The handles are too short. I'm sad because it could be a great bag.

It could have been so good. The handles were sewn on wrong. I sent it back.

Nice bag, great quality, but the color is definitely more brown than gray. Does not look the same as the picture.

It's ok I had to wait to long to get it.. not good material all crinkled up.. not as heavy as I expected

This is a nice sized bag. I bought the large, in Navy. It has a lovely green and blue plaid lining, and an internal zip pocket. Not a big fan of the wax canvas, but I liked the muted navy and gray colors, which is why I bought it. It's lightweight. The fabric is actually thinner and more scrunchable than I expected. I was expecting sturdy, thick canvas, but I like that it's lighter, so that is okay. I will be returning this bag for it's biggest flaw- the handles are too short to toss over your shoulder to carry. They are great if you plan to hold in your hand to carry, but too short to wear over your shoulder.

I loved the size of this tote, but when it arrived, I immediately saw that the handles are short! If I even used half the capacity if the bag, the tiny straps would barely fit around my shoulder, with the bag crammed under my arm. It seems the short handles are made for carrying, but I wouldn't be able to carry that bag filled with stuff for very long. Cute bag. Poor design. I'm returning it.

When looking at the pictures of the model holding the medium bag she has it on her arm. The handle is way too short for that option. The canvas is thick and sturdy.

Zipper + waxed canvas = good for inclement weather. Check. Inclement weather = rather have my hands in my pockets and the bag over my shoulder, But the medium bag doesn't do that well. Fail. Short handle, with no longer handle option? I don't believe the photo of the model with it slung over her shoulder is representative of what is actually sold. I've got a normal body mass, not overweight, not obese, and it just goes over the shoulder (and slips off given the tight fit). Perhaps she is underweight, but it is more likely that the medium annotation in the photo is wrong and the bag is actually a large. The interior is fine (since some reviews dislike it). LL Bean's heritage is outdoor activities, and included hunting, even though the current marketing is more suburban focused (and perhaps PC-centric).

I have written at least four rave reviews about the Insulated Waxed Canvas Tote and based on my experiences, I ordered the (non-insulated) Waxed Canvas Tote back in February, 2018. Due to back orders, I just received it today. The description of both totes is of 8 oz Waxed Canvas but there is no comparison. The Insulated Tote canvas front pocket demonstrates the difference in weave and weight. The first is heavy, stiff waxed TWILL canvas; the regular Tote is flimsy canvas of a different, lighter weave. The thickness and stiffness has nothing to do with the insulated portion, simply a much lighter, floppy fabric. I am bummed, having purchased three of the Waxed Canvas totes and three of the Insulated Totes. I have enough floppy and often free bags to last forever and this Waxed Canvas tote is only slightly heavier duty than what I already have. Too bad I waited so long to find out the difference between the Insulated Waxed Canvas Tote and this version. PS: The camo lining is just fine for this style of tote.

Received the Medium Waxed Canvas Tote, and upon opening the box, I was delighted. Until I opened the bag itself. The lining is camo, which somehow, after reading dozens of descriptions of Bean totes, I missed. After looking up the item online again, I do see that it does say that the lining is a playful camo, so the fault is mine. Even though I am married to an avid hunter, with plenty of mounted game in our home, I do not care for this lining one bit. In our home, camo only comes out when necessary :) A muted plaid would be much more pleasing! Still love the bag.

I bought the gray/ blue bag, seemed ok when I opened it although the color is darker than the photo represents. I have lots of Bean bags and was looking forward to using the pockets and key lanyard on this one. Then I opened the bag - I agree with the other reviewers, the camo lining is pretty ugly. The green/ yellow pattern also has nothing to do with the gray/ blue bag. I could see using the fabric on the tan and green bag but why all of them? Why not a nice plaid? I just put it away for a couple days and went to use it again. Opened the bag, saw the lining... nope can't do it. It's going back. I gave it three stars as it seems like a nice quality bag. It is well made but I do not like the looks of it.

Sturdy construction. Appearance nothing to crow about. Waxed fabric inconsistencies were not extensive, but the buyer should not expect a flawless coloration. The exterior of the Burgundy/Navy is a very dark purple burgundy, not a red burgundy. The interior lining is a bold green/brown camouflage, and is neither attractive, with this color (Burgundy/Navy) combination, nor anything I prefer. Given the good construction, it was worth the discounted (coupon) price. I would not pay the full price. I am rarely disappointed with LLBean products, but this is being returned.

I returned this bag . I liked the color and the size of this bag but it had what looked to be creases of faded out color . I did not think it was worth the price I paid for it . I prefer the more sturdy boat bags .

Great quality for the first sight. But in the second day of using the rain was starting and I got small dirty spots on the bag. I've cleaned it with my hand and water only and all wax has disappeared from this area. The bag looks lousy now.

I returned it because the color was not as pictured in real life.

I loved it...but my arms didn't!! If you could have just made the handles a LITTLE longer, I would have been perfectly satisfied! Don't you test these out on real women? If not, you should!!

Not great quality. Would go with one of the basic canvas ones instead.

I love the colors and it is clearly sturdily made, but the faux scuff marks all over the bag made it look worn in an unpleasant way. Also, I found it surprisingly heavy....even when empty.

My tote arrived today and it looks like I purchased a used, not new, item. It looks like it has dust or dirt blotches on it, which upon closer inspection are scratches. It is not "abrasion resistant" as advertised and the exterior is going to scratch easily. I like the interior very much and it is overall solidly constructed. But the exterior of mine is not "eye catching" as stated in the description. Quite disappointing.

I read the reviews on this bag and saw that people complained that the straps were too short to fit over their shoulder but those complaints were for the medium sized one. I bought a large size but it wouldn't fit over my shoulder! I could force it on my shoulder but it fits way too tight and wouldn't have worked over a jacket. I expected it to have straps that fit like the woman in the photo. That woman must be unusually petite because I am an average size woman and it doesn't fit like that. My other complaint is that it's so flimsy it won't stand open when you're packing it. It also was kind of a dark unattractive color. I returned it. I wish they would make a bag like this with longer shoulder straps and a little less flimsy.

I ordered the large black and navy bag. It was huge. I must not have read the measurement correctly. That part was my fault. The black part of the bag, actually, the entire bag looked like it had dust all over it. At first I tried to brush it off, but then realized that was the coloring. It looked awful. However, it was too late to send it back. Maybe another color would be better?The only navy on the bag were the straps, but you coulld scarcely distinguish them being navy.I am very disappointed.

I just received my bag. While it is constructed nicely I'm big on the small details. Mine arrived and there are small light colored areas on it. And the cherry on top, the leather LLBean patch is sewn on crooked. Ahhh! Super disappointed, expected more from LLBean.

the pictures don't show it but the interior of the bag is camouflage!! (which is not playful). also, note the enormous size jump from medium to large. otherwise, a sturdy and functional bag. up to you, but seriously, it's A LOT of camouflage.

Material was thin.not heavy canvas.waxed appeared more like wet oil.

I realize because of the waxed canvas they are supposed to scuff and such. BUT to take it out of the box on delivery and have it look like it has been trampled and used already is totally unacceptable. Especially for a gift.
