Newton's are the best running shoe out there with models and variations to meet a range of needs.
mostly they are for runners who want a light responsive shoe made for midfoot to forefoot strikers (which is the proper way to run vs coming down on your heels and the pounding that involves, even with huge heel cushioned shoes).
being a more minimalist runner who is larger at 175lb/6', i am a forefoot striker who needs the trampoline style lug system of Newtons (yes, it really works, damping impact and returning some energy as well). i am a minimalist runner who has only asphalt and concrete to run on, so i need a zero or near zero drop shoe that can offer some sort of help with the surface hardness (without huge cushioned soles, which i see as detrimental to developing proper leg strength).
if what i've mentioned sounds like you, or a direction you might go with your running, definitely check out Newtons. there are no better if you want to get away from huge cushion heel shoes, or huge cushion soles...which rob your lower legs of the development they should come to on their own).
I'd also recommend:
for years now since i went minimalist/minimal oriented, i exclusively use Newtons

these are one of the few major brand running shoes that offer a minimalist or near minimalist shoe. almost all other brands have treated minimal running like a fad, which it isn't. it simply means running on the balls of your foot vs the heel, which is the way one's body is designed to run. heel running with huge heel cushions actually transfers more shock to the body than running on the mid-to-front part of the foot. AND that is what Newtons are designed for, with the retractable front lugs that actually work. my preference is the Distance since it has the lowest toe to heel drop (only 2mm). i'm basically a minimalist runner who wants little cushioning and a flat sole, but since i run on asphalt and cement i need some cushioning for my 65min runs. the retractable front lug system on the Distance is perfect for minimal runners who are either transitioning to minimal running (which takes up to 2yrs of muscle development) or for us minimal runners who run on harder surfaces, and can't go to a fully uncushioned running shoe. this is the best shoe anywhere for minimal running (non-heel striking) on harder surfaces. i've bought a lot, and i know.

this is the best for this type of running.

I wear these every day. They are definitely more of an advanced runner type of sneaker than the Focus - there is less padding on the heel and more on the forefoot. Awesome sneaks!

The shoe is well constructed. But when running the seams around the top of foot create uneven pressure.
