Got this for my 10 year old who needs a good size bag that can also hold a laptop due to the hybrid learning schedule this year. It was more $ than I wanted to spend, but I think it will be worth it. It fits all is many required school supplies.
The color is beautiful, light blue and turquoise, and he doesn't think it too feminine. I wish though, that LL. Bean's color options were less gender specific for their bags--its often either very dark for boys and bright purple for girls.

There's no storm flap over the outside zippers, which comes across like a cheap, cost-cutting measure. If I didn't need the pack as soon as I got it, I probably would have returned. It'll do.

Strap broke within a week. I think it was a defective one, but I've never had that happen with an llbean backpack before. I've had them since I was a kid. Exchange was simple at the store. We will see how this one lasts!

Seems overpriced compared to what you get from other high end companies for the same money. Thin material and the water bottle holders are very limited. As a family we spend a lot at ll bean, mostly satisfied. My high schooler will put this to the test as well as the warranty.

My son really likes the design of this backpack better then the other school backpacks. I was hoping this would work well for him. I don't think this is made well enough to be a school backpack. It's already coming apart at the top of the strap. My son is in 7th grade and it barely holds all of his things. He hasn't even tried to bring his laptop home from school yet.

I don't even know what to do with all the straps. They are everywhere. Not a fan. Not the LL Bean quality I remember. Disappointed

Meh it's a good backpack but it's definitely not up to LL Bean's usual quality and standards. Fabric quality is only ok. Lining is bright turquoise which is garish against the black outer fabric. It's kinda small too. I miss the llbean quad pack and the older, better models. It's fine for now.

Very disappointing! My daughter wanted something mature looking, besides the same Deluxe Backpack she's had for years. We thought this would be an upgrade in style. It is but it's WAY too small, not large enough for an older middle schooler or high schooler. Isn't large enough to hold a 2 inch binder, a few notebooks, a laptop, lunch box and gym clothes. She will certainly not be able to use this through high school or college. Will be handing down to my 4th grader who's 60 pounds, 55 inches tall but only brings a binder and lunch box to school.

I bought this backpack to replace an older model I had for work. I don't recall the name of the other backpack, but it had a zippered bottom compartment for shoes and gym clothes, which I loved. However, that model isn't made any more, so I chose this.
As others have noted, the pockets for water bottles, which looked like a great addition to me, are very small. Only the slimmest bottles will fit. The laptop compartment's padding is meager, and the front zipper pocket, where I usually throw my wallet and keys, is a black hole. There's no key clip, so I often have to dig.
It's fine, just not the thoughtfully-designed and incredibly useful bag I've come to expect from L.L.Bean. C'mon, you can do better than this!

We really like this pack but why is there only one available color that is more on the girly side. Are you going to get more colors for this?

I generally like this backpack. However, I miss having a clip for my keys. I also wish it had a few more compartments like my older LLBean backpack does. One of the zippered pockets is slightly annoying because it feels like I would need a young child with thinner arms to help me retrieve objects from the bottom of the pocket.

Colors are nice, fabric seems sturdy... but I preferred the older versions with a single giant compartment over the multiple subdivided ones. Even worse, the water bottle pockets are not actually large enough for a 1 qt Nalgene. Returned.

I bought the Comfort Carry Laptop Pack, 30L because I was so satisfied with its predecessor (by whatever name). This "version," however, is satisfactory for its purpose, but the amount of space available inside (for both the laptop and other stuff) is decidedly less than what I had before. Moreover, the materials seem to be a lower-grade quality (e.g., the hand-strap between the shoulder straps). The amount of padding around the laptop has been reduced (a more serious "step down"). All in all, I'd probably buy it again, but the next time around, my expectations would be a cut loweer than they were this time. I was expecting a closer "copy" of what I had originally. I bought another because the inside lining (bottom of main compartment) was deteriorating/disintegrating from time and wear. I'd rate this version "adequate," serviceable, but a cut below my idea of "LL Bean" quality. Thanks for asking. [This review is for internal, "quality control" purposes only.]

I had a very similar version of this backpack that I purchased from LL Bean years ago, and it served me well on many adventures. I purchased this one to replace it and have been disappointed to see the decrease in quality. The fabric is different, and seems more plastic-y than the previous cloth. This version still has the handy sunglass/phone pouch, but it is lacking the soft fabric lining of its predecessor. There are fewer storage pockets and no zipper pulls. I'm a bit disappointed, though it still seems like a solid backpack. We will see if it stands the test of time.

I was looking for a bag that could be loaded up for trips to the office and for city biking. This backpack is close to what I was looking for, but it has design elements that make it next to impossible for a short lady to use. The shoulder straps are set wide wider than any backpack I've had in my life, so to keep it on, the sternum strap is necessary for all use. Unfortunately, just like a car seatbelt that doesn't adjust, the sternum strap hits in my neck. I realized prior to making the purchase that this bag had slightly different dimensions than my previous bag, but I didn't think it would have such an impact.

Normally I love L.L. Bean backpacks. I trust their quality and design. I bought this backpack for my daughter and two weeks into the school year the zipper fell off, the webbing on the front started to fall off on one side, the seem started to rip. I was highly disappointed in the quality of this L.L. Bean pack. I will give five stars to customer service as they immediately sent out a new pack when I called to complain the only problem was the color that my daughter originally all ordered was sold out.

Really wanted to like this backpack, but the shoulder straps are basically just hard plastic with very little padding. After walking for 10 minutes with just my laptop and a few small items inside, the straps were digging into my shoulders! I'd hate to be a student carrying around heavy books with this backpack.

So when did LLBean start putting this weird turquoise liner in all of their bookbags? I ordered one for myself and one for my son different styles and they both came with this bright color turquoise interior lining....I could live with it on mine even though it doesn't match the mint green and grey exterior at all for but for a guy's backpack having a bright turquoise interior is not ideal. Are all the backpacks like this now as our old ones that we have had for years did not have this color on the inside.

My high schooler wanted to be able to keep this bag based on its looks and organization, but the straps are terrible. They need to be more of a J shape and instead are fairly straight. Without the chest clip they fit fairly wide. With it clipped, the straps are pulled in so that they are no longer flat against your body but instead the inner edge is digging in while the outer edge is pivoted away from you. Bizarre design. Tried it on three household members ranging from 5 foot 2 to 5 foot 8, male and female, all with fairly broad shoulders. It does not work for any of us.

Over the past two decades or so, I have bought several backpacks for my children as well as for myself. These backpacks handled with ease everything my children from kindergarten through college took them through. This year I bought a replacement one for one my sons and I compared it to another LL Bean backpack I had bought a couple of years ago. The new backpack's zippers look flimsy, the laptop storage is inadequately buffered and the backpack just feels and looks cheap. By the way, I noticed the same decline in quality elsewhere. About a decade ago, I bought a Norwegian wool sweater from LLBean. It was superb in quality and design. It literally lasted a decade and i still wear it at times. However, I bought the exact same sweater some time ago; it was thinner and lighter and the sleeves became too loose in no time. It simply is not as warm as its previous iteration.

The large front zipper is way too short making it difficult to impossible to reach the inside compartments. The material is thin. The inside color clashes with the outside material. I gave it a 2 because customer service was pleasant and took it back for a full refund.
Many years ago, I bought the North Ridge backpack, closest to this backpack, and it was perfect until the zippers naturally wore out.

Very disappointed. Was looking to replace my LL Bean Quad backpack and this was the closest thing. Computer sleeve was poorly modeled and the padding weak. Not as many accessory compartments. Built more for middle-schoolers than adults. Why the Quad was discontinued will remain a mystery to me.

I had a LL BEAN backpack that I'd carried for nearly ten years start to break down with normal wear and tear. It was the best backpack I'd ever had. I scoured the site and this one is the only one I could find that was remotely similar.
The front pocket area doesn't zip open far enough, making it impossible to find anything in the smaller pockets in anything other than blinding daylight. The smaller pockets are way too deep and are basically just huge pouches - terrible any sort of organization. The bag itself doesn't seem to good very much.
The last backpack I had from this company has so many unique storage pockets on the outside, plus awesome
internal organizational clips and pockets - and it was a school backpack. Nothing the offered now is even remotely similar.
