they would work for me on an upcoming trip in which I am going to do a fair amount of walking in different terraines. Overall the shoes run big and they don't have much cushion on the bottom.

The new design, touted as a "wider, more accommodating fit" is a flop. The forefoot area is now so wide that my feet slide side to side. The shoe feels loose. I wish it came in narrow. After 4 hours of wear, my heal, which is now the pivot point for the side to side yaw, is sore.

I've been a longtime buyer of the Gaviota. The 5 isn't as supportive as previous model. If you need the extra support, I'm not sure this is the right shoe for you. The width seems more narrow. Sizing I think is a little small.
