I have been wearing Birkenstock shoes for decades, first in Europe, than in the US. The Mayari Oiled Leather (Tobacco Brown) I received today from Zappos came in a clear, generic plastic bag inside a Zappos polymailer. That was the first red flag, as Birkenstock shoes come in Birkenstock boxes, never buckled, and with proper paperwork and tags inside their boxes. They were also already fully buckled and set to the smallest width, which left ugly marks on the straps that would be seen at any other settings. Finally, and by far the most confusing bit, was the size. I have always worn the 38 and I just tried this shoe at a local store this week (just in a different color). The shoes I received state that they are the size 38, but they are tiny. At least a size shorter and narrower, with straps so small they were hurting my big toe on their largest setting. Needless to say, they're going back. I contacted customer service (via chat) to inquire about whether it's possible these shoes were fake. The first representative was not particularly interested in helping and kept trying to assure me that shoes sometimes get shipped in bag, and the disconnected chat when I wanted reassurance that I'm paying $130 for a pair of genuine Birkenstock sandals. The second customer service representative was helpful and I am giving Zappos a second chance. I'll report back when the second pair arrives.

I wear US size 7.5, Regular width footwear. I got my Birkenstocks to be size 37 Regular width which fits perfectly. Note: I did try 38, but it was way too large, which I had to exchange for a 37 Regular.

I got the black oiled leather in size 38 reg width which is my normal size in Birkenstocks even though I wear a size 8 shoe, my feet are narrow in the heel but I need for my toes to spread out and these fit perfectly. I was worried about the toe strap as I had surgery on my right big toe and it is 1/2" smaller than the left and I can no longer wear sandals with a strap between my toes, but because the leather is so soft and is curved just the right way, they do not hurt my toe. Very stylish for Birks and I'm excited to wear them!!!

This is my eighth pair of Birkenstock Mayari. If you get the right size (sometimes a challenge), I honestly do not see how they can not be comfortable for you right out of the box. The straps are adjustable, the toe-loop is soft, and there's plenty of room everywhere. About the size...according to Birkenstock, I should wear a 38 EU which they say is equal to my usual US size of 7-7.5. I got a 38 once, enjoyed wearing it well enough, but then subsequently ordered a 37 and found that it fit me much better. Seven pairs later, I'm sticking with this major sandal success!!

The sandals showed up broken. I opened the box and the left sandal toe strap as completely broken. A simple glance inside the box before mailing would have solved that. Returning and quite disappointed.

I’ve been wearing Birks for over 20 years and have always gotten this style-Mayari. This time, the straps were very stiff and the edges kind of harsh rubbing on my foot. Also the toe loop is very small. This is the first time this happened. I reached out to Birkenstock and they told me to put leather softener on the straps which I did and this so helping with the stiffness and for the toe loop I pushed a wine bottle neck into the loop to stretch it out and this worked well. I am still a happy Birk wearer.

I ordered the 7-7.5 which is a 38 in Birkenstock but they were too long. Also I was very disappointed in the color. The picture shows a beautiful leather honey brown (called tobacco) but in reality it's much more like a taupe color. I returned these.

Fit and size were good - my foot is on the wide side and it feels very comfortable. However, the tobacco oiled leather is misrepresented in the photos. What I got was more like a taupe/gray and it doesn’t look oiled.

I’m very unhappy with the delivery. I ordered the Mayari Oiled leather sandals. The box I received did not come with a packing slip, paperwork, or even a genuine Birkenstock shoe box. They do not look like the oiled leather, but look like the Bikro flor material and I have no way to verify the authenticity. The oiled leather are about $40 more than the Birmingham-flor. This feel so unprofessional. I feel scammed.

I have a pair of black ones like this, but love the fudge brown finish on these Birkenstock. They are comfortable from first wearing them…

I ordered these for my sister. She usually wears a size 9 in most shoes, but we had to return the 9/9.5 for an 8/8.5 because they were too big. The size 8/8.5 were a perfect fit. I will say though that I too wear a size 9 and the 8/8.5 were too small for me. I have longer toes than she does, so I would also keep that in mind when ordering these shoes. She loves the color and the comfort of these shoes. I may have to order myself a pair now!!

Love love love these birks. I bought them just a week before a trip, and only wore them for a few days prior. I was worried they would need more breaking in, but they felt great while on my trip! The arch support and heel cup are the best I've had in any sandal. I have EDS so I have extremely unstable ankle joints, and these shoes provided the arch support I needed to keep my ankles sturdy!! Highly recommend for other EDSers or anyone who needs good arch support

The fit and size were great. The product is excellent. Zappos’ ability to fill the order correctly? Well, not so awesome. Actually, it seems weird doing a review on a shoe I didn’t receive. I did not receive the sandals in the picture. Instead, I received a light grey suede. While they are not bad, they are not what I put my money down to buy. Am I going to buy another pair? Unlikely. Am I going to return these? No, I was leaving on vacation with whatever I got the next day. I am grateful for the $20 credit they gave me, but it doesn’t change my sandals. I guess I will have to like light grey suede.

These sandals are cute, but the toe strap is very uncomfortable to me so I’m returning them. My real criticism is for how they arrived: in an Amazon bag, no box, and from the look of the soles, obviously worn. This has happened to me more than once recently. Zappos is just not the same company I knew and loved since Amazon took them over. Very sad.

They would be great if they were what I ordered. I ordered Mayari Tobacco Oiled Leather. I got a taupe suede. Return doesn’t help when they are what you are taking on a trip in two days. Oh, well. Disappointing.

Even though I wear a size 7, Birkenstock's size 37 fit me perfectly, and the Mayari is my favorite style. This blue was exactly what I was looking for.

I’m a 7.5 and got both 37 and 38 to try out. While the 38 is a little too long, the 37 is too narrow for my feet so I went with 38.

My little toe on my right foot curls under to the point that I walk on it which is very painful. I'm avoiding surgery at the moment and decided to try these birks- they are AMAZING! Right out of the box my toe felt supports and comfortable. The straps that "hold" your big toe in place lead to less toe gripping than the Arizonas (which I've worn for 30 years and did love- but hurt my toe). These act more like a flip flop, but with lots of support and comfort. LOVE these! The tobacco color is a nice neutral shade.

I have owned Birkenstock sandals for 40+ years. I wanted to love these sandals. Unfortunately, the leather was very stiff, hurting these aging feet.

The toe strap is so tight, I cannot make these work. I've worn them in the past and really liked them, but I feel like my big toe is being strangled in these.

This shoe in Tobacco color is NOT AT ALL like it’s pictured!! It’s a gross anemic taupe color and I am so disappointed at the mid-representation. My favorite shoes by far, but NOT in this color!

I have never purchased Birkenstocks previously. When I saw them on others, they always looked comfortable. I liked this style, so I thought I would try a pair. They were so difficult to put on! I adjusted the straps but they felt really tight, stiff and there was no "give." They were the strangest pair of shoes I have ever tried. I have read other reviews that indicated you must wear them for a few days to have them adjust to your feet. To me, if a shoe is not immediately easy to wear and fits well, it goes back. So back they go.
