My Solomon X ultra trail running shoes have been my goto shoes for years. I decided to buy mid rise shoe as I have taken on longer day hikes and occasional overnight backpacking trips. The grip on these shoes are amazing, I recently tried them on a rocky trail with loose gravel in many places. The chassis is reinforced in key areas for toe protection (which was the reason I bought them). The mid rise ankle support provides a good balance between mobility and ankle support. I prefer a bit of flexibility in my ankle to take on steep grades which are quite common here in Utah. I added lock clip laces as it saves time in not having to tie shoe laces every now and then.

I recently returned from a 30-day backpacking trip in SW Wyoming through a NOLS program. we walked 150 mils sometimes walking for 10 hours each day. walked through Bolders, rivers, snow, ice, marshes, you name it. I had no blisters, I even walked for days in a row with (wet feet from water pouring in threw the top of the boot) and experienced no foot pain and really very little discomfort, although wet feet in general is uncomfortable, these boots were still amazing. I am more than happy with my x ultra's. overall great boot. God bless and keep making GREAT SHOES.

I ordered this pair of hikers for a 4 day camping adventure. I broke the cardinal rule and wore brand-new boots on a multi day excursion. These boots were exceptionally comfortable the entire time. The gore-tex kept my feet dry all the way until the 3rd afternoon after hiking through wet understory during a constant but light rain. I should add, the previous days had rain, as well as lake water splashes onto the shoes as I stood at the shore to collect water and my feet stayed dry that entire time. On the final day, even though they were still damp, I wore wool hiking socks and the dampness was negligible. The boots are light, comfortable, and look great (colour clones of the slate/blue Sense Ride 3 trail runners) and overall I am so pleased with this purchase. The one thing I will say is, my feet are 8.5s and I ordered size 9 as solomon has a reputation for runnign a bit narrow/tight, and I definitely made the right call.

Being a runner and having used all sort of running shoes , I found my search land on this shoe. At first I was apprehensive about the harder sole compared to big cushion running shoes I am coming from but, the grorilla grip and comparatively lighter weight in its category of shoes, this one has easily become one of my favorite shoe to grab for not just hiking and dog walks but shopping and visiting friends too. One does feel big gravels under the shoe but the tactical look is unmatched with any other hiking boot. @ 45 days of rugged use , it's looking like it will last atleast few years . I even tried running in these and didn't feel extra weight of them. So I recommend this for both a new as well as an experienced hiker.

I was looking for a light weight hiker to replace a La Sportiva boot. The x ultra 4 mid looked right on paper but feels cheap and minimal in comparison. It doesn't feel like its going to fall apart just lacks support, padding or structure underfoot. It's a good mountain bike shoe so I'll keep it but hard to imagine this as any sort of serious hiking shoe.

I bought a pair of these and a pair of hokas. The hokas are a little more comfy but already getting holes and ripping. These shoes seem very durable and high quality. Gortex is the best. Both purchased about a month ago.

Been wearing Vasque but thought I'd try them. Size is pure. Foot bed and arch contour is better. Softer grippy sole gave me confidence to climb some Arkansas terrain I hadn't done in 4 years. I appreciate the continuity from the sole to the upper. I can tighten or relax lacing and boot holds desired shape. Going thru gravel river beds was no problem and remained dry. There's attention to details ( laces, eyelets, front toe, lightweight ) I appreciate. Still pretty new for me, but great first impression so far!

I can't say enough about these boots! I bought my first pair (the older versions) back in 2012 and finally wore them out after 7 years. I live & play in the Pacific NW, and we get all 4 seasons here, with plenty of rain. I wear these boots as my everyday, and never worry about my feet getting cold or wet by stepping in parking lot puddles, or get around in wet grass, or walking through a few inches of rain where ever I am. I also don't worry about my feet getting hot during the sunny season hikes, as these boots breath nice! I love how these boots wear like a light-weight trainer or basketball shoe that you can run in, and not a clunky, hard to break in, heavy hiker that hurt your feet after a full day of pounding trails. In fact, I love the function and feel of them so much, I stopped buying hunting boots all together, and started wearing these as my go-to archery hunting boot. I buy 2 pair at a time, and cycle through them with a pair of Salomon running shoes, to keep things fresh, and not have to look to buy new shoes for a solid 4-5 years. I highly recommend these to anyone that is active and looking for protection from the elements.

Whether it's a rough day of hiking, a 16 mile asphalt walk, or just daily use, can't go wrong with these. Plenty of miles have been put on them and they have held up very well. I was recently stuck outside in a storm at work for about 4 hours and the only thing that stayed dry were my feet. I will immediately be buying another pair once my current pair get too worn (no signs of that happening anytime soon after over a year!).

I bought this a month ago and have been on a couple of hikes since. They're very comfortable, have a good grip and are completely waterproof. I was caught in a storm and had to walk through small streams and my feet stayed completely dry. Only minor issue is that some stuff (sand, leaves, etc) can come in as the ankle opening is not very tight (but I guess if it was more tight you would lose comfort). Overall highly recommend

Compared to the Keens, Garmont and other Military boots I've warn- these are the best hiking, trail or everyday wear boot I've ever worn. They look and feel phenomenal and are LIGHT but sturdy. I'll buy another pair in another color. You will not be disappointed

Great boots! Very sturdy but very light. Used them pretty much out of the box on long hiking days over rough terrain in Utah for a week with no issues. Fit was perfect, laces don't slip. Tight enough on the ankle to keep a lot of sand out but didn't feel like they were pinching.
