Selected this shoe, the Gel-Kayano 28 AWL, for its expected durability. The materials look like they'll be long lasting. The collar around the ankle is thicker than on my other ASICS. Plenty of padding and support. I feel a little higher off the ground than with other running shoes. The "quick-lace" system takes me longer to use than regular laces but it does the job. I always order my running shoes in size 8.5 (wear 8 in regular shoes) and these seem to fit a little bit tighter, but that may be because I tend to wear them with thicker wool-type socks than my summer ASICS, or perhaps because the upper is less malleable than the squishy uppers of the typical mesh-type shoes. My foot type is over-pronation flexible flat foot with small heel; my great toe is the longest; somewhat wide forefoot. I tend to get plantar fasciitis and heel pain if my athletic shoes don't have enough support--no hint of foot pain with these shoes on. I expect to use these a lot, since it is cold and/or wet the majority of the year where I live, near Chicago. Appearance-wise, the soles do not flare out as wide as the soles of my Gel-Kayano 27's, and the colors aren't as feminine as I'd like, but the function is terrific and exactly what I was looking for.

My wife loves her ASICS. We ordered these for the upcoming cooler weather. First pair she's purchased that ran small. Had to return.

Didn't fit great. Very tight, shoe had a defect on one side and it dug into my toe. Disappointed. Also they're super ugly. I ordered them because I wanted a waterproof shoe but these weren't it. Also didn't love the lace system.

Great shoes for running in the rain or snow. Feel just like regular Kayano 28. I feel like they could possibly get hot though if you wore them in the deep summer. But perfect for the fall/winter/spring!

Great support and cushioning. I wear these for 8+ hours a day and 6 total miles walked daily too.

See my other review for a detailed testimonial on how much I love the Gel Kayano line. These shoes are getting me through the wet, snowy winter. They are super comfortable, waterproof, and have a pull cord rather than shoe laces. They keep my feet WARM and have become my go-to shoe when it's raining or snowing. They fit a bit tighter than the regular gel kayano shoe, likely because the material is not as stretchy. But my regular size still fits perfectly well. The tread is a bit more rugged than the regular gel kayano, providing better traction on wet, slushy, snowy roads and sidewalks. I definitely recommend these shoes for winter wear! They are awesome! And they look great too A++

These are great shoes that keep your feet dry with great support! Heel and arch support to keep me going all day.

Great water resistance ! Comfortable right out of the box - love 'em.

Best shoes ever! Comfortable and in my opinion water proof. It is not made with fabric, it's all rubber and if you step on a water puddle, no worries these sneaks will keep your socks dry.

Excellent fit, very comfortable-as expected. I like the new style laces. Just the perfect pair of shoes!

Have to break them a little at the beginning since they are a bit harder than the regular kayano but afterward they are great and very comfortable The lace system is very practical

Comfy and so easy to take on/off. The sole isn't too bulky like some other lines.

The fit is fine but these are narrow, great support and comfortable. Sized half size up but then they are a bit long.

Love the weather protection - waterproof, warm, and extra traction. Training outside on snow and ice this winter? Get these shoes. Potential areas of improvement: they are a little stiff initially - more so than a regular Asics. And the laces are tricky. They come with instructions (what?!). But once you get the hang of them they are simple and easy.

These shoes come STIFF. Definitely bandage up your heels before trying to break them in, or beware of blisters! Otherwise, they're amazing and super warm. Good for thin socks.

I am a nurse and I work 12hr shifts which mostly consist of being up and running around that whole time. These are very comfortable and I don't get the aching feet and back like I do in some other shoes. I love the fact they are not mesh on top in case something gets spilled on my feet. I really enjoy the cinch thing instead of tying them also. However, 4 stars because I wish these were available in wide and other colors.
