Let me start by saying I may be the X Ultra's biggest fan. I recommended the Ultra 3 Mids to every single person i know. I had been waiting for these 4 for a while as my Ultra 3 Mids were needing some serious replacing. The 4s came just in time for the snowy season and they did a decent job staying dry. My biggest problem with the Ultra 4s is that they seem to have sacrificed some important comforts of the 3s in order to deliver a lighter shoe. The sole of the 4s have a thinner feel and their tongue is very narrow and thin. I have found that my feet hurt in the 4s after a long walk, whereas my 3s could (and have) kept me comfy for countless miles. I'm hoping this changes with more wear on the 4s but I really feel like they are simply just worse boots than their predecessor. That being said, the 4s are still a good boot, and if you are one of those people who can just throw on any boot and rock with them, I'd get yourself a pair. Unfortunately, I might have to be looking for some old stock of the 3s.

I bought these shoes a month ago and wear them everyday to hike 3 to 5 miles with my dog. When considering comfort, weight and ankle support I give it 5 of 5 every time. I like this shoe so much I ordered a second pair and have it in reserve just in case they are not available next year or whenever they wear out.

I typically wear the Salomon mid 3 gtx and decided to give these a shot. When I received these they felt lighter in weight. The fit was the same as any other Salomon shoes. I have now worn these for 5 months and it feels like the support in the ball of the foot area is thin. Also the soles have worn quicker than I expected, I have worn through the black tread and is now in the grey mid sole. I wear these shoes 5-6 days a week and walk quite a bit every day.

I bought these for my partner after reading and watching a number of reviews. They seemed fairly good upon arrival. However, he has worn them for one very relaxed short dog walk and came back in agony.
The top lace hook pushes through from the inside of the shoe and digs into the ankles. I have had a feel and I don't know if this is just how they have been manufactured, but I can see why he doesn't want to wear them again. There doesn't seem to be enough padding on the ankle area and so the metal in the interior that attaches to the hook can be felt pushing out right above the ankle.
So disappointed as I was hoping to give him a great birthday present.

Shoes are snug, the design details are pronounced.
Free to choose: Go for lighter colors and 1/2 an inch bigger size (you will need some wiggle room for your toes out on the field).

I hiked The Grand Canyon in a pair of Salomon full height boots and liked them so well I had to get the mid height boots too. These are the lightest hiking boots I own. Lightweight does not mean less quality. These are solid, comfortable boots right out of the box. I have done several 5+ mile hikes in them and love them. Only downside is the green color on the website is a little different than the actual color, which is more of a teal blue/green. Love the boots. You should give them a try.

I bought these for work over a month ago and absolutely love them. As a Police Officer I'm on my feet a lot. The boots are light, very comfortable and seem to be holding up well. There was no break in period which I've had with the past Ultra's that I've owned. I've been wearing Salomon Ultra's for over 15 years and this is by far the most comfortable pair so far. I highly recommend them.

I bought the X Ultra Salomon boots august 2016. There are super confortable. I think I chose the perfect size for me. I complained yesterday about the eyelets that completely broke (not recently but just told them yesterday), which means I can not pass the shoelace through anything therefore I can not wear the boot. I believe the design for the eyelet is not made to last. This is so disappointing because the boots are still in great condition. Throwing them in the garbage would be so wasteful. These days everybody is talking about recycling etc.
I am about to buy the ultra 4 ( I want to give them a chance) but I must be honest reading the reviews about the waterproofing and quality in general I am a little bit hesitant. I have been buying Salomon for many years (skis boots etc) I hope that Salomon is not trying to cut on quality. As they say , building a reputation takes long time but ruining one could be done fast. I really want to try them again.
I wanted to share my story about the eyelet with people to see if I am the only one experiencing this issue.
Please let me know if you are experiencing this too.
Thanks

So. Love the shoe/boot. Built well, super light. Unfortunately, they seem to be a bit larger than size. (I wear US 10.5/11, bought 11's and way big- maybe up to a size? Ihave a slightly wider foot, and can definitely tell these are a narrow shoe.
But, they are well made and lightweight!

I bought a pair of these and a pair of hokas. The hokas are a little more comfy but already getting holes and ripping. These shoes seem very durable and high quality. Gortex is the best. Both purchased about a month ago.

Been wearing Vasque but thought I'd try them. Size is pure. Foot bed and arch contour is better. Softer grippy sole gave me confidence to climb some Arkansas terrain I hadn't done in 4 years. I appreciate the continuity from the sole to the upper. I can tighten or relax lacing and boot holds desired shape. Going thru gravel river beds was no problem and remained dry. There's attention to details ( laces, eyelets, front toe, lightweight ) I appreciate. Still pretty new for me, but great first impression so far!

I can't say enough about these boots! I bought my first pair (the older versions) back in 2012 and finally wore them out after 7 years. I live & play in the Pacific NW, and we get all 4 seasons here, with plenty of rain. I wear these boots as my everyday, and never worry about my feet getting cold or wet by stepping in parking lot puddles, or get around in wet grass, or walking through a few inches of rain where ever I am. I also don't worry about my feet getting hot during the sunny season hikes, as these boots breath nice! I love how these boots wear like a light-weight trainer or basketball shoe that you can run in, and not a clunky, hard to break in, heavy hiker that hurt your feet after a full day of pounding trails. In fact, I love the function and feel of them so much, I stopped buying hunting boots all together, and started wearing these as my go-to archery hunting boot. I buy 2 pair at a time, and cycle through them with a pair of Salomon running shoes, to keep things fresh, and not have to look to buy new shoes for a solid 4-5 years. I highly recommend these to anyone that is active and looking for protection from the elements.

Whether it's a rough day of hiking, a 16 mile asphalt walk, or just daily use, can't go wrong with these. Plenty of miles have been put on them and they have held up very well. I was recently stuck outside in a storm at work for about 4 hours and the only thing that stayed dry were my feet. I will immediately be buying another pair once my current pair get too worn (no signs of that happening anytime soon after over a year!).

I bought this a month ago and have been on a couple of hikes since. They're very comfortable, have a good grip and are completely waterproof. I was caught in a storm and had to walk through small streams and my feet stayed completely dry. Only minor issue is that some stuff (sand, leaves, etc) can come in as the ankle opening is not very tight (but I guess if it was more tight you would lose comfort). Overall highly recommend

Compared to the Keens, Garmont and other Military boots I've warn- these are the best hiking, trail or everyday wear boot I've ever worn. They look and feel phenomenal and are LIGHT but sturdy. I'll buy another pair in another color. You will not be disappointed
