I've been running with my friend Escalante for a while. And yes the 2.5 is a pretty tasty foot chariot, but, and this is a big butt, it can't touch this shoe. It is so hecking fun to wear. The sole has a different sound to it when it hits the pavement. A perfectly pitched drum beat that makes you stop thinking about the physicality of running and allows you to zone out and just BE. I swear I'm sober right now but this shoe feels like it's part of my foot and I'm standing in a creamy bowl of mashed potatoes. I can't wait for my next run

Its true that this shoe is not designed for marathon running, but I have always had difficulty finding the right shoe for my training and runs. I bought the Torin 5 Luxe (black) not intending to run in them so much, but rather to use them more for day-to-day activities. They were comfortable enough that I started taking them on longer and longer runs, and eventually ran a marathon in them. I'm not great about getting new shoes when my old ones get too old - the soles get very worn down before I finally go and purchase new shoes. So I went on the Altra website today to buy new ones, and saw some of the negative reviews of these shoes and felt compelled to write a review. Mine have lasted through countless long training runs and 3 marathons, one of which was a trail marathon. The soles are very worn down, which is to be expected. The rest of the shoe has held up very well, I don't have any parts of the shoe coming unglued, no holes, no flapping. I love Altras - they fit my foot better, they don't feel stiff, and don't have excessive padding that interrupts my running gait. They don't feel heavy on my foot. I would buy these again and again.

One run in and I can't wait to run again in these shoes. I'm coming from the Torin 4.5 which was great. I tried the Torin 5 in the store but the tongue is a disaster. The Luxe tongue is padded enough that is doesn't bother my ankle. This shoe is extremely comfortable and well padded. It's going to be my go to long run shoe. I also run in the Lone Peak and Escalante. The Luxe makes for a great addition to my rotation.
Please Altra, don't mess this up. When you go to a version 6 just change the colors to keep it fresh. Leave everything else alone!

Very comfy. Love the foam/rubber compound. Love the shoe material. I think their earlier shoes had too sloppy of a toe-box. They've cleaned them up nice. However, the small toe/outer toe area of these toe-boxes are rubbing. A tad too narrow. I can't believe I'm saying this about an Altra shoe, but...

These good looking shoes will be for dress only at this time, before being put into rotation with my three other pairs of Altra shoes. The Foot Shape toe box is perfect and the cushion insole feels like walking on air.

Shoe feels great however just about like everyone is saying, not even 2 months in and the bottom treads are starting to peel off! Hoping that a little glue can hold them together? For the feel of these shoes though they feel amazing!!

I loved the Escalantes I bought a few years back, but the cushioning wasn't as much as I wanted for longer walks, so I bought a couple of pairs of Torin Luxe 5s. They have been excellent for me, with none of the issues others have described. They're not as lightweight as the Escalantes, which I still prefer for driving and for shorter outings (more stylish, lighter weight), but they're great for longer walks or hikes where I don't need my (Altra) hiking shoes.
After several decades of wearing traditional sneakers, I will never go back. The wider toe box has been a revelation, and I don't understand why that hasn't caught on more quickly with other brands. Is symmetry really more important than comfort? I'm assuming the zero drop is what has helped me with the pain I was having in the soles of my feet, but this is hard to be certain about. I am definitely a convert, and convinced my wife to be one, too.

I use them as an athletic leisure shoe. I can wear them in the office and for my daily walk. They're the most comfortable shoe that I own.

I have problem feet. These shoes are the most comfortable I've been able to find in a wider than average toe box, and believe me, I've purchased and returned quite a few recently. The cushion helps a lot as does the knit fabric (vs engineered mesh). I'm a woman, but I purchased the men's because customer service said they are built with more volume in the forefoot/toe box area. I take very brisk 1-2 hour walks with my 2 big, energetic dogs every morning. Walking surfaces are concrete, asphalt, dirt, grass, and trails. I know customers have complained about the peeling outsole layer. I haven't experienced this. To be honest, if it did begin happening, I'd remedy as best I could and hope Altra is fixing problem. For me, the benefits and postives of this shoe far outweigh any future negatives. Thank you, Altra! Please continue to make this shoe without changing a thing (other than the outsole).

My foot size is 11, narrow. The 11 M fit well because I could easily tighten them to my narrow foot center and high instep. I have put a couple of pavement walking miles on them and a 1/2 mile good dirt trail. They are my go-to daily shoes.

Excellent shoe, the sole started pealing but a little super glue goes a long way!

These have become my everyday shoes. I have nerve damage in one foot and walking can be painful. These are the best shoes I've found so far to ameliorate that. Just wish the tongue were softer.

These are ultra light weight running shoes. I wear them with inserts, which helps with softness. In any case, they are well made and sturdy.

I've always had to buy a wide shoe and in recent years I've suffer from numbness in my foot. The open toe box and zero drop are a life saver! The perfect balance of Freedom and Support. Please offer normal color patterns in your other shoes!!! If Altra ever stops making the Torin 5 Luxe I don't know what I will do!

I have sesamoiditis and have been dealing with really painful flare ups and I was unable to walk at times. I took a gamble on Altra and started with this shoe.
I am happy to say that I can walk where I feel like nothing has ever happened. This shoe is so nice and doesn't cram your toes together..
I can even step on my foot normally in these, which is helping with building my foot strength back (I accidently learned to step improperly to accommodate the pain)

Just ordered this morning. 5-7 day delivery but Altra asked for a review so here I am.
Actually I've been wearing these for a long time. I go through three pair a year. Keep buying what works best for me.

I love these shoes, most comfortable shoes ever. I'm an avid runner run 40 miles a week. I wear these all day at my standup desk because they're the most comfortable ones I own.

These are so comfortable. I have the Lone Peak 6 trail running shoes and the Lone Peak 6 hiking boots, both standard and weatherproof but I needed a daily soft comfy shoe and Altar didn't disappoint, I love these shoes.

Listen if you’re gonna spend 160 bucks for a pair of shoes they had better be THIS good. Hands down best fitting, most comfortable, most supportive walk/run shoes I’ve ever owned. Wish I could give 10 stars. A++++++

I've had this shoe for 2 years and love it! I do wish Altras would replace the insert like other shoe companies such as Brooks. Still you can't be this brand!
