I have a bunion on my right foot and have struggled to find comfortable shoes. Running store recommended Altra and I bought my first pair immediately for daily sneakers. The wide toe box was perfect! Once I knew my proper shoe size, went online to find a perfect hiking shoe. Ordered the one with the most cushion and just took them for a week of hiking in Montana. Previous shoes left my feet sore after one long hike and always prevented me from doing additional hikes throughout the week. These were perfect and I wasn't sore or uncomfortable. Super pleased!! Will definitely purchase Altra hiking again when it's time to replace these.

I love the shoes, this is my second pair. But when I walk my feet swing close to each other so I tie the lace's through all of the holes to keep the tops snug. The laces are too short to accommodate this. Also, though these shoes are much snugger than my Alta trail runners, if you wear them for awhile the padding compresses and allows a bit more room.

I love these shoes! I've purchased a variety of Altras over the last two years, and these ones are my favorite. Perfect comfort. Made well. I really beat these up off-roading. I'm back for more!

I see that these shoes have some 1-3 star reviews, but I relu cannot understand why. These are the nicest, most comfortable and durable shoes I've owned. Only recommendation would to have longer laces.

Like walking on pillows! These shoes are fabulous but on the spendy side. Love the wide footbed of Altra. I think they could have more color options but this red is better in person than online.

I have a painful callus over my right 5th metatarsal head. I figured out it was caused by the narrow toe box shoes I was wearing. Found Altra searching for wide toe box shoes. I picked the Olympus 5 GTX because it has the original Altra footprint, maximum cushioning, 33mm stack and is a waterproof Gortex. I walk on the beach and trails, and in the rain - the Gortex upper keeps the sand and water out. The shoes are super comfortable with great stability, and my painful callus is much better and continuing to improve. I got the Women's size 8.5. I measured my foot and used Altra's size chart. The shoes fit perfectly. Worth every penny to be able to walk without pain.

this is the best olympus yet. i think it's about terminating the heel before the end of the shoe. i size up 1/2 size on Olympus compared to Lone Peak. waterproof version keeps beach sand out

These hiking schools are so comfortable! I have a sesamoid bone that I broke in the past that never healed correctly, so my foot normally hurts after hiking or running. After switching to these shoes my pain has went down so much. I will definitely be buying these again after I wear this pair out!

I absolutely LOVE the wide toe area of these shoes! And the support the se shoes offer during a run or hike is incomparable. They are made of good quality and I know these will last me a long time through any type of run or hike. Really really pleased with these. Definitely worth purchasing.

I'm always weary when there is negative reviews, but took the risk and bought these anyway. I love them. The fit is perfect. They look great. I took them out for a 5-mile hike on fairly easy terrain and they performed better than expected. For me, this shoe is a winner and I'm definitely investing in another pair. Wish there were more colorways to choose from!

This is a very nice shoe. I was excited to find a waterproof Olympus because I love my other Olympus shoes so much. But I am EXTREMELY disappointed that the toe box is smaller, even though all Olympus shoes are listed as having the "original" toe box. It is subtle, but enough for my duck-shaped feet to feel it. It might be that the materials on the waterproof Olympus are just thicker and not that the toe box is actually smaller. If that's the case, I hope they can be broken in to be more comfortable there.

This is about my 5th pair of Altras. I read a lot of reviews for these shoes and some people just hated them, while a few others loved them. They were on sale for a brief period of time, so I decided to take a chance on buying them. When I first got these shoes and put them on, I was furious! I was really mad because, as I walked around, they rubbed at the back of the heel. I kept wearing them (on my day off) around the house, and they eventually stopped rubbing and became really comfortable. (I have no idea why!) After that, I wore them all week at work with no problems. The only complaint I have is that they do seem slightly short. When standing or walking there isn't much room in front of my toes, which makes me think the sizing is slightly off. I wear a European size 37 (similar to 6.5) and at a size 7 these should fit perfect, if not slightly roomy. I ride a bicycle year round in the American midwest, and these shoes are keeping my feet nice and toasty without shoe covers, so far. I've worn them riding down into the 30s (F) and not felt cold. Also, my feet don't get clammy, so they are doing their job well and my feet are comfortable all day! My only regret is that I didn't buy the boots! It would have been nice to have some ankle coverage, but I may end up getting a pair of those next!

It has,a big toe box, but the middle part of the sole run small. The shoe pad is very soft and comfy.you need to get half or one size up depending on how wide is your foot.

I use this shoe for day hiking. But a small patch of the material near the laces has already worn through. I've only worn the shoes for 3 fairly non-strenuous hikes.

Super comfortable like my other Altras, great for hiking long distances. I did have to size up a full size same as many other reviewers.

I am a long-term Altra fan, and have had two pairs of Lone Peaks as well as the Outroad. I prefer the Lone Peaks but bought this shoe for the vibran sole and GORE-TEX. I wish they had these feature on the Lone Peak. I ended up going up a half size in this shoe compared to what I wear in the Lone Peak. I wear the same size in the outroad as the Olympus. The fit is slightly off: it is a bit uncomfortable for me in the mid foot, not sure why that is. Additionally, the laces are too short and I wish they were flat laces. The heel cup is also too short and I could see it digging in on long hikes. I think softer flat laces might help with this issue. I think Altra made the heel cup short so that the shoe would look like it is not a zero drop, but I could stand the aesthetics of a slightly taller heel. I find the way the toe rocker is designed to be very comfortable when walking and makes up for the bulkiness of the shoe. They are a bit heavier than I am used to but it is manageable and not uncomfortable.

Sadly, this shoe did not fit my high instep & wide ball of my foot, it was too tight.

I love that altra offers a gortex shoe. I've been waiting for that but the stack height on these is too much for me. Would love to see them put out a similar version with a non stacked low rise hiking shoe.

I love how these shoes feel while walking. If you are somebody who tends to drag your feet or not the best at heel to toe walking, these are perfect for you. The way the toe is shaped, helps the way you walk. They didn't seem heavy or bulky even though they look like they could be. They were light weight and comfortable. The traction on the bottom is great for all terrains. They held up good while walking a wet trail with steep hills. I know some reviews say they are smaller in size but in my opinion they fit true to size. They are a little narrow where the laces start by the toe but after taking the thin insert out they fit me perfectly. Even without the insert they were comfortable. There is a lot of room for your toes so they don't get smashed while walking. If they had sizes that fit my kids I would get some for them too because I really like how they feel when wearing them.

The grip on these shoes is amazing, especially when hiking through loose dirt and terrain. Although the shoes themselves look quite bulky on the outside, they're not too heavy which is great and actually have a nice curve along the toe edge so it feels like you're rocking into each step. These felt a little too wide around the toe area than what I'm normally use to, but my feet still felt comfortable and secure.

1) First impression - The kicks came in a typical shoe box. I was actually somewhat turned off at first since the texture of the front/sides of the shoe made them look like they had been pre-worn... Upon turning the shoes over, I realized that they actually *were* brand new and it was just that the fabric texture got fuzzy/scratched up easily (possibly in transit). 2) Pros - Very comfortable. I have extremely wide feet so I tend to experience chafing or too much squeezing near my toes, but these felt incredibly roomy! Love the Vibram grippy-ness... I had good results near water. I've had good experiences with Gore-tex in the past so it was nice to see that as a feature on these shoes. Pull-on loop near the back of the shoe was very convenient since getting my foot actually in took a little bit of effort. Good for both trail running and just regular hiking. 3) Cons - It might just be this color scheme since there's so much black, but the "used" texture even when new makes me wonder how they'll look after several months of usage. 4) Overall - I would be curious to see how the other/lighter color schemes hold up to wear and tear... Also would prefer a taller "neck" for higher levels of water.
