I was to start by saying that I have been running in Torins for a couple years now. I got the new version because my old ones are way past their mileage. The first couple runs in them we're ok but I noticed the tongue would slightly rub against the top of my foot. Since then it's only gotten worse. Last weekend I ran 10 miles and every mile or so I had to readjust the tongue so it wouldn't hurt so bad. I knew it was rubbing but just kept going and when I got home I took my shoe off to see the top of my foot was all purple and bruised. I've been running for over 10 years now and have never had this type of issue. I'm having to take this week off because my foot hurts too much to wear shoes but I'm afraid to even put the shoes back on. I'll probably have to go buy another pair so I can keep running.

Same experience as other reviewers here, they are not a durable shoe for the cost. I bought a pair of Torin 5's, two days later, the tread started separating from the sole of the shoe. That should have been my warning sign. I was able to take those back to FleetFeet to exchange. Received a new pair, just over a month later, same issue, Outside 30 day exchange from FleetFeet, so I sent an email to the Warranty group, no response. I get that shoes will wear down, but for the cost of this pair of shoes, I expected more. I have moved on from other brands like Brooks for the same reason. Gave Altra a chance, but not again. Back to Hoka.

I've been using the shoes as work shoes at my elementary school. After 2 months of playing with my students, the sole wore down and I got holes on the toes. Today, after 4 months the side blew out. I teach elements school, it wasn't running 10 miles a day on them. I could forgive the toe holes, but blowing out the side is too much. Would not buy again.

This shoe was amazing for the first part of it's shortened life. I love the Width and the feel, but the build is terrible and upon me planting my foot to turn the entire side stitching ripped and torn completely open. Upon working with Customer service they said this was simple wear and tear and offered a 40% discount on a new pair of shoes. As much as I loved this shoe at first this has left a bad taste in my mouth and now I have to say that I will most likely never open another pair of Altras. :(

I've had many Torin and Torin Plush, probably 7 or more over the years. It was my go-to daily shoe. I could tell the tongue was funny on the test run, but I love the underfoot feel and bought them anyway. Really disappointed in the change to the tongue, ripped up the front of my ankle within a mile of my first run in them. Next day tried a higher sock and a bandage, but that stiff tongue continued to tear me up. Not sure how this made it through R&D. Returned the shoes. I'll try the Rivera 2.

The tongue as others have pointed it out is ridiculous. Did they not test these before just throwing them up for sale? The previous version was perfect and as usual Altra ruined them. Why do they keep doing this? They have done this with several models. The Instinct is an example. That shoe hooked me on Altra and after 3 great versions they ruined it and now they don't even make it anymore. Weird.

The tongue cuts into your ankle no matter how short of a jog.

Disappointed with the Torin 5. Worn Torins last few years, this model was a half size too small and the tongue cut into my ankles. Stuck with shoe I can't run in, will have to switch to something different.

If you want your ankles cut up then buy the shoe the tongue of the shoe is weirdly a hard plastic edge The shoe is perfect except for one thing the tongue of the shoe is made with the weird plastic edge unnecessarily and it starts to cut at your ankles I wish they could just give it a regular athletic tongue that's usually thicker and has cushion why ALTRA chose to give it an ultra thin plastic edged tongue makes no sense to me

I have never returned shoes b4, but (as others state) the tongue is a razor blade that sliced both feet. Local ultra shop recommended cutting tongue out as they have w other customers. Not when I pay $$$ for Altra shoes.
Torrin 4.5 were best running shoes I have had (20yrs of running, multiple marathon+ runner). Stop screwing with a good shoe.
To Altra's credit they exchanged a pair of Luxes for these poorly designed shoes.
Hopefully they have heard our complaints and will return to a better design in the 6s.

What a let down. I have always trusted Altra for my running shoes both trail and road. This shoe was small and the tongue was digging just putting it on. Nothing like all the others I have bought

I really enjoy the fit of this shoe - especially the extra forefoot room - but I'm really disappointed how quickly the tread is wearing out. I purchased these shoes in early December 2021 and only average about 5 miles a week. Tread should not be an issue at this relative low mileage especially for a $100+ pair of shoes.

I've been wearing Altra running shoes for six years and this is the least durable shoe I've ever worn. The sole and roe are falling apart after one month of regular use. This is the second pair that has fallen apart so quickly. I own a group fitness studio and have put at least 50 people in Altra shoes. I'll never recommend them again if I don't get some sort of reimbursement.

Should have listened to reviews. Tongue cuts into top of ankle. Feels cheaply made.

I am a Altra fan and ran using Altra brand for the past 7 years. However, this is the WORST shoe. The tongue is like a razor blade. If you wear low socks, watch out. It will cut into your skin.

As a fan of Pearl Izumi zero drop shoes, Altra was the obvious alternative after Pearl Izumi went back to being a bicycle specialist company.
A pair of the TIMPs did not disappoint for trail running. The Escalante 2.5 were okay. A running store employee talked me into the Torin 5 recently and my experience has been awful.
As stated my times before by others, the tongue is pure vanity and lacks basics usability. Bloody ankles isn't my idea of a "good run." Did y'all test these out at all or did you just let some shoe designer run buck wild?
Additionally, the fibers used to make the uppers feel thin. The fibers of the Escalante 2.5 felt like they could take a beating, but the uppers on the Torin 5 are already fraying on the front after...7 five mile runs
I wouldn't even recommend this shoe to my enemy.
Are y'all struggling and cutting corners because of the pandemic or is this shoe evocative of who Altra is? Do better.

Why is altra no longer footshape? Between abandoning footshape and producing poor quality from my last 2 pairs, I can no longer support Altra. Bye Altra! Hopefully Topo doesn't lose its roots as well.

This is my third pair of Torin shoes from Altra. I have loved the prior iterations however I have no idea how they let this pair come to market. I purchased them off the website assuming I wouldn't have a problem with them however the tongue is thin and sharp as so many others have mentioned.
I went for one, 2 mile run, and by the end of the run I had two slices on my ankles that were bleeding where the tongue was rubbing. However, I must say I will give Altra 5 stars for their amazing customer service as I am returning them however the shoes are unwearable.

Altra should stop producing new colors and focus on improving the quality of the Torin.
- Too narrow in forefoot
- Tongue digs into ankle
- Poor quality materials used in the sole

Loved previous Altras, however the Torin 5 has a plastic tongue that will literally cut your leg while running. This is only a problem in the new model, definitely DO NOT recommend.

The tongue digs deep into the legs. Very bad design. Please bring back the original and comfortable tongue design that is soft and padded. WORST version of the Torin ever!!!

Loved the Torin 4.5 plush. Bought three pair, should have bought ten. The torin 5 is not plush, the tongue is brutal. My left foot hurt so bad I had to sale them. Very dissapointing.
