These are so great. I returned the Mafate 4 and I really like the shoe. Great on fairly narrow/technical stuff where the Mafate felt like it would be an ankle twist

I like the snappiness of the carbon plate. And the cushioning is pretty much perfect for responsiveness and softness.

Love this shoe, but HOKA isn't making it anymore. Does HOKA make a shoe that fits and feels like this one?

I needed a shoe with a generous toe box for the trail and also a stiff sole in the toe area so that my toes don't roll so much. These shoes fit the bill. I'm very happy with him and they're surprisingly light...they're VERY light.
The sole is wide and stable. I had a pair of orthotic inserts custom made for my trail shows yhat were very pricey, but I find that with these shoes I don't need the custom orthotics. So the high price tag turns out to be pretty cheap. For me.

I've been looking for a true trail shoe that also feels fast for either speed work or race day and I finally found it! I enjoyed the original Tecton X but found the upper was a bit loose and allowed my foot too much movement. The X2 upper is amazing and absolutely solved that problem! Well done Hoka! The Tecton X2 has definitely become my go-to when I want to pick up the pace on the trails.

I rotate two pairs of shoes for my daily run. I recently picked up a pair of the Tectonic X 2 to replace a failed experiment with a Topo. Absolutely the best shoe I've had in the past 5 years (trail shoes as off pavement running is 75% of my miles). It really did encourage me to run faster and my average pace is quicker wearing this shoe. I picked up a second pair as the price was good and since they're being replaced. That pair will get placed into my shoe rotation when the current Hoka Speedgoat gets worn out.

These are my go-to trail shoes! They are lightweight, providing cushioning and comfort expected from a Hoka, while remaining responsive and quick. I have a pair of Speedgoat 5's, which are also a great shoe, but I feel like the upper holds it form better on the Tecton X 2 while being lighter and more responsive than the Speedgoat.
They are super grippy too and never had an issue with lack of confidence on the trails in these.

Third pair of this model. This time on sale (in advance of Tecton X 3 release). They work well for me. The inside liner and cushion of the heel area have worn through in a couple spots, and outer heels of outsole are nearly down to midsole after 200+ miles. 152 lbs, mostly crushed limestone trails. Used for both faster training and racing. In between US 9.5 and 10 for length; generous width in forefoot in US 9.5I wear thin socks and prefer fit on the snug side so I've gone with 9.5 without issues. The rocker feel is less pronounced now compared to new but they still have some more miles in them if I want to push it.

I've been using the V1's and love(d) them- I've run through 2.5 pairs so far and have another new pair in my stock pile. These shoes really fit my mid-sized foot well and they've been my favorite road (1/3) to trail (2/3) shoe to date. I tried other Hokas but these feel good on my feet and fast. I'd highly recommend trying before buying if possible. I wear the more worn out ones for backpack trips as well. The V2's- I like them even better, BUT, as people say the toe box is definitely much tighter/more snug, depending on your foot. My toes float in the V1's a little (not problematic and actually preferred for hiking vs. trail runs) but are pretty snug in the V2's. I alternate between the 1's and 2's, and wear toe socks in either if I'm going over 10 miles- although I usually top out at 10 most days. I almost sized up to 11 for the V2's- but it was more an issue of width vs. length so stuck with the 10.5's.

I'm 6'3"/200 lbs and most squishy hokas (clifton) cause me foot issues. The foam in the Tecton X2 is a little firm but still provides good cushion. I do put superfeet green insoles in them, and I think this inhibits the function of the shoe a bit. Side note:the superfeet have eliminated my heel/plantar fasciitis problem. The tecton sole provides good traction on gravel roads (haven't tried them on trails with mud yet). Less traction than speedgoats, but more than Skyline Float X (I use these tanks for running, but mainly hiking). I'll either buy another pair of tectons for my next shoe, or give the Skyward a try.

This shoe fits, feels, and wears throughout the day better than any shoe I have ever purchased. I suffer from neuropathy and this shoe has the arch support and cushion my feet require. The light weight is also a bonus.

First I am not sure why I saw so many reviews about people complaining twisting anklesI haven't found anything about this shoe that would lead to an ankle injury. Second this is an impressing shoes traction is amazing, fits like a glove and is comfortable after hours on the foot. One of the best Hoka's I've ever purchased.

For less technical and less muddy runs these runners shine. Lugs not quite deep enough for gnarly stuff (I switch to Mafates or Speedgoats). Not fast enough to appreciate the carbon plates for speed. Do appreciate them for foot protection. Put a plate (any kind of plate) in a Mafate and it would be the perfect trail runner.
Give these runners a chance to break in (10 or so miles). Just ran a 25k in them with no foot issues. Not sold on using them in Ultra distance races (yet).

For less technical running with good traction these runners shine. Do not have the grip of the Speedgoats or Mafates. But they do have carbon plates. I am not fast but I like the plates for foot protection. The perfect Hoka would be a Mafate/Speedgoat with carbon (any) plates.
Still love these shoes. Have big (size 14) feet. These shoes break in pretty quick. Do make me feel fast and have set several PR's in them.

One of the small things, but very important to me, is that the shoelaces do not come untied. I don't have to double tie them. So nice overall, they have a great fit in the rock plate works perfectly on a technical trail.

I literally ran the treads off the first edition of this shoe and was concerned when I first read about planned changes for V2.
Shockingly, V2 is even better, which is hard to imagine being possible. This shoe is beyond perfect. Quality is amazing! Made for countless trail miles!

Great show that did the job. I wore it for a few short runs before I took it out for a 100k race and it was awesome. I would absolutely look into getting this shoe if you're looking at going out and putting some effort into a long run.

I use the Tecton x2 to go on mixed terrain. It's an amazing shoe and I love the toe box. The shoe is incredibly light and the cushion is amazing. I could run in this shoe all day.
