The best compliment is when your kid says nothing but takes off running. The boots don't allow a lot of ankle-movement. No issues with wet feet, either. (But the snow has only been a couple of inches deep so far) Having two inserts is a smart move from LLBean, too.

Love these boots and have been purchasing them for the past seven years. Here comes the but.... The boot is so awesome that after going through all three of my boys the exterior of the boot is still in perfect condition but the liners wear out within one year of wearing them. This of course would not be a problem if L.L Bean made replacement liners. They do not.

I ordered these after our first snow and so haven't had a chance to try them out, as no more snow has fallen. But they are warm and sturdy and am sure will do the trick. Only drawback is they don't bend at the ankle so it makes for a stiff walk. Maybe after several wearings, they'll loosen up.

As is the case with most L.L. Bean products, these boots stand the test of time! I've been able to pass them down the line through my 5 kids over the years and while they still look practically new, they have been used to the point that three of our pairs are in need of replacement liners....but no luck! L.L. Bean doesn't have them available for purchase. I'm stuck now with three great pair of boots with loads of wear still left in them, but without a liner, they aren't warm enough to send my kids out in the snow with. Huge bummer!

Bought these for my daughter and she complained that it was too tight, so I had to return those and got something else instead.

Kids winter boots that are only water resistant are somewhat useless in my opinion. Winter is wet and messy here in Maine and waterproof is necessary. I'll look elsewhere next time. Too bad. I know it says water resistant in the description.

These boots are cute and very warm looking. Unfortunately the first time my 9 year old put them on to go outside, she pulled on the velcro strap and the plastic buckle broke in two. We will be returning these and finding another boot. How sad for my daughter who was so excited for these! I also thought it was very odd that these boots had an extra set of boot liners in the box. Are the boot liners so cheap that they expect them to wear out quickly? LL Bean quality is lacking on this product!

We originally bought size 9 in the toddler version but was too small. Our daughter is just getting into size 9 shoes in other brands (sketchers, stride rite, target brand). We returned and bought size 10 in this kids boot and it's very long and somewhat narrow. Also for young kids these are heavy, tall boots. Will try again in the future when our daughter is older because they seem to be great quality.

My son would come home from school complaining about his wet feet while wearing these boots. We were constantly having to dry the liners and boots out each night. We thought he was jumping into puddles or something, but realized he was just being a kid playing in the snow! I would not recommend these. We returned and bought Boggs instead.

These boots are really well made, a pleasing color (torquoise blue) And came with an extra set of wool liners......at a great price! I bought the biggest kid size (7)for my petite teenage daughter-she wears an adult 7-these boots were so big that I could not wear them! and I am an adult 8 & 1/2.....they were WAY too big!

Purchased two pairs, one for my 3 year old, size 11 and my 5 year old, size 1. And they are HUGE!!!! The boot comes up to both of their knees! IT makes the boots too big, clunky and not easy for maneuvering for a toddler. I had a size 11 'llbean snow boot from last year, they are boys so even though my daughter is size 11 wanted to get her a prettier pair and the size of the ones we got today are double the size! Sadly they have to go back. It's hard enough for the kids to move in the snow with their little legs and then to add huge, clunky boots, there's just no way!!!! These are more suitable for 7 and up

My 2-year-old wears about a size 9-10. We could not even get these on his feet in size 10. I am guessing it is because he still has the tall/chubby toddler foot shape. The ankle portion was too narrow to get his foot through into the boot, and the boot is not designed to help you much in this (not a lot of extra space to be cinched down by the velcro strap, for example). A larger size would not have helped as the length was most likely correct and it is so tall the 10 already would have interfered with his knee (he's about 36" tall). Otherwise it seemed like a fine boot I guess? Hard to say if the proportions would have been better for older children's feet. Obviously I am returning them.

Boots are great, but liners are way too narrow for my grand son's foot to wear, so he wears heavy socks.

These boots are not waterproof. My 5-year old son likes the feel of the boots and enjoys wearing them, but EVERY time he goes out in the snow, his feet get wet. I put his snow pant liner securely over the boot, so I know no snow is sneaking in from the top. We sent the first pair back because I thought they were defective, but the new pair leaks through, too. It's great that they come with 2 pair of removable liners, but I should not have to take them out EVERY night to dry them. Additionally, the back of one pair of liners wore through after only a couple of months. We have always relied on Bean for outdoor boots, but I am sad to say we would not order these again.

They are very sturdy but unfortunately they are not waterproof and that is a big deal when dealing with snow! The least thing you want is to have your feet wet and my son is coming home every day with wet feet. It very disappointing specially since they are not cheap.

They didn't fit. Too narrow & no space for my very high instep; this without the liners in the boot.

I've bought these boots every year for the last 10 years - they were a necessity for winter with two boys. This year, they are so narrow, my kids couldn't even get their feet in. I ordered multiple sizes and they were all way too narrow. So disappointed that the price has increased while the quality has decreased.

The title pretty much sums it up! I wanted to love these boots, but my boys wore through through BOTH pairs of liners in just one season. Unfortunately, LLBean doesn't offer replacement liners for purchase anymore, either. So now we have two pairs of near perfect outers that are useless without the liners. I purchase LLBean with the expectation that we will be able to pass them down to the next child for at least another season--if I thought a boot was only going to last for a single winter I would purchase at a big box store. These boots unfortunately don't live up to the standard I usually expect from LLBean!

I bought these for my 4 year old based on the excellent reviews but they were too tall for her to walk in comfortably. Maybe these are great boots for older kids, but not the best for littler kids.

My 11 year old son opened these on Christmas Day and went outside to play in the snow. 30 minutes later he was inside complaining that his feet were wet and freezing. Both the boot and the linings were soaked from being in six inches of fluffy new snow. They will be going back to LL Bean tomorrow as they do not appear to be waterproof at all.

RIDICULOUS! These boots are enormous! I read reviews on this site prior to purchasing but my kids have been wearing the Northwoods boots for years. I just put my size 9.5 (women's) foot into a kids 5 and it fit. My daughter was wearing my son's size 13 from last year and I ordered the same size, new, and they're huge too. I'm very frustrated with LL Bean. It seems like the kids shoes are WAY wrong as though somehow adult shoes have been labeled as kids. I am now ordering my kids (size 13 and size 5) sizes 4 and 11. I hope these fit--it will be the third time I've paid for them and had to send them back.
