I bought these shoes for a long backpack after reading a great review. I have wide feet and wanted some cushion, a low drop, and a very flexible upper. I was disappointed that the W width felt no wider than a regular width on other shoes I’ve used - Altra, Hoka, Merrill. The shoes seemed long for their size but did not provide much toe room because the toe box comes to a pronounced point. The heel was also too wide and I slipped out of it with each step. Overall an unusable shoe for me. Unfortunately I had to take them outside for a hike to discover just how poor a fit they were for me and could not return them.

I have worn the Speedgoat shoe for a couple of years now. The shoe is very true to fit for me and the quality is wonderful. The shoe is a high end of sports equipment and it will provide a wonderful ride, but the trade off is, if used full time it only last 3-6 months depending on your use. For me the quality, feel, and workmanship are all worth the price. My shoes get about 150 miles per month. I highly recommend this shoe for training and/or casual use.
I'd also recommend:
the only brand of training shoe I wear is Hoka!

First pair of Hokas and they did not disappoint. Took them out for a 6 mile walk today and they performed great. I’ll be using them on the trail this fall and winter. I usually wear a medium width but went with a wide as many people recommended. The wide is perfect on my feet with this shoe, the shoe size stayed the same. Lightweight and comfortable.

I own the bondi 6 8.5 mens in EE wide and D (regular) . I have a lot of extra room. It’s more important for trail runners to fit roomy and these are tighter than the EE wide in my he Bondi’s. I definitely need to size up, they were tight with out socks on.

This is my second pair of Hoka shoes. I had the Hoka One's that I loved, but my activity has transitioned to more hiking and less running. I read all of the reviews and watched a couple of YouTube videos on the Speedgoat 5's and it sounded like the right shoes for me. They have not disappointed so far. Out of the box they had a great fit and were very comfortable. I have not had the chance to take them on the trail yet, but just walking locally they seem like they are going to be just as described. I continue to be pretty impressed with the Hoka brand shoes, and would definitely recommend these.

I'll say after my last speed goats I wanted to try something else. It wasn't because of ANYTHING other than the price. I'm cheap and well shoes are not. I tried so many shoes with "comparable" features that my friends think I test shoes for a living. There's a reason these cost what they cost YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET. Traction is one of the best out there. It's so good that the tackiness of the Mega Grip can get annoying walking through a grocery store (if you know you know). I personally like the new tongue and materials. The cushion doesn't seem as plush as previous versions, but it's still pretty dang good.
I will remain a HOKA customer for life. Let's talk about more clothing options though.

I have been trying to find a Hoka shoe that I fall in love with, this one has almost done it. I bought the Clifton Edge for road running in Arizona. The soul of the shoe might have lasted 100 miles, very disappointed with the durability. The comfort was top notch! Then I bought the Torrent 2, again, comfort is not an issue. I did some hybrid running but mostly trail. This shoe also only lasted about 100 miles.
Maybe because I live in Southern Arizona and run a lot of rocky trails, the shoes don't last. The same thing is already happening with the Speedgoat 5. It just doesn't seem like it is going to last and I probably only have about 20 miles on it so far. I feel like all of your trail shoes could have better midsole protection, as well as, more toe and heel cap protection.

Found the speed goat five to be an exceptional shoe, actually fitting much better than the four which I have fully loved running in. The new shoe is lighter, softer, and easier on the long runs in my opinion. I hesitated purchasing due to some of the reviews however while they are clear on several of the features, none of these affected performance which is what matter to me.

Definitely felt narrower than the many D-widths I've wore for decades. I'm hoping it stretches out.

I liked the shoe, but found it a bit too tight for me in the toe box. Otherwise I would have probably been very satisfied with the shoe.

So these shoes are great for my back and knees, however they easily tear on the top part. I wish that Hoka would put as much technology in the top as they do the bottom.

The perfect trail running shoe for me.... great cushion and support, but not squishy or floaty. And the Vibram sole is great for protecting from rocks and uneven terrain. The heel cup is well cushioned and unlike many other shoe brands, does not chafe my heel. Also the toe box is a bit wider than my Hoka Clifton 9 (as well as similar shoes from Brooks and On), so an overall great fit.

Previously owned the Challenger 7. Was let down a little from Hoka. These Speedgoat 5’s erased any doubt about Hoka’s. Some shoes feel okay when you first try them on, feel you need to break them in. Not these, I felt like I could run a marathon within the first 5 seconds. Extremely comfortable shoe!!

These shoes are great. I tried 4 other pairs of various brands before landing on HOKA. Fortunately, they are not as clunky as some Hokas can be. Color is a nice blend of sage green w/ light gray which adds up to neutral which I like. The only thing I wish was different is that they had a padded tongue. The fabric seems a bit fragile for such a well built shoe. I hiked in them on my second day of wear. These shoes have a stable base...a plus. I did insert Powerstep insoles for comfort which are pricey, but well worth it for the comfort they provide. I usually wear 8.5/39 but an 8 fits just fine. Zappos customer service is tops !!

I walked the camino de santiago from pamplona to santiago in these shoes (443 miles in varied terrain, some rocky, some gravel, some roads, and lots of rain and mud), after previously training for 100 miles in them. They made it through with enough tread intact to use them when I got back home. They were a little narrower than I would have liked for an extra wide. But, very close to perfect. They dry quickly as well.

Great shoe. It's the only Hoka shoe I can wear anymore, since they narrowed the midsole on their running shoes (Bondi, Clifton). The last time I wore a Clifton 8, I got a bruise on the side of my foot due to their sizing change. If Hoka narrows the midsole on the Speedgoat, I'll have to change brands. I hope they don't change it, it fits me perfectly.

Got these shoes in last week and wore them yesterday to a football game. Did 13,000 steps and not a bit of trouble. May have to branch out and get more colors now

You need three things in a trail runner - lightweight, comfortable fit, great ventilation. The SpeedGoat5 has all of those. Grippy on loose trails, great support around your foot, dries fast when dry, keeps your feet cool and super lightweight. I love 'em!

I love these. I bought men’s wide 8.5 and they are so great. I’ve worn them everyday. Good support and in fact I think better support than the Bondi 7. Thanks for good customer service

I was looking for a trail hiking shoes for training in preparation for my 30 day walk ( Camino Frances ) in Spain on June 21. 2023 - July 21, 2023 and found this pair and gave it a try. I wore it for 3 weeks in flat and incline and to my surprised it was perfect no pain or swelling of my feet so I bought another one on a different color just in case. Overall I just love these in fact I have few more Paris on different styles. Thank you HOKA you made my life easier

I have wide feet, wear a 9.5 EE. I use these for hiking, very comfortable, feels like riding on clouds with great response when going up or down hills. I went up a half size 10 EE as I like the extra room in the toe area, fits comfortable. The upper mesh has more give than prior version, which is good for my wide feet. Let’s just see how long they last.
