Customer Reviews New Balance Fuel Cell 996v5

I really loved these shoes for indoor pickleball. Great support, grip, lightweight, super comfortable. I wore them twice and noticed my knee pain did not recur. The problem was the inside collar near the last lace hole. It's super stiff and rubbed against my inner ankles and left me bruised. I like it snug against my ankle to keep me from rolling/twisting my ankle because of the lateral movements. It might work for someone else's ankles. I suggest you put them on inside your house and try some lateral moves to see if that part of the collar hits your ankle. Such a bummer because they were great shoes otherwise.

These feel very flat and unresponsive and the biggest problem is that my foot slides forward while playing all the time. I played at 2:30 and it's 7 hours later and my toes still hurt from having slid to the front of the shoe in a sprint and stop. I use my own insoles for some better arch support and even that and a change of lacing doesn't stop the foot from siding forward. Very disappointing for something so expensive. They're a nice looking shoe and if you're not a big runner on the court, they might work for you.

I received the women's size so that were far too small

Prime issue is that there's no arch support. My feet pronate so it's very important to have good support in the arches.

I could not give this a full and through review. I sized up 1/2 size as suggested and still too short. The wide width seemed true to size. I returned and vanity is preventing me from ordering a bigger size. I've never worn size 9.5 shoes in my life!

I play tennis 4-5x/week. I had been devoted to the 996v4, probably had 20+ pairs in all different colors. This shoe is a SAD, SAD replacement for the 996v4. The shoe feels smooshy laterally. One thing I loved about the old version was how connected to the ground I felt. These ones feel much higher off the ground. The toe box feels huge and clunky. BLEGH. I will not be buying more of these shoes - sad to have to leave NB for another option, the company typically makes great products, but WOW these shoes are a disappointment.

Great for tennis. Once I started wearing proper court tennis shoes, no knee pain.

I felt like my foot was suffocating from all the plastic involved in the construction of the shoe.

These fit perfectly but the leather Around the ankle area was too firm and irritating to my bony ankles. I returned for this reason

Horribly uncomfortable. Tried 3 different NB shoes and none of them felt good on my feet.

I tried several different brands of tennis shoes in a wide width, but none were wide enough. I was told new balance would be wider but my toes were squished
