Having narrow feet, I waffled on this purchase for a while. I shouldn't have waited! These boots fit great with nearly no slippage while wearing mid-weight wool socks. Normally I'm an 8.5, but I sized down to the 8 and have exactly enough toe wiggle room (definitely room for heavier socks). The leather on these boots is lovely (as it should be for US bison leather) and they're extremely comfortable right out of the box. The soles have a bit of softness to them, so you aren't clomping around in these boots. Now all I need is snow!

It is worth the money to pay a little extra to get bison. I started wearing these right out of the box. I normally wear a 7 1/2 in boots. With them running big, I ordered a size 6. I could comfortably wear, but like extra room, so I gave to my daughter (she loves them and usually wears a size 6 1/2). I then ordered the size 7 and love them. They are roomy, but not too big. The bison is a softer leather than regular LLBean boots (I have them too), plus they have a higher quality look. The red soles are an added bonus.

I have been wanting a pair of Bean boots for a couple years but was hesitant because of the "breaking in" period that others talked about. I was so glad when I saw these. I was hesitant about the price but I knew it was an investment. I bought them to replace a shearling pair of boots from four years ago. I LOVE these boots! They do take a minute to get your foot in but they are so comfortable from the first wearing. The red sole and bison leather makes them look so neat and I love that they were made in Maine. The sizing is a bit big. I wear a 9 in most shoes and bought an 8 in these and they still have a bit of room to work with even with thicker socks. I'd go down a size if you order these. I have feet that are on the wider side and they feel fine, not too narrow.

The reviews were correct about size. I ordered an 8 and wear 9.5. They fit fine with a thin wool sock, however may be tight with a thick sock. A size 9 would probably be way too large. Have been wearing them around the house for a few hours and find them reasonably comfortable.

I'm often hesitant to order footwear online or through the mail, because I take a variety of sizes depending on the style. Since my normal shoe size is 8.5 to 9, I trusted others' advice and ordered an 8 here. The boots couldn't fit better -- it's as if they were made for me. Also, they're very comfortable and well-made and I bet they'll last for years. I love that they're made in USA! (Actually, that was the ultimate deal-maker.)

Love these boots. So comfortable for outside work. Wear in garden, woods, and through the mud. Well made in USA.

I was undecided for awhile about ordering these boots. I finally decided to order them & I'm so glad I did. I love these boots! They are well made & comfortable. I also like that the bison is soft & flexible. I did order 1 size smaller (although I was apprehensive at first) and they fit perfectly! Thank you L.L.Bean!

I love these boots in person even more than in the photo. They are a dark, rich looking color, and the red sole makes them super unique. I am usually a 9.5 and I ordered a 9.5 and they fit perfectly. I feel like I can wear them barefoot and be comfortable, but also I have room for a big sock. I've had BeanBoot mocs for a while, but had wanted boots for sloshier situations. Im glad I got these instead of the classic pair that everyone has.

I have wanted a pair of bean boots for a long time. I just received these as a gift and I have worn them twice. I was a little worried the first time I wore them because I know boots can take time to wear in. They were incredibly comfortable on the first wear, no breaking in necessary. The second time I wore them I was impressed by how water proof they are, we have had some ridiculous downpours and I got caught in one of them... the only part of me that wasn't drenched was my feet and ankles. These do run very big. I usually wear a size 7, occasionally a 7.5 in brands that run a little small. Rarely, I wear a 6.5, but only from companies like sperry and minetonka. My boyfriend (very nervously) got me a 6 in these on the recommendation of a sales person and they fit perfectly! I have never worn a size 6 in my adult life. When I first tried the shoes on I was a bit nervous about fit because the area around the ankle is on the narrow side so it was hard to get my foot in, but once my foot was in it fit just right. So far I have only worn them with regular socks but there is enough room for heavier socks when it gets chilly out. I personally really love how bean boots look. I grew up in New England and I just love the look of them. These are the best looking bean boot I have seen. They are darker in person than pictured, which I like, and the red sole is great. They are not the most stylish boots I own, but they are as stylish as boots this practical get. These boots look great with skinny jeans and leggings, which is really all I wear, so I am thrilled with that. They look especially good with the alternative laces (the classic orange and maroon) that come with the boots that aren't pictured. These boots are worth the money. I especially love that they are made in Maine!

I wanted a mid-calf, brown leather boot, and love this pair! I purchased two different sizes of the 10" Maine Hunting Boot (neither of which I managed to get my foot into) before buying these. They are much more comfortable than the Hunting Boots, and though I wish that they had the 10" height like the Hunting Boots, I love the red bottoms and the fact that they fit so comfortably. I recommend these to anyone.

Received my boots today (i'm in Oz) love em, but they are massive! I went down a size as advised but i could of went down another size to be honest. It will be too much to send them back and get the right size, so might have to treat myself to another pair in another colour :-)

I grew up in Texas, but at Virginia Tech these saved me. I never thought I would want shoes like this. However, there are so many reasons to get them. First, I love that these are cuter than the usual look. I can wear them under or over my jeans when my cowboy boots no longer suffice for the weather. You will want to buy a size smaller than you normally wear. I was nervous when the store lady told me that, but I tried them on with the thickest socks possible and needed the size smaller. However, you don't have to wear thick socks with these either. Just dress them up according to the weather.

These LLbean Bison boots are great for hiking in wet woods or pastures. I got the wrong size first try but didn't realize it right away, and I was so relieved they let me exchange them.

Well, I have been wanting a pair of Bean Boots for about 40 years... no kidding... but the regular ones have always been stiff and not comfy. So I took a chance on the bison reds... bison being softer leather. And love the red sole. Okay these are the best ... soft uppers feel like I can wear them right out of the box. And they feel like I am wearing slippers. Very comfortable. I paid attention to the ordering suggestions for size and ordered a size down. The fit erfedtly and I can wear them with wool winter sox. The down side is that it's summer here in rural Canada and I may have to wait for fall to really wear them but will wear them every chance I get until then. I am thrilled to have the boots I have always wanted. (And I had $10 coupons to boot.. .no pun intented)!!!

No one says how light this boot is! Though I live in Southern California, I ordered this boot for cloudy cool days, rainy days, walking the dog, after ski wear and just for the nostalgic feel of the East Coast. Love the look! Love the feel! Love how light they are! The red sole ROCKS! First day I wore them a very stylish girlfriend noticed them and remembered how she wore LLBean boots in her younger days while mucking the stalls after riding. She recalled their comfort and looked wistfully at mine. Looks like a trend maybe starting here too...

So wonderful were these boots that waiting for fall is going to be hard. I am an 8.5 true. I noticed the men's bison boot had the size down info that usual Bean boots have for sizing. Ex: light sock - 8.5 size down to 7. Some reviewers were happy w/the extra half size, but I had tried the 8 in Bean boots before & they were much too large. Took a leap of faith & ordered the 7 - glad I did. There is a nice insole in these boots & I will be able to wear a mid weight sock, or a lighter weight sock. Really cute all around, not many people I will see on the street will probably have these cute boots. In doubt? Buy them, before they are gone!

I wore these on a muddy trail today and they were great! The fit is large so I ordered one size down as instructed and they work well with an athletic sock with room enough for orthotics. The bison leather is definitely softer than the regular leather and they didn't rub on my ankle like the original boots.

Just received my first pair of hunting boots, and I could not be happier. I followed the sizing advice and purchased 8 rather than the 8.5 -9 that I usually wear. They are perfectly comfortable and I'm happy to walk home in today's rain storm since they'll keep me toasty and dry. Thanks! Now I'm considering the black ones........

These boots are comfortable because of the supple bison leather and are so distinctive looking because of the red soles. They are fabulous! Thank you again L. L. Bean for another excellent product!

Right out of the box my boots were ideal. The sales person in store who helped me was great! Size runs a bit large consider your smaller size. Wore them every day for a week (it's mud season and were building a home on the coast). Fit was great, feet stayed dry, bison leather extremely soft.

I got these in the store, so that I could try on different sizes and different models. I normally take an 8 - 8 1/2 size shoe, and the size 8 boot was perfect. The bison is much softer than the standard leather and has a nice, retro look. Excellent!

It fits well, is easy to tie and easy to get on and off. I wore them on a 30 degree day on the coast of Maine with a thick wool sock and my feet were warm and comfy. It is stylish and looks small on the foot. Definitely order one size down from your regular shoe size. I went to the Freeport store to get the Hundred Anniversary boot (order this one shoe size down also) which is offered till years end. I own the shearling lined 16 inch knee high and thought I'd get the anniversary boot but saw this and got it instead. I'll get the anniversary boot later. The Bison 8" is quite a find at a fair price. The color goes with everything. I'll wear these forever!

I've worn these only once but it was enough to know that I will like these boots. They were comfortable and looked nice. I've been having some foot pain lately and these felt like slippers on my feet. I normally wear a 81/2 to 9 so ordered one size down to an 8, which worked out just fine. I even have enough room to slide in some basic orthotics.

I love these boots! The first day I wore these boots, I put them on at 7:00 am, and took them off at midnight! 17 hours of comfort without 'any' break in period. The bison leather is soft and comfortable from the very start. These boots come with two sets of laces, one dark, and one lighter in color. The shorter length makes them easy to pull on and off. Great comfort, great style, and great price! - Classic LL Bean! - And, the red soles are very, very cool!

The design of the sewed-down tongue makes it unable to lie flat. It also makes the boot a little harder to get on without unlacing it most of the way down. The true test will come this summer when I wear them on a month-long wilderness canoe trip.
