Terrible decision to reduce the Escalante to the narrower Standard fit. Disappointed that the upper is now "snug fit." The raised-seam elasticated midfoot will be a metatarsal crusher, and deprives runners of the choice to use alternate lacing techniques to customize fit. Very disappointed with recent changes. Wide sole, anatomical footshape, and high volume upper toebox were Altra's unique selling points, and the only reasons I had chosen Altra for all my running shoes. Now there are ZERO road shoes with the original footshape fit - why would you force your customers away from your brand?

Well, Altra has taken yet another awesome shoe and trashed it. I would love to know what is about the tongue of a shoe that Altra must not like because they keep destroying it. My 2.5's which are over a year old feel more cushioned than these. Upper material is stiff. I'm not even looking forward to the Torin 6. The only reason I'm still in an Altra is the Lone Peak 6. I guess that's the next one I will be marking off of my list. I'm trying to figure out how the founder of such an amazing shoe has gotten so far off the mark unless he has quit running.

After all the negative comments, I was loath to try it, but had made the mistake of getting talked into buying Rivieras the last time around - not a good shoe for me. This may be my favorite Escalante yet, and it must be my tenth pair. My only issue - and this is my personal issue - is that as I get older, the ball of my foot needs a bit more cushioning. Now if I could only find a shoe that has the same footshape and everything else that this shoe has plus a tad more padding and as close to zero-drop as possible, that would be great, Altra!

I love these shoes. I have owned many Altras in the past and now am updating from a prior model. These fit me perfectly and feel wonderful. The toe box is wide enough for me, and I do often wear "Correct Toes" in these shoes. I took these out of the box, put them on and they felt absolutely perfect right away. I bought them in my usual size of 9.5. I am not a runner so can't speak to that. I wear these all day long to workout with cardio floor work or strength training, and to go to work all day and stand on my feet teaching classes. For me they are great for everything I do. I like the style too, they really look good and current.

I was hesitant to try these as the change with each new version made my runs worst. The biggest selling point besides the sweet ride, was the toe box that accommodated my Morton's toe and the ability to run comfortably without socks. I ran bare feet as a child and have always felt the need to feel connected to the ground; the original version did that for me and the ride was pure joy. It's important to note that the Escalante was suggested by my chiropractor. Once Adidas changed their traditional sole to the boost version, I could not longer wear them due to bad pain in my calves. The uograded versions of this show left me with unhappy running and I finally gave up after the 2.5. With trepidation, I took the 3s out for a 3 mile ride and from that for to push off, it was KABOOM; pure running joy from that toe box to landing. I put it various pacing, stopping and landings and it responded in my memory of its first version. I have ordered 2 more pairs. Now, please no more changes!

The "black" is more like a dark navy/grey. This is my 4th pair of Escalantes and I always choose black but the color and fit of these 3.0's is nothing like previous models. Pic: Right foot is my old 2.5, Left is this new 3.0. Both women's size 8, Escalante, in "Black". My pants are also black so you can tell it's not a lighting thing.

These are more tight/rigid/stabilizing compared to the 1.5s. My toes feel slightly jammed, and I'm keenly aware of the firmer collar against my achilles, though it's not rubbing badly enough to do damage. After a 3 mile run my feet are a bit achey, like I wasn't getting the toe splay room that I need. I have narrow feet, yet the upper is so stiff that I feel like a toddler struggling to put them on, and miss the flexibility and spaciousness of the 1.5s. I don't like the thick tongue, but I'm happy that they shortened the excessively long laces. Also, I'm not crazy about these color options. They're somewhat...matronly and dated? Trivial, I know, but for the price I'd like to have a modern and unique looking shoe.

The lady just told ypu these are horrible :( You don't even have anything to say? Did you pass on the message? Why change a good thing? Do you also run? Doesn't our opinion override yours?

I've been dealing with PF for months, I've found these to be the best for overall wearing. Enough cushion with the Zero Drop. They have worked GREAT for me!

I mostly use these shoes for walking and the elliptical because I'm not doing much running right now. But I think they will be great for running when I start again. I love the wide toebox the most, and they look very stylish too!

I've been racing ultra marathons since 2012. I've completed 10 open road 300+ mile ultras during which I average 55-60 miles/day. I switched to Altra in 2021 and haven't looked back. The Escalante 3 is my absolute favorite. The toe box, fit of the shoe, etc are ideal for what I do. Would absolutely recommend and will continue to wear.

These fit perfectly. I have a narrow heel but wide toes. Altra is the ONLY shoe I wear.

I ordered a half size larger than what I would get in non-running shoes and I think it worked out great. I learned this when I was training for marathons that feet have a tendency to swell so I wanted to be safe. This could be giving me too much room, but if so, it did not create any discomfort. I had no blisters or rubbing issues at all. I have wide toes that like to spread and the shape of the toe box was huge! I loved knowing I had the space for my toes to move!
I did feel the workings of the shoe once or twice in my run as though the padding in the bottom was not think enough and I could feel where the shoe was sectioned in the bottom but it went away quickly in my run and my mind went on to something else and I didn't notice it again until a fleeting moment of a separate run for the same brief amount of time.
These shoes were a blessing from my last pair of running shoes that came with so much hype and such a cult following that I was really trying to run them dead so I could move on. I am glad my Escalante 3's entered my life and that I learned about Altra! I'm hooked!

I'm probably one of Altras biggest fan! Ever since my friend, Amy, who worked at a local running store, introduced me to Altras, they are all I want to run in! I love the wide toe box and the zero drop! I've probably had every version of the Escalante since they came out (plus some of the other lines too), so I was super stoked to get to try these out! They're my new favorite pair of running shoes now! They fit and feel absolutely perfect. I really like the flat laces and the length is perfect. Previous versions had laces that were sometimes too long and you had to double knot or they would come untied. So super happy about that! If I could give these 10 stars, I would. The only thing better would be if they were bright blue!

I really like the wide toe box that Altra offers. I found that this model is great for short distance runs and strength training. It's a zero drop shoe with just enough cushion. I'm looking forward to keeping it in my rotation, along with my trail Altras.

I am a 71 year old woman who likes to walk every day. These Escalante 3 shoes are by far the most comfortable shoes I have EVER owned...and I have owned several different brands over my lifetime. They are amazing!!

I absolutely love these shoes. They are comfortable and allow my toes to not be bunched up. After I started wearing, my plantar fasciitis went away. I love them so much o bought three pairs. Currently training for a marathon and no pain. Buy them now.

I love everything about these. First off, they look great- especially the navy with the splash of coral. They also feel great- I sized down half a size and I am loving the fit. Hugs my foot in all the right places. The tongue is awesome and the cushion underfoot feels really substantial and a little less soft than previous iterations, in a good way! I have only walked and worn casually so far, but will also use for a few training runs soon.

These are amazing running shoes. My only issue is the laces are too short in all four pairs I've purchased. I can barely tie them and as a result, come untied often.

I first bought these in white and loved how roomy and comfortable they were. I then purchased a second pair in black, same size, and the fit is completely different. Inconsistency is disappointing.

I've worn Escalantes for several years now, but I had to return these. They felt tight, clunky and uncomfortable, the thick tongue was not an improvement over the soft, thin, sock-like one on the previous model. PLEASE bring back the older version, with some neutral color options! I can't find any other shoes to equal those!

There is NOTHING about this shoe that is similar to what I fell in love with the Escalante for. The slipper feel. The flexibility, breathability, lightweight bounce without the bulk. The awesome wide toe box. The natural foot feel. None of it. It's all gone. This shoe makes my feet sweat and I never sweat. The tongue if thick and padded, stiff shoe, heavy. Just downright clumsy feeling. Maybe fine to walk but NOT as a runner. I want the 2.5's back. Why in the world do you keep changing what's not broken? Hate these shoes. Ugh. So frustrating.

I have pretty normal feet, normal to high arch (but nothing crazy), and I don't have a high volume foot by any means. I've had several pairs of escalantes and have loved them. In this model, the tongue is unfortunately sewn to the sides of the shoe, which is a great idea to prevent the tongue not sliding around, but it means there's a finite amount of space in the mid foot area. Even with the laces loosened entirely, it's still much too tight around the top of my mid foot for any sort of run. Such a bummer, beacuse I really want to love these, but they're just incredibly uncomfy.
