I love my Torin 4.5s and need a new pair, but can't find any, so I figured I had to go with the 5. But I saw all the reviews about the tongue problems w/ the 5 and chickened out. When I saw they came out with this "Luxe" version I figured Altra has seen the reviews and fixed the tongue! But NO. The tongue pokes into the front of my leg. I could cut it, I guess, but just on principle I refuse to cut a brand new pair of pricey shoes. Please Altra, just bring back the Torin 4.5.

My search has been long and arduous, but it is finally over! Like many who grew up in the 50s & 60s, I ruined my feet with stiletto heels and pointed toes. In the past year my feet have begun to rebel with arthritis, hammer toes, a bunion and bone spur at the base of the bunion. It became apparent I needed a much wider toe box than on any brand shoe in my closet. I won't list all the various brands or companies whose shoes I ordered and returned. I was beginning to think that I would never find a shoe that would not cause the bone spur to hurt. Then I happened on a web site that does not sell shoes, they only review them! It is called Run Trails.org and is mainly there for people who are dedicated runners which I am not! But they touted a number of shoes having wide toe boxes with links to Amazon, but I chose to shop at Zappos instead. I ordered 3 different styles in the Altra brand and one other in Asics, all in my 9.5 size. Two of the Altras (Escalante 2-5 and Superior 4.5) did not fit. The Asics GT-2000 9 was definitely not wide enough. Altra Torin 5 Luxe fit but felt a bit short so I called Zappos Customer Service to discuss getting a 10 to compare to the 9.5. I hit the jackpot when Wendy answered the call. I have never had such a knowledgeable person in any customer service section before! She is a treasure-trove of information. When the size 10 shoes arrived I spent several hours comparing the fit between the two sizes and decided on the larger size. All the others have been returned to Zappos and I am a very satisfied customer! The heel to toe drop is not as great as any of the other shoes I tried over the months but I have easily gotten used to it. The toe box is perfect and the heel cup fits my medium width foot. There are only 2 negatives, but I can live with them. #1 they only come in navy and #2 there is no little loop at the back of the shoe to help in putting them on. If Altra added a loop to this very expensive shoe and gave some color options, it would be a perfect shoe in my opinion. Thank you, Zappos, for your generous shipping and trial policy and especially for your outstanding customer service!

Marathon runner here. I have hallux limitus and had surgery for it in November. I ran the NYC marathon in November in the Torin 4.5 plush. The Torin 5 luxe has a much more comfortable tongue and upper. The sole is not quite as cushioned as the 4.5 and 5 plush which is sad. I have been running in them for about 2 weeks with a 15 mile long run this past Sunday and they performed well. I will probably buy a second pair.

What great shoes. This is my second pair of Torins, having worn out a pair of 2.5s. I last purchased HIIT XT 2s but they were never quite as comfortable, and a recent ankle issue made that very clear. I wanted a new pair to walk my daughter's dog while visiting her, so I ordered these for delivery to her home, and hoped they'd be comfortable before I left. They were comfortable from the moment I put them on, despite bunions on both feet (one quite severe) and the ankle issue. I've walked an average of 12,500 steps a day in the past week. As for sizing, having ordered Altras before, I knew to order a half size up. Fit perfectly. The shoes look good, and are soft and comfortable. Keep making those Torins.

I have the Torin Knit, which is the previous version of this shoe. They are super comfy and I love how soft and stretchy the upper is, especially compared to other road shoes. They are wide, but that's what I want from an Altra! However, I've only run ~100 miles in mine and the soles of the shoe look destroyed. They seem to have reinforced the wrong parts of the sole and the outer areas only have soft foam left instead of rubber. Definitely disappointed, I expect my shoes to last at LEAST to 300 miles. Not sure if I got a bad pair or if these are just lower quality than my previous Altras.

These shoes have so much cushion, it is like walking on clouds! I've ordered my second pair and will be able to alternate them daily. Was skeptical about them at first but after walking on tile files for one day, I was SOLD!!!!!

I have enjoyed 4 pairs of the Torin 4.0, and my favorite Altra is the Escalante 1.5. I was hoping this Torin 5 Luxe would be like a cushioned Escalante, what with the Altra EGO Max midsole foam, mesh upper, and wide toe box. It came very close. The problems I had were the padded collar, which rubbed my ankles, and the thicker tongue, which to me, had an odd shape. I really liked the look of these shoes and was sorry they didn't work for my feet. As I do have boney ankles, I am sure this shoe will become a favorite for many Altra fans!
I'd also recommend:
only Altra!

Bought these shoes because of toe problems and they worked great, no more pain. Ordered a second pair and could not figure out why they were causing pain until I measured them against the first pair and discovered that they were narrower. I see that you have cut down the width. WHY??? People buy these for a reason and that's because of the wide toe box. You can buy a good pair of running shoes anywhere. You know the old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it. That wide toe box is part of your success. If you're going to change that, I'll have to look elsewhere. The very least you should do is offer the original footbed as an option, or offer it in wide.

My husband bought me these shoes for Christmas. I've been struggling with plantar fasciitis and need to wear shoes all the time. These were almost exclusively worn around the house but every day, all day. They are so comfortable and I loved them. But after only a little over two months of wear, there is a hole in the fabric part where my big toe is. I'm so disappointed. I wouldn't purchase again.

Torin's are my favorite Altra's. I've had 3 pairs of these & the bottom piece of sole on these comes detached within 10 wears. It's no secret that the Altra quality has suffered recently but CS helps.

I am not a runner; I have RA and my feet suffer with pain and stiffness. I have looked for years for a comfortable walking shoe with 0 drop. Torin 5 Luxe fit my needs perfectly. I am able to walk with ease and my feet are well supported. I do not see myself ever buy a different brand of athletic shoe.

I have purchased a variety of sneakers from multiple orthopedic shoe companies but continue to have pain while wearing them. The Torin 5 Luxe was recommended with it's wider toe box because it alleviates bunion pain. The comfort of the cushion and the shape of the heel also aide in the comfort of this unique shoe. I needed no break in period, no bunion cushion bandages, and no heel bandages for blisters while wearing them for eight days of walking 20k steps daily in Disney. I have continued to wear them daily since my return. This was unheard of when I wore other shoes. I would need to alternate to alleviate the pressure points on my feet Thank you for giving me my ability to distance walk again.

I am recovering from a back injury and I noticed a friend wearing a pair of your shoes. I liked the shape of the toe box. They have changed my life! Very little pain and have help me repair my gait.

Ahhh, the toe box! Generous, comfy! I’d previously been devoted to Brooks Glycerin, but they seem to have narrowed a bit in recent updates.

This shoe is wide and has a lot of space vertically within the shoe which is useful for adding orthotics. My foot is not pinched when I add an orthotic because of the vertical space. Not all Altras are this way. They are breathable. Good stability. The cool gray and navy are attractive for cool skin tones and don't look like your dads white leather sneakers from the 90s. I hope altra makes these forever. I wear them exclusively 100% of the time

I was scared to buy these after the reviews about the tongue, but I love Altra more than any other brand for running shoes and decided it was worth it. I bought the navy blue pair and absolute love the look and feel of them. In my opinion, these are the same as the Torin 4.5 but more stylish. I have a narrow foot, and these laces work great for me and there is no bunching at the top of my shoe. 1000000/10, do not be scared to buy!

My doctor recommended these shoes when I told him I would probably need bunion surgery soon. He said to try these first. They are so comfortable! My bunions have stopped hurting and they look great!

I use these shoes for everyday wear. I love the wide toe box. All my life I have had shoes that pinched my toes as I have a boxy foot. These fit like a perfect glove. These shoes have the right amount of cushion, not too high at all. I love the material and also the groves in the upper shoe, making it look highend. And the shoe laces are very nice, going well with the design. I cannot think I one thing I don't like about these shoes. I would like to get another pair but I can only find my 9.5 size in the lighter blue.

I love the shoes. They are very comfortable for walking. I'm not a long haul walker, as I only walk one to three miles a day with my dog. The only negative thing is that I feel the tongue is too long and it tends to slide toward the outside of my foot.

Love these! The zero drop and toe box have saved my running - I have a Morton's neuroma and this has been the only Altra shoe that doesn't aggravate it. The other, newer, Torins (not Luxe, so different material) feel smaller/tighter in the toe box despite being the same size. Only request....please make these in more colors (bold/brighter or deeper shades)!

I first purchased Altra shoes postpartum because my feet changed in pregnancy and I needed wider toe space. After 3 years in those, I needed a new pair and now I have these. I've worn them for a month and they are just as comfortable as my first pair. Very pleased. I wear them as my daily shoes so they put up with lots of wear on various surfaces.

These are extremely comfortable shoes. I wear them every day and already purchased a second pair. The wide toe box has done wonders for my toes which had been squeezed by my former shoes.
