You know I love the quantic softness but there are treads right underneath the metatarsals that really hurt my feet I left them on for about five minutes and said I can't wear these things. Also the form things they put in there made a huge indentation in the insole under the insert and I could feel it it was like a defect

I put heavy miles on the previous versions of the Timp and was hoping the 4 would be my go-to shoe for ultras this summer. It will not. First, I think they had Gene Simmons design the tongue because it is absurdly long. It sits higher than my ankle and requires crew-height socks if I don't want it poking into my shin. While I was running, this extraordinary tongue slid forward and ended up creeping out of the top laces near my toes. The new cushioning felt amazing when I slipped on the shoes, but about two miles into my run, my midfoot started aching. I did nine miles in them and it felt like I had run barefoot. The cushion lost its springy plushness rather quickly. I am a lighter weight runner so I don't think it is a matter of me being too heavy for the shoe. It just had nothing in it. On the bright side - the fit is really nice. Snug through the heel and midfoot and nice and wide at the toe. I really wish this shoe had worked because I was counting on putting very long days on it. Instead, I think it will be a daily trainer for 5 miles max, and then I won't be buying another pair.

I only wear Altra's. This is my third pair of TIMPS because I love them. I have worn them three times now. I liked them the first day but the second day, I realized the tongue slides to one side. Then they changed the material of the tongue where it now cuts the front part of my ankle. It's very uncomfortable. Today I had a race, so I wore above the ankle socks so that it wouldn't cut me. I don't want to have to wear above the ankle socks. PLEASE fix this!!!

I fell in love with Altras from wearing the Escalante. But I wanted an outdoor shoe with good treads. I tried the Alpine (a bit clunky) and the Timp 3 but they recommended ordering a half size larger than usual, and the shoe was slightly too big. Then the TIMP 4 arrived at our local shoe store. It is everything I wanted. The fit is perfect in my regular size 9, and my feet are so happy in it. Also I love the color! Compared to the engineered upper and the flat color of the Timp 3, this is a delight. The Deep Teal shoe has a soft upper in Aqua that is covered by a dark blue mesh. The effect of both together is something like a peacock feather. I love looking down at the pretty color on my feet. For me, Altra really got it right with the Timp 4,

First trial hike ok, first 5 mi trail run ok - noted great sole response, but the 9 mi trail run was painful, forefoot pain and numbness/metatarsalgia onset at about 6 mi, I had to actually walk the end. This has never happened to any of my prior Timps 2 and 3. Not sure if it's the forefoot cushioning or the tow box shape. I'm going to buy some Timp 3 while I can still find them. Too bad!

I am a Nurse with problem feet; we punish our feet on hard, cement-based hospital floors year after year. One foot expecially I have had surgery twice now to fix problems, and currently have a neuroma that unless I am wearing athletic sandals or one of my many pairs of Altras (once they are retired from work, they stay on for casual wear, where I am less hard on my feet/shoes), I can hardly walk. I have been a nurse my entire career, and I want to continue to retirement...my Altras were a career saver; once I found my Timp 2s, then later my Timp 4s, I have been happy as a clam. I wasn't as happy with the models in between, but the 4s seem to have returned to some of the fit I loved in the 2s. I am currently wearing my Timp 4s with the insoles that come with them, NOT removing them and adding in arch supports, as the current condition of my problem foot dictated getting rid of the arch supports, and you know what?? They still allow me to run the unit with as little pain as possible. This is the first time in my entire life I have worn work shoes with the insoles they come with, not replaced them. Love my Altra Tiimp 4s, looking for my next pair right now, and this pair is moving into Casual wear!!

I have purchased two other models of the Altra but I especially love this model. This is my second pair of the Timp 4. It is comfortable with a wider toe box and excellent arch and foot support. My feet feel stable, yet supported even with the medium soft insoles. With the flatter base style there is no added pressure on the ball of the foot like other brands that are higher in the heel area and force your foot pressure more forward. I can wear these every day and all day with extreme comfort.

As I just begin my trail running adventures, I needed a shoe to be almost perfect to help with my heal spur, Jones' fracture like pain and vulnerability to shin splints. I started with the Monte Blanc- this created hot spots around my heal spur. Moved onto line peak 5's which felt great in the store, but I got shin splint aching after my first run and then I found the Amazing Timp 4! Comfort and a hug for my exhausted feet and legs. I bought them on the Wednesday and ran a 5k vineyard race on the Saturday. There was no break in time required and I know I would have struggled to complete the race without them. A few things could be better I have a wider than average woman's foot, and these felt wide around my tarsals, although perfect in the toes box and heal. They do tighten up, but then be careful not to bunch up the tongue. The lugs do seem to be wearing quickly I don't wear them often as I am only wearing them on the trail but I think they would have worn down by now if I had been wearing them more. Maybe the vibram would be a better option for the longevity of the lugs/sole I haven't had the chance to try these out in water obstacles yet, but I am am excited to see how that works. All-in-all I think it's a great show and I would buy it again!

When I jumped into the ultra game, I invested in my first pair of Timps. Quickly, they became an essential shoe in my endurance game. They have consistently been the shoe I switch into for 20+ miles and my feet are insta fly happy! Running in Timps is like running on clouds. They offer amazing cushion without extra weight. The Timp 4s are hands down the best iteration of this shoe. Somehow Altra has created a shoe that feels even lighter and more cushioned while also now offering drainage holes for us crazies who run through rivers and streams. Love them!! I've worn Timps for multiple OCR and trail ultras. Ty sure going to continue to be my high mileage shoe of choice, and might start making an appearance for shorter training and racing because of their versatility and feel. Amazing.

I was negative about these shoes at first, because the tongues slide towards the outside immediately and don't stay centered. But after walking in them for a week, and using them on a hike today with my family I really love them. I like the cushion they provide. Plenty of room for my toes to splay, my ankles have room to move and not be rubbed. I would but them again.

I've had a few pairs of Timps and I continue to love them! Comfortable and with the right amount of grip for the trails I run. The tongue and heel are a little different so I need higher socks, but other then that - all is right in the world! :)

Another slit in the tongue needs to be added to keep it from shifting to one side. Worth the longer tongue you need to make adjustments to keep the tongue in line with the laces

Long time Altra shoe lover. I was so excited to use the Timp 4s. After wearing through four Timp 1.5s it was due time to get another pair of Timps. This version of the shoe was initially soft and responsive making it a potential great race shoe. Unfortunately, after only using the Timp 4s on light compact trials (stroller friendly) for 150 miles the sole wore quickly. To add to the mix the side materials started to show signs of blow out. Sad to say that I will be considering other footshape shoes that can hold up to light terrain trail running.

I've had this shoe for about a month and have been out with them about 5-6 times. I have a few rips in the material where I can poke my finger through! This is NOT acceptable!!!!!

Why the drastic changes from the perfect Timp 3? These fit like a bootie, with weird padding on the ankles and tongue. The material is scratchy with ankle socks. Also they have holes in the sides, covered by a flimsy mesh. They are such a narrow and uncomfortable fit, digging high into my ankles and Achilles' tendon - I can't even try them out. The Timp 3 was a perfect trail hybrid. Timp 4s are a chunky mess without any practicality for trail running. What happened to minimal?

I love this shoe - have worn heavily and now looking to replace! Great support and toe width. I have a nerve issue in my foot and these are the only shoes I want to hike in.

I have a pair I run in and a pair I wear out and about. I love this shoe. I love the cushion it provides for the gravel road I regularly run on. I'll continue to buy it as long as they continue to make it.

I have been wearing Altras for over a decade; for running, hiking, work, and travel. The past 1-2 years I noticed poor quality in the materials of a new version of the same model, sloppy tongues and short shoelaces that easily come untied. Not to mention unattractive colors. The TIMP 4 fits me better than any Altra I have purchased during the past several years. No sloppy tongue that doesn't stay in place, wide enough toe box without looking like an old ladies shoe. I purchased 2 additional pair because the TIMP 5 is already out and the reviews aren't encouraging. Altra, thank you for listening to customer feedback. My feet and I are happy.

Perfect. I'm a lonepeak gal (backpacked 12 mile days in them) but these are that but more cushion and a tiny more support.I bought three pairs of this Timp style and might get more since styles change. I love these so much I wear them all day in house and all around. I forget they are on my feet they are so comfortable. I've bought about 30 pairs of Altras over the years. Everybodies feet are different so reviews are iffy. But these fit me so well. There's a Timp hiking boot that I want to try but the reviews aren't great. But they aren't great for these yet I'm in love with these. So everyone is differentguess I'll try the Timp Hiking boot next!
