I was looking for a lightweight and warm weatherproof winter jacket to wear in temperatures above 32 degrees. This jacket is perfect. It's comfortable with a regular shirt and warm with a flannel right around the freezing mark. The weatherproofing has shed water well in light rain and snow. The pit zips are a nice bonus for milder days and the profile and fit of the jacket was perfect for me with a large tall. I'm very happy with this product so far.

Features I like: water resistant yet breathable fabric, which is often claimed, but not always acheived; insulation keeps body temp just warm enough; wristlets, collar, hood keep drafts away; pit zips open just enough to moderate temp; outer fabric soft to the touch yet tough and windproof; lower pockets have warm lining, zippered; upper pockets ample and zipper sealed; inner pocket large, doubles as self storage; stow pocket for hat, gloves; front zipper large teeth, easy to use; adjustable hem. Features I don't like: none!

Did not read the description very carefully, it seems, for the item is a little bulkier than I imagined, though I do think it would "squish" to a small size. I am impressed by its water-repulsion, though I've not tested it in hard rain yet; it's also much warmer than I anticipated. I live in St. Louis, and I doubt that I would need anything more for winter than this jacket. I got the Tall version, and there is plenty of room, even for my generous frame, for a sweater underneath--in which case I am certain that it would be equal to what winter around her dishes out. It is meant to fold up into its own pocket, but I have found no directions how to do this, and it is not obvious to me, at least, how to do so.

This jacket is lighter weight, waterproof, some insulation and some stretch to it. I bought to ski in this jacket and it did not disappoint. I have skied in heavier bulky jackets in the past this is much more comfortable. It has some insulation to it but is not overly heavy. I wore with a base layer underneath and was comfortable for a full day skiing through in falling snow and wind all day. I could get the hood up over the helmet although it was a little tight protected me when the wind was really blowing. Glad I bought this.

I've searched long and hard across all of the name brands for a LIGHTLY insulated, FULLY waterproof raincoat, and this is by far the best coat I have found. In fact, IT IS MY FAVORITE COAT I HAVE EVER OWNED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. It is now my go-to jacket year round -- from cool summer rainfalls, to all spring and fall conditions, to warmer winter days. I'm not sure how LL Bean's temperature rating system works as to why they rate this -25/25, but I bought this and consider it to be much more of an insulated jacket than a full-fledged winter coat, which is exactly what I wanted. Without a heavy base layer, this coat keeps me very comfy from the low 40's (F) to high 50's in all weather, and would be fine to wear into the 60's in the rain without getting too hot (there's armpit vent zippers). With a heavy base layer and/or heavier physical activity, I could be comfortable wearing it in the 20's -- perfect as a ski jacket for warmer skiing. Below 20, I would switch to a full winter coat/ski jacket. There's a lot of details to like about it -- First of all, the waterproof material is soft and silky, so it doesn't even feel (or sound) like a raincoat, meaning it doesn't look weird wearing this on a sunny day. The hood has a built-in semi-rigid brim to keep the rain off of your eyeglasses when adjusted correctly using the hood tension adjustment strap. There's a large inside pocket for throwing snacks, a cell phone, a bottle, or paperwork you're trying to keep dry as well as a more secure, zippered inside pocket that also doubles to serve as the self-contained packing bag to stuff the coat into when you turn it inside out. (The entire jacket packs to the size of a small throw-pillow when packed. Very convenient when travelling, but note the jacket will come out wrinkled, which will smooth out after wearing it for an hour or so.) The coat has a great, sporty fit -- not too loose, not too tight, yet there's still enough room in the sleeves for me to wear a base layer or bulky sweatshirt, and since the inside of the sleeves are smooth (not fleece), the coat slides on and off my arms very easily. (NEVER buy a jacket with fleece lining inside the sleeves!) Literally the ONLY thing I wish were improved on this jacket is that I wish the collar was designed to stow the hood in it. Since it works and looks great as an everyday jacket, I wish the hood could be hidden when I wear it on a sunny day. I've never paid this much for a jacket before, but I have no regrets doing it -- this jacket is awesome, and it proves that you get what you pay for!

Just came in from 22 degree weather with 29 mile an hour winds and with this coat those conditions are no bother! Keeps my arms and torso warm with no wind or chill cutting through the fabric. The hood and zip up around the neck, chin and face keep my head and cheeks protected. Through this 2019/2020 winter with deep chills and winds I have been in awe of how this coat keeps me comfortable from the temps but also gives me lots of flexibility and ease of movement. It packs away easily in luggage taking up minimal space. I wear it usually with LL Bean's Airlight Full-Zip Hoodie which is also lightweight which makes a nice combo for me both in town and on the road. Extremely happy with these two purchases to get me through a cold winter, well worth the cost!

I'm used to wearing HEAVY winter coats for warmth, this one is very light weight, "waterproof", warm and comfortable. I like being able to walk around a mall or store without the bulk of a regular winter jacket but still be able to take on the outdoors. I bought it for snow showing and planned to be out in the weather with it. It does great for that too. Well worth the money!

I bought this jacket hoping it would keep me warm and dry when I walked my dogs in cold, rainy weather. It performed exactly as I had hoped. The day after receiving it I started to walk the dogs in a light drizzle on a 37 degree day, but halfway through our walk the drizzled turned into a downpour. By the time we got home the dogs, my shoes, and my jeans were soaked, but everything on me covered by the jacket was dry and I remained warm. Since that initial use, I've worn it many times in wet, cold weather, and it has never failed to keep me dry and warm. I usually wear the jacket over a fleece top and, while the jacket is slightly fitted as described, it still gives me enough room that I don't feel restricted. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

I've worn the jacket about 6 times in a variety of conditions (rain, wind, snow, cold). It has performed well for skiing in the Pacific Northwest. Been in temps from about 15 degrees to 35 degrees. It does let a bit of wind through - not a lot, but more that a gortex shell might. Seem to be able to handle a good range of temps and conditions.

This is a perfect jacket for those 45 damp days when you want more than just a shell, and with under layering right into winter. The fact that it packs into a pocket makes it great for cool weather travel. I love how light weight it is while still providing some warmth. I got it for cool damp weather when traveling but I expect to wear it skiing this year as well. But, I am a classic "medium" and the "small" - which I own nothing else in - fits perfectly. I have a store nearby and was fortunate to be able to try it on or I would have had to send the medium back. So I suggest going a size smaller than your usual. Also, got a "dark cinder" and it is even blander than I expected... the dullest garment in my closet. But I didn't get it to be a fashion plate. It is super practical with well designed pockets, hood cinch, cuff closures, and all other features. It works as it is designed to.

This jacket packs well, is waterproof and warm. It is the one jacket that I take on trips since it takes little space and you can wear it in such a variety of weather conditions. Layering will extend the temp range on the cold side, included breathability features will aid comfort as temperatures increase. For all this convenience you do pay a premium. I was surprised how well it kept the wind and cool damp temperatures at bay in northern San Francisco in March!.

Great, great jacket for winter use. Really warm and waterproof. Not great for skiing -- external material is too thin and the pocket situation may not be the best for avid skiers. If you're only going out a couple times per season, it probably works.

I went for a log walk. It started to drizzle half way through. This coat kept me warm and dry. I hardly noticed the drizzle. The hood has three draw strings that need to be adjusted to each individual but when done the hood is comfortable, warm, and doesn't leak air around your face.

I RETURNED a Men's Ultralight 850 Down Sweater Hooded Jacket and exchange it for this waterproof primaloft jacket. The primaloft jacket is awesome and a better option for me: --this is 5 degrees warmer (according to LL Bean warmth scale) than the down sweater. I feel like the primaloft is more windproof. --Waterproofing is obviously a big advantage. The waterproofing on this is great and it's warm in the rain. Really great for these mercurial New England winter weather patterns. With the down, I always had to watch out for precipitation because it wouldn't stay very warm when wet. With this primaloft jacket, I know I'm basically covered no matter what. --Primaloft jacket has a better hood than the down sweater. It's adjustable, fits better. --Primaloft coat is a little longer. I will say the down sweater had a trimmer fit and it's noticeably lighter than the primaloft (though I wouldn't say the primaloft is heavy). Fit: I guess I have what you'd call an "athletic" build--the large fits pretty well. It's looser at the midsection on me a bit, but fits well through the chest, shoulder, and sleeves. A medium would have fit my midsection better, but it would have been too tight everywhere else (I wear a 44 suit jacket and a 34-36 in pants if that helps). Anyway, for a little more money, the primaloft jacket is a huge improvement over the down sweater jacket. More versatile. Doesn't leak feathers.

I needed a jacket for walking my dogs in cold wet weather, my wife loved her two primaloft products a jacket and a coat. I decided to try the primaloft waterproof jacket since she loves everything primaloft. I purchased the XL Tall which perfectly and is very comfortable even in warmer weather walking the dogs.. This jacket is so light and comfortable it's perfect for walking in cool rainy weather.

I bought several coats from LL Bean before settling on this one. It fits well - I got the Large Tall - and layers well with the original Primaloft Packaway Jacket without a hood. (Item: ZZ504081) I'm a fan of the zipper pockets - not snaps, like some of the coats, but that's personal preference. It's comfortable, travels well (went to London recently) and keeps you warm into the 40's. Layering is best beyond that.

My son loves this jacket. He lives in the city and needs a jacket that's waterproof/resistant, warm and lightweight. It's roomy enough to wear a sweater underneath or fleece for a colder day and it's long enough in the back for that extra protection and warmth. It runs very true to size.

I wear this jacket everyday on walks and working outdoors and even indoors to keep warm and it does the job. For really cold weather, it is my outer jacket over several layers and it wards off the wind effectively with hood on. Really comfortable to wear. I am very satisfied and would buy again. Thank you!

The jacket was purchased for my spouse. He carries many things when he leaves the house...sunglasses, keys, wallet, mints. This warm jacket, with a hood for rain, provides zippered pockets for all his "stuff", and the zippers work.

First of, I'm a woman but don't like it in the women's. Got this in the Dark Cinder color. Men's coats tend to have more pockets for some reason and more chest coverage (need the space for upper body). This is the jacket for me. I get hot easily and sweat like I ran a marathon. Thank goodness for armpit vents. I love the weight and warmth. Super light and roomy with huge pockets. I can put my overstuffed wallet in all the pockets easily. I use the chest pockets for cards, carfare, phone, and things I need to get to quickly. There's 4 on the outside, 2 on the inside (1 is the stowaway pocket but I won't be using it for that most of the time). Love the cuffs; not too tight, Length is perfect, both sleeves and body. Covers up the buns completely; nothing worse than a draft and cold butt cheeks. Great neck protection too. I'm impressed with the inside pull ties that draw the collar close. Don't have to worry when I forget my scarf. Great clean zipper design; no flaps of material to get caught in. Good sized hood with draw cords and sturdy rim. The attention to detail was not spared and I'm so impressed. That's a mouthful coming from me. May have to buy my adult sons one!

We traveled Europe this spring of 2019. This jacket performed perfectly in the chilly, windy and rainy weather. It was warm and dry when you needed it and not too hot when the daily weather improved. This is a perfect travel companion.

Purchased this jacket for use this past winter and it more than met my expectations. It is definitely waterproof and windproof as advertised, I would also say that the temp rating is spot on. I live in Northern Virginia, so we do not get too cold, but cold enough and we usually get a wet winter. I had this jacket in the mid/low 20's with just a t-shirt and light weight fleece top and it was quite comfortable, it was sometimes too warm with temps in the 40's. I was shoveling snow in the mid 20's with just a t-shirt underneath and I was definitely sweating at the end, the jacket did breathe well and the pit zips are great. Keep in mind that for this jackets temp rating it does take into account some layering and light activity. If you plan to just stand around or sit and ice fish, no, this jacket will not be warm enough, it also does not claim to be. If you are looking for a good all around wet/cold weather jacket, this one is a great choice. Fit: I am 6' and weigh 240lbs, back and sleeve length are great, it is a bit of an "athletic" fit, but I had no problem layering light to mid weight items under it.
