Really like the light weight and breathability of these shoes. They fit very snug and have a narrow footbed. They are very well ventilated so do not plan to wear these in any wet conditions. The soles have excellent traction for climbing light inclines.

Wanted something with aggressive lugs for the English fells in winter. These looked ideal, far more aggressive than the other SG shoes. Trying them on at home, the fit felt perfect. Walking around the house, however, and I could feel the narrowness in the midfoot against the bony protrusion that my 5th metatarsal gives me on outside of each foot about halfway down. Now, I do normally feel some pressure here with all my shoes, but with the Cross 2 it was actually painful as I walked, almost like a grinding. My guess is that it's exactly at the line where the outsole material comes up the side of the shoe and stops, just unlucky for my foot shape and this shoe I guess. Shame, as otherwise I thought they would be perfect. Scoring 4/5 because otherwise I think this shoe would have been perfect. I don't have particularly narrow feet, I was quite surprised how roomy they felt inside considering how small they look on the outside, but the bony bit on my foot was the showstopper for me. I took a 10.5 which is the same size as my S/Lab Ultra 3s. I take an 11 in the Sense Ride, Wildcross and Ultra /Pro.

Everything is good except the opening at the top. Its a struggle to put your feet inside. I already ordered 1-inch bigger than my usual size based on the picture, but still difficult to wear.

At the beginning, this was the best shoes I had for running. Fantastic snug fit, good grip, light, and comfy. Unfortunately only after two runs button of the shoe Worn out. Dissatisfied with the quality. This is the first Salomon shoes I had problem with.

I purchased these sneakers for trail walking and while they are a nice fit, they are almost impossible to get on. I understand they are to be tight around your ankle, but this is ridiculous. They go on easier if you don't wear socks, but ya gotta wear socks. Also, the sole is very thin, and I find sharp stones seem to drive into your foot.

I don't do Trial Running, I compete in Agility Dog, at World level. Trial running shoes are used A LOT in our Sport, outdoor as well as indoor! I buy Salomon by over 20 years: Xa Pro, Speedcross, Fellcross, Slab Speed, several versions of each. I don't understand why the S-Lab Speed 2 are just discontinued without a sequel (Speed 3??!?). It's okay if you won't improve something that is already perfect. But please keep it available!!! I bought all the Fellcross, and then the sequel Speed 1 and 2 the Speed 1 have big holes, but I still use them sometimes in light training. The last Speed 2 I have, I'm keeping as GOLD, just for big events, and praying they last a bit more longer, until I find my next shoes.

I hate it when companies discontinue good products. Only to create a new fancier looking shoe with no real improvement. This is more a soccer ballerina shoe for turf. As you can read, I'm disappointed and prefer the older version, less fancy, but more grip and traction and much better on harder and rockier ground. Please bring back the good stuff! Also, if you are ever need advise of an Ultra Runner knowing what is needed on ice and snow. Believe me I'm the person to talk too.

I have gone through a couple pairs of the original S/Lab Cross shoes, and I love them. This new version has two big design flaws that make them worse: 1. The originals had nice seamless uppers. Super comfortable and durable. But for this new version they added two seams, so you can feel the stitching on both sides of each foot. 2. The originals had a long gap between the outer layer of the upper and the sock/gaiter (along the lace loops), so small rocks and grit could find their way in there, but you could just tip them upside down and shake them to get it to fall out. On this new version, they eliminated most of that gap, but left about 2 cm of gap on each side, so small rocks and grit can still get in there, but now it's almost impossible to get it out.

I enjoy running in these shoes but the major drawback is that the sock like fit is separate from the matryx upper. This may not sound like much of an issue. But when you're running on wet, sandy or dusty dirt like conditions, the build up of mud, stones and sand etc collect between these two materials like a pocket adding firstly weight and discomfort as it can feel like a stone sitting above your feet or just grit, but also just effort to clean them out afterwards. As mentioned in my previous reviews, Salomon get things right but also fail on certain aspects and I wish they would listen to their community more. In the end we are the real world users. Photos to show the pocket areas and build up of dirt/grit Future iterations I'd suggest sewing the sock and upper to be one piece and solving the issue of debris build up around the foot box.

I could hardly get my foot into the shoe because the sock opening was too narrow. Once my foot was in, the shoe felt comfortable enough, but the struggle and tugging necessary to get it there made the shoes unappealing.

I bought a couple pairs of the s-lab speed 2 a few years ago and they have lasted two UK fell seasons (one training and races) the uppers are still in great condition. After tread lost its bite I asked Salomon if they were planning a speed 3 but they directed me to this shoe, pretty much disintegrated in under a month so just got the speed 2's a new tread. Just make the speed 2's every year. They're such a great aggressive fell/mountain shoe.
