Bought this jacket for my husband who is always cold and we live in Michigan. He absolutely loves it. He has never had a jacket keep him so warm. Would definitely recommend this jacket!

I am amazed how this coat is a combination of warm, yet so lightweight. Great fit and comfortable too.

The pictures don't do justice to how thick this coat is. I bought it thinking it might work as a winter every day coat but it's really designed for something like Minnesota or somewhere where the high temp is going to be in the 20's. This coat is thick enough to work in the 0-20 degree range. It's very comfortable, the hood fits well, and the material is great, but it's way too thick for the weather around Portland, OR.

I bought this from TNF Renewed. Had been looking for a deal but with what a great value they are, that never happens. I found the McMurdo by googling for "warmest jacket for sitting still." This and the one named after the northern birds that bring down planes were the highest recommended. However those are over $1,000 and aren't nearly as durable as TNF. The MSRP on this McMurdo is the highest of all my non-merino clothing. I'm glad I bit the bullet, because I'm cold-natured and had been suffering, particularly the last 2 winters after losing 100 lbs.
Loves:
1. Warmth. I've only tested this down to upper 30s, but was able to sit outside and not move with only a t-shirt underneath. It'll be in the 20s next week so I'll update (if possible) if that changes.
2. Breathable. Despite being very warm when it's cold, I wore it inside at 68 and was comfortable with just the zip open. That said, I am very cold-natured and have my heat set to 74 in winter.
3. Detachable hood fur. Could see it being useful when I'm visiting Canada, but in NC it just gets in my eyes.
4. Large lined chest pockets for wet gloves.
5. Value. As said above, MSRP is less than 1/3 of what I would've paid for the competitor.
Dislikes:
1. Exterior pockets (besides the chest ones) aren't lined with soft material, so when I'm not wearing gloves they aren't comfortable. However, none of the pockets are in a good position to rest your hands anyway (none are angled upwards or at the right position/level to rest your hands with your arms at a right angle) so I don't do this much.
2. Fit isn't my favorite. It looks a little frumpy, but that is somewhat to be expected given the amount of insulation and at this price point. To be lighter, they'd probably need to use less higher-fill-power down, which would be more expensive. I'm usually a S or XS in most things (I have a runner's physique: 37" chest, 30" waist, 36" hips) and prefer a tight fit. I got a S and have a ton of space under if I'd want to layer. I'd prefer to have an option for an XS.
3. Wish the Velcro sleeves were buttons. Dog hair attaches to the Velcro.
Honestly apart from fit I'm really nit-picking. I'd definitely buy this again and have already recommended it to a friend who has a similar physique and cold nature.

Beautiful, well designed coat. I like the coat a lot for the most part. The coat is warm however I strongly dislike the ostentatious, gigantic, oversized logos front and back. The size of the logo front and back is just plain ridiculous. I am not a big fan of the velcro cuffs on an expensive coat.

I bought this jacket for my fianc for Christmas and he absolutely loved it. The color is unique. He can wear it with only a tshirt under and he will be just fine. It is extremely comfy. This is currently his fave winter jacket.

Insulation is first rate. Incredibly warm. The wind-proofing is also first rate. I have been in wet snow conditions, and this coat sheds the water, keeping you dry. So good water-proofing. I cannot praise the exterior of the coat and its functions enough.
I had a **t-shirt** underneath the coat, and I was warm and comfortable in 9 degree (F) weather, along a coast, with a strong wind. Wind chill was sub zero by a material amount. Didn't notice a chill. That is performance!
As for other items, the hand pockets located at chest and waist level are lined, warm, and well-placed. The hood's fur lining snaps on and off. (The fur-lining snaps let a bit of wind through the rim, but not a huge deal unless you are in high winds.) The Velcro-cuffing at sleeve ends is better and more useful than I expected. I prefer that now, as opposed to ribbed cuffs.
The interior "key/phone" pocket should be accessible from outside the main zipper, but not a huge flaw. More preference than necessity.
WHY I GAVE IT THREE STARS. What stinks about this coat: the coat material near the zippers frequently gets caught in the zippers, leading to zipper-binding. I attached pics to show the material I am scorning.
The zippers can be so bound up by this nearby material you cannot move the zipper, and you have to yank the zipper to get it to move, risking tears in the material or breaking the zipper. This is a huge, huge flaw. Enough that I probably would have to tell people to look at other coats without this design flaw.
I expect my coat will eventually tear at one of these points in the next few years, or a zipper will break. That design flaw alone takes from 5 stars to 3. How did the coat designers not contemplate and plan for this? It is like something I used to see in cheap coats decades ago.
It is like designing a Porsche, and using cheap finish components that will make a great engine hard to use.

The material next to the inside zipper pocket got caught in the zipper. It broke the zipper.
I had to literally cut through the fabric with a large knife in order to open the zipper and get my wallet and other items out of the coat pocket. The material effectively locked up the zipper.
A new coat and I have to cut it up to get the pocket open.
Garbage design.

Very nice warm jacket I have one for last 20 years. I was working on construction I use this jacket every day. ,It's very heavy material. You're not gonna rip it off and it's nice and warm ,so I will recommend it. It's no good to go to church but on construction site perfect, the only reason that I buy second jacket because is too small so I need size bigger otherwise that all the jacket is in the perfect condition there was no problems

This is the warmest jacket I have ever owned. I've been wearing it while snowboarding on cold, stormy days over the past few weeks, and I only needed a T-shirt underneath. It's more waterproof than I expected, and the shell fabric feels thick and durable. Overall, it's a great purchase!

Great looking jacket and really warm. Didn't suffer any cold during -15 C weather up in Canada. Relaxed fit so you can layer up. More on the bulkier side but really nice.

I bought this coat for my son. He loves it and the many pockets it's has. He doesn't have to wear a scarf due to the hood. It protects him from the wind especially in the face. The coat is a 10/10!

Amazingly warm and good length. I only wore this a couple of times this winter since I got it in mid February but as a New York commuter, waiting on the train platform at 6 am in the cold and wind, the jacket was a life saver.

The Men's McMurdo Parka is an excellent winter coat for those needing serious warmth and weather protection. It's ideal for cold climates, urban commuting, and outdoor excursions. While it is bulky and runs large, its warmth, durability, and stylish design make it a great investment for winter.

Great jacket - ultimately had to return because of a more affordable option. But the fit and warmth is great.
