Years ago a thru-hiker named Lint turned me onto Altra when I encountered him by accident on the PCT near Mt. Adams. I have been buying them ever since. I especially love the wide toe box, gaiter trap, and zero drop. Newbies, knowing of my long history with the Pacific Northwest Trail, often ask me for footwear advice, and I always suggest Altra. BTW my newest pair (TIMP 4) still looks embarrassingly clean, but I am working on fixing that...

The breathability and softer ankle surround make this a favorite so far! Olympus had no tongue padding and Lone Peaks could use more cushion underfoot - for me and my mass / running style!
For sizing reference: i wear US11E2 / EUR45 in work safety boots, US11.5 / EUR 46 in every other Altra, but US12 / EUR46.5 is this Timp 4.
I would argue this is closer to 'slim' foot shape. Add 1/2 size and best trail runners yet!
A balance must be struck between protection from the ground and destroying your own other ankle if you bump it with this tread! Worth it with this level of traction / cushion combo. May replace Lone Peaks for softground super muddy conditions ~~ tbd!

This is a great shoe. I am still wearing my first set. They have lasted over a year. I have a total of three and they might be the best ones yet. My only minor issue is the tongue slides over to easy and putting laces on is a work out. The eyelets are way to small for normal laces. These are minor and wouldn't stop me from buying.

I've been a long-time fan of the Lone Peak. Needing a replacement, I decided to choose a little more cushion with the hope of retaining traction. The Timp did not disappoint.

Finally, a shoe wide enough, and comfortable. Best shoe I have ever worn.

First 0mm drop trail shoe. Quality build, no issues. Comfy sole, good ankle support & tread. Jagged rocks never bothered my feet. Wish laces had more texture & grip, but that's my only complaint.

I have never heard of Altra until now. Finally have room for the toes to spread out. I feel more balanced when I walk. Also appreciate the toughness of the sole. Love the tread! Buying more!

260+ miles on my Altra Timp 4's. These are amazing. Have withstood numerous trail races (5k-30k) and hundreds of miles in the Colorado mountains. I have ZERO experience with them "blowing out." 10/10

I wore these out hiking in Montana and doing general running/hiking locally. They fit so well, super comfortable, but I've had them repaired twice now in one year. Holes on the side and the soles have worn down. But fit wise and comfort they are amazing. I bought another pair. Just be warned on the durability.

After experiencing tons of blisters and foot pain with other popular trail running shoes I made the switch to the Timp's and couldn't be happier! Sturdy, comfortable and tons of room in the toebox.

I had never worn the Timps before because I thought they probably worked better for trail running. use these for road running and they feel great. They may be my favorite Altra's so far.

I've had my Timp 4's for ~6 months now. I have multiple brands, models, and styles of shoes to run in and I continue to grab my Timp 4's. Super comfortable, and pretty light. Great for trail and gravel running. I've even run the road with them recently. Will be buying more for future races when I wear these down.

Use these for trail running, and recently hiking the Fisherman's Trail in Portugal. They are super comfortable but don't feel sloppy! Exceed my previous Salomon's and Hokas.

My feet hurt and these shoes are squishmazing... I have a ton of issues with my feet and these shoes are the BEST I have found for my issues. I wear them all day and my feet hurt the least after wearing these at the end of the day.

Only walking shoes that fit my feet. Wish I had found these much sooner. Allows for very comfortable walking even though I have some arthritis in my toes plus a bunion. Good cushioning. Will be adding another pair soon.

I have put these shoes through the wringer. First with an early season Xterra triathlon, and then a 25k Buffalo run on antelope island in Utah with blizzard conditions. I've since soaked them completely through in some slot canyons they still look and feel great. Almost ready to buy a new pair.

These shoes are so comfortable. This is my second pair. The first pair I purchased and walked the Camino Ingles last September without a single foot problem -- every other person in the group had some sort of foot problem. I love the cushioning and wide toe box. The heel is locked in. My new favorite shoe!

I absolutely LOVE this shoe! I finally have a shoe brand that fits my foot and toesstair step with a long big toe. I have arthritis and sesamoiditis after years dancing on point and dancing where all the weight is carried on the ball of the foot. The altra shoes, I have 2 pair: torrin and timpboth are so comfortable and my feet are healing. The stiffer thick sole with a very soft interior that holds my foot securely are just what my doctor recommended. Love your brandand the shape of the Altraswill be buying many more! (The tongue of the timp 4 pair has an awful hard plastic ridge that cut into my foot but I liked the shoe so much, I cut it back and sewed a soft fabric on the edgeprestono longer a problem). Please on the next version fix the hard plastic to a soft tongue like the torin. I will be buying more! Oh, and please expand your offering to sandals and other types of shoes.

I've been through a lot of shoes especially nike and i had to try the temp 4's because i have the lone peak 7's as well but i wanted cushion, these were the ones. I have a very wide flat foot and these shoes have been the best shoe for my feet, I have put about 300 miles on them right now and they are holding up very well, i do about everything in these shoes, if i had the money i would buy as many as i could!!

I love the new shoes, improved cushioning makes it better for 73 year old class 4 arthritic knees, improved tread helps stability and climb, and the increased heal loop helps with inserting foot.

Thing I love about this shoe:
Well cushioned
Fits narrow heel
Can feel the Earth beneath my feet (which makes trails easier to navigate)
Great grip
Durable (have taken them on over 100 miles of trails in two months and plan to take them on my R2R cross)
Easy to get on/off
Breathable
Light
Flexible (not rigid)
Things I would improve:
A little more arch support for my high arches would help to keep plantar fasciitis from becoming inflamed
