I live in Albuquerque, NM, so it gets pretty hot during the summer months, for this reason and to strengthen my ankles I always opt for low cut hiking boots/shoes. I previously had the Kaha Low GTX, which I loved except for 2 things, the first, the sole is pretty tall which led to countless rolled ankles, and second they got HOT. I know GORE-TEX is supposed to "breathe" (which is arguable) but it especially doesn't breathe when its wrapped in leather.
In comes the Anacapa Low. This shoe is a huge improvement on the Kaha in my opinion, the sole is thinner (but still plush) which allows the foot to sit closer to the ground, I haven't rolled my ankle once. And while they still opted for GORE-TEX, at least its not completely wrapped in leather so it has a much lighter feel.
I would give this shoe 4.5 stars because I do really enjoy it and would recommend it to anyone contemplating the purchase. However, I really wish Hoka would offer a hiking shoe/boot that is not GORE-TEX, other than their trail running models.
Additionally, sizing. When I first put it on I was concerned it might be too big, however its just a wide toebox which actually ends up being really nice.

I have tried out most of the Hoka hiking shoes over the years. I believe that, with this shoe, Hoka is approaching perfection. The somewhat more dense foam, gently extended heal, lacing system, heel support tab, and vibram sole all cooperate to create an exceptional ride. It really feels like a lot of R&D went into this shoe, and I'm sure it's going to be popular.
I have just one gripe. For some reason, Hoka has decided that all of their hiking boots and shoes need to have Gore-Tex. Many experienced hikers, on the other hand, avoid Gore-Tex like the plague because it makes your feet incredibly hot and, regardless of the marketing claims, it WILL get wet and never dry out. The Anacapa is no exception - even just walking around my air conditioned house, my feet are burning.
Most other hiking shoe manufacturers have caught on to the fact that thru hikers and backpackers do not want Gore-Tex and offer both waterproof and non-waterproof versions of their shoes. I hope Hoka does the same.

I buy Hokas for Walking, and Running. Love Hokas. My favorite shoes. Buy all the time. Great cushioning, comfortable, fit great, and protect from impact injuries. Thank you for an awesome product!

My son works outside and needs something waterproof in his feet . He was wearing Merrels for years but finds these to be more comfortable for his feet .
After seeing these go on sale, I purchased a second pair for him which he was very happy to receive . He has a narrow foot and his usual size fits well.

Both my husband and I ordered the HOKA GTX shoes and have received many compliments on the styling of the shoes. We both love the comfort and the waterproof feature of the goretex. To my surprise, my feet were able to breathe and not be overheated as I thought they would be with the goretex waterproof layer. Highly recommend these shoes!!

These are by far my most favorite of all of my Hoka's. I bought a pair last year and have worn them nearly everyday to work, where I'm on my feet most of the day. I just ordered 2 more pairs to replace my worn out out ones because I've been so pleased with this style and comfort level. Just don't let your dogs near them, because evidently they are quite tasty and therefore I'm about to order another pair right now please note, they did not arrive this way, the picture was taken after the dog ate them.

The shoes are just out of the box and walked around with them in my yard and driveway. They are SUPER COMFORTABLE without any break-in. I currently wear Oboz high top hiking boots and they are great, but are made for serious rugged hikes. The Oboz are too stiff and heavy for day hikes , so I wanted something lighter and more comfortable, but yet with a durable sole and medium tuffness. The HOKA’S may not last as long as my other hikers, but if I had to replace them once a year (or every 1000 miles) the trade off is well worth it. Excellent day hikers.

Always a size 12 or 12.5, not this time. Returned for size 13. Hoka One One has changed the toe box of at least a few of their shoes. Otherwise a quality shoe. I wish companies would just make products and STOP with the nonsense of preaching a cause to consumers. Huge turn off for logical people who refuse to be brainwashed by an agenda.

I used these shoes on a recent trip to the Grand Tetons in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Did the hike around Jenny Lake and the surrounding areas. Many miles were put on these shoes which held up well and supported my feet firmly and comfortably.

Use these for everyday wear and for walking to exercise. Very comfortable out of the box, but I found that since I have plantar fasciitis neither of the insoles were adequate to stabilize my feet all day. With a pair of more rigid orthotic insoles they are now comfortable enough to wear for prolonged periods of time.

Maybe I'll get used to it but the extended heel is causing me some problems, walking down stairs I catch it on the edge of the step. I like everything about the shoe except the heel, it catches on the craziest things and the results aren't good. My specialist recommended them as I have arthritis in my feet and quite high arches so they provide good support. I walk and hike a lot so the vibram soles are perfect and as I am wearing a light brace the reinforced eyelid make it easy to loosen and tighten the laces.

These are very comfortable shoes, but with the way they are sized I had to go one size up. With the extended heel it was like wearing river barges. Besides that the color was awful. If you don't mind the extra length and their color selection they are really nice shoes.

First of all this is my 3rd pair since I bought the original less than 4 months ago. I'd like to comment that the customer service has been very good except for the hassle of returning the shoes. My 1st (original) pair of shoes wore a hole in the left heel in less than a month and I only use the shoes for exercise (walking). The hole caused a plastic piece to come out and cause a blister. The return was accepted and I got a new pair, but I didn't like those (my fault) so I once again returned them and got a 3rd pair (current). Within 4 miles I got a blister on the right heel because the insole didn't fit properly and a hard edge was created. I replaced the insole with another one that I had for different shoes and now the shoes are fine. Conclusion: 2 of the 3 pairs of shoes that I have worn from Hoka have had workmanship issues, so I probably won't purchase them again.

Awesome hiking shoes! Had them for a year and a half now as my daily around town and hiking shoe and will be ordering another pair of these bad girls to replace my current pair as they have seen many miles. Very comfortable and great grip out on the trail.

Probably the most comfortable shoe I have owned. It is cushioned, light and great for city walking. The style is a direct result of its comfort features. It doesn’t, therefore, make a fashion statement.
