As Bean says in the description, this is a very warm medium weight base layer. Save it for when you'll be standing around a lot or when it's really cold. I'm going to try it as a base layer skiing to help with those cold chairlift rides... Fits true to size. Doesn't shrink when washed in accordance with instructions.

I wish this came in women's sizes. I used to buy it in women's but the men's shirt is still the same warm fabric. I live in this all winter.

I was prepared to dislike this product based on high cost and some review comments online. Final thoughts: love the warmth but agree with earlier reviews that found neck could fit better.

This was a gift for my father-in-law as he is older and gets cold much easier these days. He loved the set so much he wore it as pajamas for days in a row.

Wonderful product. Easy to launder. Very warm. Very comfortable. Just needs a snugger neck opening.

This item shrunk more than I expected after my first, regular machine wash. It is, however, as warm and comfortable as advertised. Probably look at the next bigger size next time; I would order again.

I liked it mainly because it wasn't black or gray. My husband liked it because they kept warm.

With the sub-zero temps I welcomed this shirt. It kept me warm & comfortable as a base layer. A Bean Chamois Shirt & a Midweight Down Jacket, I was all set. This is the 2nd Canadian shirt I've purchased from Bean. The Jersey Type Henley shirt also made in Canada, is very similar, but in my opinion WARMER. (My main reason for a 4 Star Review )However, I like numerous things about both varieties : 1 Sizing appears better than other Bean Shirts made elsewhere 2 Workmanship is great, 3 Wool blend isn't itchy against your skin 4 Not too heavy, but just enough for warmth, 5 Both versions look great no matter how you choose to wear them. 6 They're sold by Bean & Guaranteed by Bean.

Very comfortable. Kept me warm. Purchased for a December/January trip to Switzerland and Germany. Worked great in the cold weather and snow. Price is only reason did not give a 5 star rating. Expensive compared to competitors, but keeps you warm.

Amazing product, the L.L. Bean standard is set high and this well made product keeps you very warm without the bulk of typical double layer clothes. Well done!

This is a fine piece of clothing except for one problem. The material on the outside layer that contains wool wraps over the collar which brings the wool into contact with your neck. I do have a problem tolerating wool and found this very irritating to my skin.

The extra wide collar is annoyingly awkward. Others mentioned it in the reviews but I ignored it.

Large is Nice and snug. Fits well in the body and warm. The photo was deceptive however. The neck appears to be a standard crew style but is actually much too large. When worn it's about an 8" diameter opening that hangs down nearly to my sternum so I can't wear as an outer layer.

One fit perfectly, the neck opening is too large on the other?

While the fit is true to size, the neckline opening is far too large to adequately keep someone warm. It needs to be more like a t-shirt opening that fits closer to the neck.

This underwear is well made as we expect from L L Bean. My problem was the coarse, unpleasant feeling against the skin. I admit as an old redhead, my skin is sensitive, but that is why I bought these cotton on the inside to begin with. Didn't work, will give them to the thrift store.

I have several of these shirts that I bought 20 years ago, great to work in and even sleep in.However the new shirt is not the two layers of old. The new is much thinner and what looks like the layers are pressed together. Feels cheap. Nothing special about the new ,might as well just wear a T-shirt.

Although I wanted to like these I couldn't make it so... Ultimately, the wool effect was felt and made them just uncomfortable enough that I couldn't justify keeping them... especially around the neckline where the wool fabric wraps around and is directly on your skin... also the neck opening is rather large. I imagine if you are not sensitive to wool, they would be just right as they have a nice heavy weight feel to them. Too bad but they are going back.

This is extremely rough and scratchy. The inner cotton layer is not soft like Duofold of yesteryears.
