I LOVE these boots! I bought some my first winter in Northern Iowa because I knew winter was going to be COLD! I'm going into my fourth winter and my feet have always been toasty warm, even when out shoveling in the -30's and -40's. The only thing to be aware of is that going up from the half-size does feel too big. There's definitely room to spare for a couple of layers of bulky socks if you needed (which you don't, because they're so warm!). I feel a little clunky walking with them but I worry that going down a whole size may have been too small with thick socks. TL;DRthe boots are clunky when going up to a whole size, but they really do keep your feet warm at -40 so totally worth it!

After reading many reviews about other LL Bean boots...I am glad that I purchased these. These are perfect for cold and SNOW. I will wear them specifically for that. These are quite heavy but I do not intend on wearing them all day for work or out. They are definitely SNOW boots. Along with these I did purchase a pair of 6 inch Bean Boots. These two pair of boots are VERY different. These are great boots if you are looking for legitimate snow boots or boots for cold, wet weather.

I purchased these boots after putting it off for half the winter. I should have bought them sooner! I have wide feet and was nervous that they wouldn't be wide enough. I did have to loosen the laces all of the way but it was a great fit once I got my foot in. I do expect the leather to loosen up as I wear them as they are a little stiff now. Over all really comfortable and warm!

After reading the reviews I opted to go with a 9, when I typically wear an 8.5 in shoes/sneakers. It's a little large, but that means I can wear heavy socks. The shaft of the boot is firm but once they are completely broken in I think they will soften up a little. They are already being used as we've had some snow in western Mass. Glad I got them!

I live in an area of NY where we receive significant snow. I need a tall, warm, waterproof boot. I just received these (October) so I have not been able to test them in the snow yet. But I wanted to note that I typically wear a 7.5 in shoes and usually order an 8 in sneakers and boots. The 8 in this boot was HUGE on me - length and width. I exchanged them for a 7. The 7 is the perfect length; however, the width is snug across the top of my foot. Not a pinchy, but snugger than a typical boot feel. I have a typical sized foot (not wide, not narrow). I am wearing them with thick wool socks. I like the snugger feeling, especially since the boot itself is 'big'. Some might find it too snug. I'm hoping these boots will last many winters.

Though they are a little bulky, this is a great boot for the price! Super warm for this frigid winter!

Quick shipping and great quality as expected! They do run big and are a bit clunky BUT I like that and I don't think it's that much different then most good quality winter boots. Very warm and practical for Maine winters!

I purchased these boots for warmth for hiking; they are wide enough in the toe box to accommodate heavier hiking socks and I can also fit my arch supports, but on top of the liner. I would have given them an excellent rating had the tread been more aggressive.
A good, warm boot for outdoor activities in the winter!

I just moved to Western NY where we get quite a bit of snow and many days with below freezing temperatures. My old Sorel boots weren't cutting it- my feet were constantly freezing no matter what types of socks I had on. These, while a bit on the clunky side (but they are snow boots after all), are a perfect fix. My feet haven't felt cold once. I highly recommend to keep your feet toasty and dry in the snow and cold!

Depending on what you need these boots for they may/may not be perfect! I wanted boots I could wear to and from work in cold, snowy weather as well as taking my kids out sledding but these boots are bulky and boxy. If you are looking for just snow boots these are warm and will keep you dry but you wont be able to wear them elsewhere, you would have to swap them out to be comfortable.

I bought these boots for my wife, who is very picky when it comes to her shoes. When putting these on, she first complained that they were tight (in width). I told her that all that insulation would mold around her feet over time, it just takes time.
Within a week, we received an unusual amount of snow (for around here), and I felt like I hit the jackpot. The temp dipped to -2 and we pulled out all of our warmest shoes/clothes. She wore her new shoes and stated that her feet were warm and dry. I was happy. We both were happy.
She decided to take a walk around our block, but some of the snow had melted and then re-froze, leaving a very slippery hill to descend on the way around the block. Down she went, and her happiness level went with it. She is not a fan of the traction these boot give on ice. Her non-insulated Vibram-soled boots did just fine on the same hill and same ice.
With some arm-twisting and sweet-talking, she has decided to keep the boots because they are definitely high quality, but if anything could be done to improve traction when on ice, she would probably consider this brand for future purchases.

I wanted to love these boots but they were wide and felt sloppy . I returned them to the store and tried on several sizes and couldn't make them work for me.

I love the color and craftsmanship of this boot and was really hoping it would work for. I returned it based on the fact that there is no tread on the bottom and would be very slippery on ice in winter and they are quite clunky and heavy. Great for a big snow but I needed something warm for everyday winter.

Nice snow boots but too short. I have very narrow feet (men's AA) and so have a time finding narrow footwear. Since very narrow men's are hard to find I tend towards women's narrow. However, most women's footwear max out at women's size 11 (Eur 43) which are on the verge of being too short for me. I returned these because they were a bit too short.

Really warm, but ended up with blisters on my calf from the tongue. Hoping as I wear them more, this issue will resolve itself.

In my opinion they appeared to be somewhat more lightweight than I expected - when I tried them in the house, because the sole/treads appear to be on the thin side, I could feel every step - and the sole was too flexible to feel like my foot had much support - similar to the fit of a cheap muck barn boot without much sole (I am not a fan of that feel/style). I did NOT try them outside - but with what felt like a thin sole, I thought it may be possible to feel the cold. They appear to be made pretty decent, other than thin sole - but for being "snow boots" I am surprised as to the lack of traction treads on bottom of sole as well.
I wear a 9.5 shoe typically and started with a size 10 of these boots. They felt narrow so I tried an 11 - they were obviously too large. Neither one was a great invitation to my foot size/shape/step.
Probably great for some - it just was not what I wanted or expected. I spend quite a bit of time outdoors - and hit the ground hard when I step - so thin/flexible sole/treads is just not a hit for me.

These are really beautiful boots but I had a couple of issues. I normally wear an 8.5 in boots so reading reviews that they run large I ordered an 8. The 8 was still too big and my heel was slipping so then I ordered a 7 which were a bit snug but could have maybe worked with thin socks (wish LL did half sizes). Second problem is that they were really stiff, heavy and clunky. I expect a bit of clunkiness given they are snow boots but these were over the top and uncomfortable to walk in. Ended up going with a different brand that is a bit more flexible and easier to walk in.

Pros: These are so warm, they kept me cozy during a full on midwest winter.
My feet swim in them and are loose at the heel even in multiple thick socks, which I kind of expected. I thought they'd be okay but I probably should have returned for a smaller size. But the real issue if how they rub my shins, I had scabs from them rubbing the skin raw where they tie. I wish I'd bought a different pair because they are clearly great boots.

This boot is insanely warm and felt so comfortable on my foot when I hadn't moved yet. Unfortunately, it's rather stiff and doesn't allow my ankle to bend and I don't think breaking it in will make a difference. I think it would be fine to just walk in (though it would change the way my steps fall) but when I tried them out in my car, I found it very difficult to maneuver around the pedals. They also make my foot look very wide, but that I don't particularly care about. I'm sticking with my 6" padded collar duck boots and will just wear extra thick socks!
I typically wear a size 8 and I ordered an 8. It fit very well.

Got these with the intention of wearing them to Alaska. The heat rating seemed appropriate and despite ordering a size that fit well with extra thick Arctic rated socks, my feet froze and the temperature wasn't even below zero. Made for a miserable vacation. That said, they fit well so now I have a pair for shoveling the driveway in the Midwest winters but honestly wouldn't recommend or by again. Glad I got these on sale and didn't pay full price.

Way too small and narrow. Had to send them back. I considered a size larger but don't enjoy the order and send back process. If I were in store, I might have gotten a pair that fit although I still feel they would have been too narrow. Too bad. Seemed like just the boot I was looking for.

The boot was so large that I thought it was mismarked. Great customer service - immediately sent me a 9 to try. Which fits, but is incredibly difficult to get on. Am returning both pairs. During my conversation with customer service (the second time) I found out that these boots - while called Bean boots - are not made by Bean. Am looking through the product description, and see nothing that indicates where they are made. Am not reordering due to fit, but will certainly think twice before ever ordering a pair of "Bean" boots again.
Buyer be-careful.

These boots appear well constructed but they are woefully inadequate for the temperatures we experience in interior Alaska. The catalog says they are rated for -45F but that is wishful thinking. They're probably fine for about 0 to -10. Sorry but cannot recommend for really cold weather!
