Felt different than other Altras. I usually love Altra trail shoes.

The sample that I received was the Altra Running Women's Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX hiking shoes. This product was (mostly, see third paragraph) better than other hiking boots I have tried because they were more like sneakers than boots, as in they aren't so clunky and heavy. I feel like they are more breathable than traditional hiking boots, therefore my feet don't get so sweaty, which I like, but they also still stay dry which is a plus. When I wear lower cut sneakers for hiking sometimes on rainy days mud gets in my shoes, so the higher cut of these is great. The shoes have great cushioning and are shaped to fit your feet, so they were great for my plantar fasciitis, so I would say a benefit to owning these shoes is that I can go hiking for hours and my heel doesn't hurt, which I have not found with traditional hiking boots. Usually, no matter how supportive the boots are, my heel pain still flares up, but I didn't experience that with these shoes. The only thing I didn't love about wearing these shoes is there is sort of a "nub" near where the tongue meets the shoe that rubs on my ankle bones and that was not too comfortable. I think if the manufacturer made the shoe so they weren't so rigid in that area they would be perfect. For this reason alone, I don't think I would purchase this product. I might recommend this product to my friends and family if the retail price wasn't so high. I couldn't recommend they buy them for that price with the possibility of the design flaw I mentioned above bothering their feet as much as they did mine. I think I would tell anyone looking to buy these shoes that they are great shoes, but definitely try them on in a store and walk around a bit to make sure the rigid area near the tongue doesn't bother their ankles.

First the warning - the lacing hooks on the ankles caught the little strings on the heel of the opposite boot and threw me to the ground. I cut off the strings right away. Had to wear the shoes loosely laced because of those sharp little folds next to the tongue that others have mentioned. I may have to trim off those folds too, if they don't soften with use. Already switched to shorter laces; the ones that came with the boots were way too long and didn't stay tied. BUT! the fit is great, and I'm delighted you brought out a high top winter model! I recommend them with those two warnings, which I hope you fix on later models.

I always size up for hiking boots and was surprised to discover that while walking downhill that my toes were consistently hitting the top of the shoe. I'm planning on getting a larger size to try since I love how lightweight and otherwise comfortable this shoe is. I echo some of the other reviews that the shoestrings are laughably short (can only tie once, a double knot is impossible) and there's some hard nubbin near the tongue that just digs deep into your foot. I put cotton pads for my trial use, but definitely would put more permanent padding if I kept this boot. Definitely something that should be fixed in the design moving forward. Can't recommend right now, but hoping a larger size, some at home mods, and longer laces will change my mind.

The lone peaks are roomy on my feet so I was excited to order these boots. Sadly, they fit exactly the same as the half size too small long peaks. They are passing along the feedback to the team.

This is my 4th pair of Altra shoes. I ordered my regular size and it is miserably tight even before tying the laces. The laces are too short and barely able to be tied. Additionally, the color options are hideous.

I loved the shoe part of these and made my feet feel great. My ankles not so much. Just wearing them around the house twice for 20 minutes left bruises on my ankle bones from the shoe.

Please just make this stability with Vibram but in Lone Peak all weather. Please. I'm not the only one who wants this. It's not rocket science.
Just like others reviewed There's something wrong with digging into the anklebut I'm not into Olympus as much anyway they run wider and shorter. So I got 1/2 size bigger but the digging into ankle is a no.

These are so close to being heavenly, but quickly discovered the seam where the tongue connects to body of the shoe is HURTS! It's stiff and stabs into my ankle. I can still feel the where the pressure was after wearing them around the house for a little bit even tho I took them off 10 minutes ago!
I ordered two sizes to try to get the right fit - the seams of the 7.5 was the worst on the inner ankles but not great on the outer ones either, where as the 8s was primarily an issue for one outer seam on just one shoe. So seems to be a quality control issue.
Wish I was one of the lucky ones who got a good pair, but I'll be returning both sizes.

This shoe is causing damage to my Achilles tendons and rubs on the ankles. I've gone back to my old pair of Altras that are worn out, but don't hurt my feet. Plus they are huge looking on my feet.

I purchased these because I run trail in Olympus and love them. I was looking for a light weight hiking shoe for fast packing trips. The shoe fits true to size and width. The shoe fits as I hoped, like the Olympus trail shoe. The main problem I experienced was comfort at the mid section -on the inside at points where the tongue is stitched into the shoe. A sharp pinching point occurred on both sides and on both shoes. I tried tying the shoe's differently- loose, tight, adjusting the position of the tongue- but nothing helped. After three days on the Colorado Trail, I hard to start adding mole skin to the sore spots, which I've never done with any other shoe that I've hiked, run, or raced in. The sharp, pinching points are uncomfortable and very annoying. I'm hoping over time the areas soften up, if not I'm not sure what I will do. I noticed several other reviews with the same comment.

There was a hard seam at the ankle that was going to cause friction. I love my lone peaks, but adore this style. Would buy if that issue was resolved.

Don't get me wrong, I lOVE my Olympus low sneakers, but these high tops missed the mark due to a bulky seam along the tongue that rub you ankles raw and leaves bruises.I thought maybe I just had a defective pair but then I noticed other reviewers having the same complaint. I wish I had read the reviews before I purchased. Hopefully they will fix this issue in the next model!!

I ordered two sizes to compare as we us avid altra wears know we never know what to expect. My usual 10 felt OK but the 10.5 felt huge on in the house so I set out to try the 10's. They rubbed so hard on my inner ankle bones and my toes feel super bruised after just a few miles. I think it's possible I may have needed a half size larger but I am not sure the ankle running is going to change that issue or not. It is a very huge design flaw and honestly I'm not even sure why I should have to return them and wait forever for a refund when they're so terrible made. You can see the gusset spots where it rubbed me are extremely rough and not smooth at all; it's almost like they're meant to dig into your skin! I am contacting Altra tomorrow as I definitely cannot wear these. I am hesitant to try a half size up as this is all such a headache but if I do and they are still awful, I'll utilize the 30 day guarantee!

I've owned several pairs of Olympus and a pair of Lone Peak mid hiking boots over the years. I'm a huge fan of Altra as they're really the only trail shoes I've found comfortable. I've been waiting for a version of the Olympus (I need the extra cushioning and stable footbed) with ankle support so I was super excited to see these come out. Unfortunately, they missed the mark. Aside from the pretty hideous color options, the lace hooks at the ankle aren't padded enough internally and are extremely uncomfortable once they're laced up. Not something I can break in. Sad I have to return. Please make a new version!!

The main fit of these boots are so incredibly great, but that little nub at the ankle that others mentioned (where the tongue meets the shoe) ... so painful! I can feel it digging in just walking around the house for a few minutes. It feels like there's a two small sharp rocks stuck in the boot. They are so perfect otherwise!

When I first started wearing these I loved them. After hiking some strenuous downhills I am so disappointed. I have never had issues with blisters. These shoes gave me blisters on every single toe! Not jus once but two separate backpacking trips. I had to exit my PCT section hike early because of blisters. I am a seasoned hiker and tried sock liners, different types of socks, etc. The shoes just do not support your feet from sliding forward on downhill terrain. One positive is that they are very waterproof.

I have owned the Olympus 2 and now the 4 trail runners. I love the Olympus 4 trail runners. I used them - cycling in Loire, Netherlands, hiking in France, walking on European Cobblestones and finally walking/hiking the Portuguese Camino from Porto to Santiago. They were comfortable, protected my feet from cobblestones, rough roads and allowed much room for my wide feet. Altra needs to secure the heel better. I tried multiple pairs of Hokas. The heel lock is great on the shoes but not wide enough toe-box.
I would love to purchase the hiking boot but the colors are awful. What about a nice slate gray, warm tan, muted red. Bright orange? Really?

This shoe was fabulous EXCEPT for the very painful pressure point on the front inner ankle of both shoes. Design flaw, not wearer error. Made the shoes unwearable. Other than that, I liked them ;)

Now have my replacement pair. The same issue with the upper tongue stitching. Unlike the line peak 2, the stitching is down too low into the seam and thus creates a friction bulge. It's a design defect. Murder on the ankles.

Got these b/c I love my Altra Olympus 5 Low GTX! They looked super cushy, but hard and bulky seams between the bottom laces and top (both shoes/both sides) rub right on the ankle bone! OUCH! CS was no help.

As others have stated, the ankle area is painful. Additionally, this shoe caused serious pain in the arch and entire bottom of foot. Tried to "break it in" but wish I had returned. Awful waste.

I am a huge Altra fan and this is the first pair of shoes I have bought where I am very disappointed. The boots put so much pressure on my ankles that it is not possible to hike in them. So sad!

I love the Altra Lone Peaks and was looking for an all-weather alternative. I wore these boots a few times, they fit well and held up well in the snow. However, after the fourth or fifth hike the tread on the bottom of these shoes started to peel off. I have never had this happen before! For the price of these shoes I expected much better. I am very disappointed!
