I am a female UPS driver in Kansas. I need all day comfort, a shoe with support, and great traction so I don't slip and fall. Also I need a shoe that can be warm in the winter but breathable in the summer AND waterproof.
ALSO I walk about 40k steps each day and need a shoe that is durable and can last a while but also be soft and comfortable.
I understand I am asking a lot of a shoe BUT this boot actually does all of those things. On day ONE they felt amazing. I have never had a boot feel like this. It feels soft and spongy under my foot and with every step it kind of rocks your foot forward to give you that momentum and they are freakishly light!
The bottom of the shoe is a bit wider than the rest and this makes it feel like I won't roll my ankle and like I have great support. I put a lot of pressure on the outside of my feet so this little bit of extra bottom makes them comfortable.
Another thing I love about this boot is that the back has an inner lip that goes up over it so the back won't give you a blister on your leg which I have issues with occasionally.
If you are on the fence about buying them I 100% suggest it.

I purchased three of these, trying to get the sizing right.
I usually wear 7 for tight shoes, 7.5 for normal sneakers, and 8 or 8.5 in hiking boots. I got this in 8 first. It was way too small, my toes almost touching the edge normally, and it was super narrow, albeit I am slightly on the wider side, though I usually wear medium. The tightness caused a severe toe pinch when walking uphill.
Also, I noticed that there's a lot of extra back cushion on these boots, so it really pushes your foot forward. With that and the narrowness, I got a size 9. And it was perfect for me. Leaves a thumb width space infront, ankles can be secured comfortably. Though it feels kinda funny and long sometimes. It is pretty narrow, but much better given the size up.
I have the speedhoat mid gtx, and those have a much wider comfortable toe cage. These anacapas are definitely narrow. So size accordingly.
It still has that soft hoka foam sole feel, but there's some tough rubber parts on the bottom, so there's a bit more protection in terms of feeling rocks and bumps and stuff.

I upgraded from Keen low top hiking boots to these new Hoka Anacapa's. They provide excellent ankle support and have ankle padding on both the boot and the tongue. I see reviews mentioning ankle rub. You need to ensure that the tongue placement is set correctly. With the amount of padding, not sure about ankle rub. They are true to size, have amazing traction, sole stability, great cushion. Biggest fan! I am saving to buy a second pair.

Purchased these to hike at Glacier. I had no time to break them in and was worried I would get blisters. These were so comfortable! I normally wear an 8 but in Hoka running shoes I wear a 9. Decided to go with a 9 in these hiking boots and I think I made a good choice. I wanted to make sure I had a bit of extra room to account for thick socks and swelling. If you're on the fence, get them!

Hiked my most technical hike to date in these and had zero issues. About half the hike up Mount Washington is rock scrabbling and these shoes gripped on like Velcro. Highly recommend!!

Because of foot issues, Hoka are the only shoes I wear. Everywhere, everyday. So when I needed hiking shoes, of course I turned to Hoka. These fit great, are cushiony, structured, just what I needed. BUT there is a design flaw, either that or my ankle is flawed. There is a seam that hits right on my ankle bone and it's very, very uncomfortable. I purchased 2 sizes to see which would fit best, so I thought, well, I'll just try the larger shoe - nope same seam. UGH! I thought about trying to fix it myself, but didn't feel like at this price point I should have to make adjustments to the physical shoe, and maybe it wouldn't even work and then I'm stuck with them. So back they go, unfortunately. No hiking boots for me.

Bought these for an 11 mile hike, and they didn't disappoint. I love the Hoka brand and wear them exclusively for daily walking/running. Right out of the box they were comfortable and completely supportive as the hike was lots of technical climbing up and down steep hills. And they were waterproof, we had several low stream crossings and at some points it was easier to just run across, my feet stayed dry. I would highly recommend these.

Bought these before 12 mile high elevation hike in below 0 temps. Had no time to break them in, but didn't need to. Light, warm, enough support and room, great traction shoe! High top boots are a must on rocky trails and in wet, slippery weather conditions. These are a bit roomier than i used to but i love it for a thicker sock and for swelling and to allow toe splat. I have morton's neuroma and these are great with all the extra room.

I'll start by saying that the reviews are correct; size up for a better fit. I'm a women's 7.5 usually and I ordered an 8. They fit perfect with a little extra room for socks if you know what I mean. These shoes would have been too small if I ordered my regular size.
Everyone says Hokas are the most comfortable but I'm serious when I say these are like clouds straight out of the box.
The toe box is slightly wider than average which makes for lots of room for toes and socks.
Laces stay tied, tongue only digs into your ankle if you lace them super tight. My feet stayed put and did NOT slide forward in the shoe like some other reviews mentioned.
I'll also say this, my feet are small and these shoes make my feet look MASSIVE ! But I don't care because they fit me well, keep my feet dry and are very capable in the muck. Excellent traction and stability on trails as well as wet asphalt.
I'd buy this shoe again!

I haven't been able to hike in years due to plantar fasciitis. After years of treatment using a multi pronged approach the swelling and pain reduced to the point where I thought it was time to try again. These shoes were suggested to me by a friend who has suffered off and on from the same condition. The medium width fit my somewhat narrow, high arched foot well with plenty of room in the toe box and virtually no slippage back and forth. I was able to adjust the width to some extent to accommodate different weights of hiking socks and they are waterproof, so I should be able to use them throughout the year. The ankle support afforded by thee higher shaft was definitely appreciated. I did need to size up by 1/2. I wore them around the house for several days before deciding to keep them. I was able to hike about 10 miles over rough, mountain trails without discomfort. I could probably have managed a much longer treck, but decided it was better to start again slowly.

I bought these for an upcoming hike. I've been doing some practice hikes and didn't even need to break them in so comfortable, my feet feel great ! My sister has also purchased a pair and is absolutely in love. My next purchase will be there tennis shoes and I'm going to get a pair for my mom and dad as well. Hokas are my new favorites!!!!

Everyone has their own preference for fit, so I read the comments with that in mind. I ended up choosing my own size 9. It was not too tight nor was it loose, I do a lot of hiking up and down hills and over rocks and I want a snug fit that will not have my foot moving in the boot. For my own preference, I don't want my foot to slip forward (toe crush) or move as I'm prone to blisters on the bottom of my feet and heels. When I first put them on the ankle was not right, I did have to adjust the tongue, ensure it doesn't wrap over either ankle bone. After a bit of adjustment, I hiked with no problems at all.

This is my second pair. The first time I bought these it was to walk the Camino in Spain. While others compared blisters in the evenings I had none. Zero. I bought these just before I left and hoped for the best. I was so pleased to realize I had the best. I only walked 12 to 15 miles a day on paths that were everything, pavement, rocks, dirt, old roman roads, and a lot of uphill and downhill. I feel like I can feel the ground beneath my feet , which is important to me and yet the sole has so much cushion that my feet feel wrapped in a pillow. These hiking boots make me want to get up and walk so I am headed to Spain again in September. I will never buy another brand of hiking boot.

I've been out in these a few times now and they do a great job keeping my ankle (that was sprained last year) secure. The size that fit is 1/2 a size larger than what I wear in Bondi and Clifton.

THE BEST! Even though I’m a huge Arahi fan, after reading some reviews, I was a bit concerned about possibility of heel rubbing. And indeed on Day 1, I did experience very mild heel rub the on left foot. But by Day 2, they were perfect - so happy I gave them the brief break-in time! (My Arahis need no break-in) I have awful back and knees (post two surgeries), and these boots make winter hikes on easy or moderate trails possible and dreamy. (Can’t speak to strenuous rated trails) It’s all about the cushion, shock absorption and stability: no knee or back pain! Already bought a second pair as winter boots since waterproof. Thank you HOKA and Zappos!

Size up half a size.
These are light weight, great for crossing small streams, comfortable, excellent on a downhill, supportive, and I've already ordered a second pair. I put about 400 miles onto these over the last six months, all over the desert southwest, and they've been an absolute dream.

These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, hands down. I have had numerous foot issues (plantar fasciitis to stress fractures) and these shoes check all of my boxes. I can't recommend them enough. Kudos Hoka!

I am usually a size 8 and I went back and forth if I should get an 8 or 8.5 in these shoes, as I have a wide foot. After trying on both pairs with thick and thin socks, I finally opted for the 8. While the 8.5 felt a little more comfortable with my thickest socks, ultimately, I thought the 8 offered the most support while still having a little bit of give.

My mom bought me these before our Iceland trip knowing that we would be miles and miles of steep uphills and very rocky downhills. I couldn't believe how comfortable these were. I did not struggle at all when I walked and hiked up a pretty steep dirt/rock path to view the active volcano and then down very steep and rocky side to the lava fields. Most people around me were slipping and falling. These shoes are amazing. At first I didn't like the color, but in Iceland, I kept getting compliments everywhere I went. Now I love this orange-yellow color and it seems to compliment and brighten up any outfit.

Perhaps I'm getting a size too small, I thought going up .5 to 1 size higher would be fine. With hiking socks on, my toes almost touch the tip. Not quite a thumbs length away. I have to also be mindful there' some cushioning on the shoes and thick socks behind my heels.
With that being said, the goretex material is quite unforgiving, based on my effort to stretch it for 2 days using a shoe stretcher. The width feels more narrow than medium. And there are these stitchings horizontally straight across the end of the lacing section, that forces it to fold right there.
All these aspects come together to cause toe pinching when I walk in these shoes. To clarify, it feels fine when I'm walking on flat ground, but when I walk on incline, there's a tendency to grip towards the toe area than the heel, causing a fold that digs into the base of my big toe joint, in the already kinda tight toe cage. Perhaps if one of two of the issues above weren't there, I'd still be able to wear these shoes.
Sadly, I bought from a reseller, as the color and size is not available, and I've very much worn it, so can't return. As it's not cheap, I'll be putting my faith in another pair of hoka hiking boots this time.
But some good parts:
The gore tex does not stretch, but is pretty maliable in shape, so if your sizing is correct and feet are not too wide, it would be really comfortable.
The shoes are really light, almost as if you're not wearing anything, yet, you're standing on springy clouds. So you just feel like jumping and running and jogging.
The grip is ultra strong and feels very secure.

Now that I have worn this shoe for about 6 months and put in about 4 miles daily, I feel that I can write a fair review. I hike with my dogs in hilly country with wet grass, mud, and areas that are rocky. The shoe has great traction, but unfortunately after 4 months or so, the shoe is no longer waterproof. My socks get wet walking in the wet grass. It provides excellent traction in most all conditions and my knees do not hurt hiking in them. They do not irritate my tiny bunions at the flex line on the big toe side of the foot. Overall, even though they did not prove to be waterproof after 5 months of constant wear, they are a comfortable shoe (tennis shoe feel but supportive enough for hiking everyday without a pack). I have had many Hokas from road running shoes, trail running shoes to other hiking Hokas, but I think this is my favorite.

I love Hokas. I have used their running shoes since 2016. The footbed of these were very comfortable but the right foot when laced up was actually painful. One of the grommets pressed into my ankle bone. Was not something that could be broken in unfortunately

I don't really go hiking, but my podiatrist recommended Hoka hikers and these are what I found. the Anacapa mid helps support my ankles and feet. I have flat feet and posterior tibialis tendonitis. They're not a miracle cure for my sore feet, but they do seem to help and I've been going for 2-4 mile walks several days per week.
