Full disclosure: I thought these were clown shoes no matter how much my trail-running husband endorsed them. Gave them a try and opted for the 8.5 (I have one foot size 8.5 and one foot size 8 and a genetic disposition for bunions so that’s made shoe-buying fun). 8.5 was too roomy in the toe box and felt ridiculous, went with the 8 not expecting anything great and the fit turned out to be excellent. I wasted no time taking them out on a rocky terrain hike with steep inclines here in Nevada and they really impressed me. Traction was excellent and the shoe felt great coming downhill too (this is where hiking shoes have failed me in the past - toes getting jammed to the front of the shoe as you start your decline). Heel and ankle support felt sufficient as well. TLDR: I have janky feet, I love to hike and I endorse these shoes.

Please bring back the original Timp!! The upper part and insole/outsole were so perfect, but all the new versions, especially the 3, are too flat on the upper part, pushing down on the top of the foot and making it extremely uncomfortable! The slanted lacing pattern also made the upper part of the shoe so comfortable, and combined with the bottom part, it was the perfect trail running shoe! That is also clear from the reviews on this and the 2 compared to the high reviews of the original!

Altra zero drop women's shoes are only ones I can wear without pain. I have Morton's neuroma in both feet from too many years in soccer cleats. These shoes allowed me to avoid surgery

Lighter weight than my old Timps, but they definitely run long. I'm usually a 10 in Altra and I had to exchange for a 9.5, I suspect I could have even gone to 9. Tops are flexible and thin, very comfortable. The colors are true to photos. The only change I'd make is to increase cushioning under the heel, and that's only because I have a horrible back. The 3's are still better than my old Timps in terms of shock absorption and overall comfort. I will repurchase them when this pair start falling apart.

I got it just before my R3( rim to rim to rim) at the Grand canyon. 42 miles 11000 elevation gain and loss. I did it in 18 hours and 50 minutes in these amazing shoes. I had not one blister. No pain no discomfort. I did not slip not even once despite all the rocks I encountered. Truly amazing comfortable shoes!

I had the Timp 1.5 and loved them, but they did require a "breaking in" period because they were a bit stiff, and I didn't really like the asymmetrical lacing. Then I tried the Timp 2.5 and they were very stiff and uncomfortable, I didn't like them at all and so luckily these came out within my return window and I returned the 2.5 for the 3.0. Timp 3.0 are softer and comfortable right out of the box, but sturdy enough to trail run. I did lace them with a heel lock, and I think this makes a difference to keep my foot in place. My last Timps were both size 8, and for these I am in a 7.5 (point of reference, my regular shoe size is a solid 6.5 or 36/37. I always size up for running/hiking). I did notice a bit of a narrower shoe than other Altras but still roomy enough for me. I did a couple shorter runs and a hike in these first, but had no problem to get right into 9-10 mile runs. I alternate the Timp for trail runs with the Escalante for road running and it works very well. I added some pictures below to compare, the Timp 3.0 only have about 40 miles on them so far, whereas the 1.5 have over 375 miles so are way more broken in! Also note the asymmetrical lacing on the Timp 1.5 makes them look wider.

I REALLY wanted to like the Timp 3! I still have two pairs of the original Timps and love them, especially the offset lacing and the solid yet nimble feel of the shoe; the original material also feels more durable (you know, for actually running trails). Even the Timp 2 is better than the Timp 3! I ordered the Timp 3 from the Altra website in Women's size 8/Dark Blue; pretty color and snug fit, except for the tongue: As soon as I began running, the thin tongue cut into my instep and slid around and slid out of place; very uncomfortable and distracting, eventually causing numbness. Overall assessment: The Timp 3 has great potential, if Altra just makes the tongue thicker (like the thickness on the Rivera); otherwise, if I want to actually RUN in them, I will just wear my older Timp models. (I returned the Timp 3.) SO disappointed, especially since the Timp has been my go-to shoe as a road-trail hybrid. ALSO: Altra is conforming too much to what the other running shoe brands are making. What happened to "Zero-Drop", "Foot Shape", and offset lacing? Altra might win some new mass-market fans, but they are in danger of losing their core fan base -- runners who were looking for something different, something BETTER, something UNIQUE. I'll check back to see if Altra ever returns to the design foundation that truly set them apart from the competition.

It feels at least a centimeter to narrow and now pinches the feet and I'm getting blisters for the first time ever in a Timp. Feet beware! I love altra for the foot room but not in these.

I sized a half size down in these based on reviews, and that worked great. However, there is virtually no room in the toe box if your foot isn't flat. I have very high arches and thus a high volume foot, and the Timp 1.5s were perfect. I put these on out of the box, and my foot already feels cramped. I can't imagine what this would feel like on a run. I really wish Altra would stop making a narrower and lower toe box. I will be returning these and trying other brands.

These are the coolest looking trail shoes and I'm so bummed they didn't fit--heel is too wide--but 5 stars for rocking customer service and a forgiving return policy.

Trying to find a shoe that fits and is comfortable is always a challenge for me. A Morten’s neuroma on my left foot plus bone spurs in the great toe I need room and I need a little firmness under my great toe and I also need cushion between the third and fourth toe. Then my right foot has a plate with six screws in the big toe so I need a shoe that is somewhat firm but at the same time plenty of room. With that said, I can say that the temp three has been very comfortable. I took them for a 2 mile walk yesterday and my feet were happy. I did put a solo foot bed in the neuroma shoe and left the right shoe as is. So nice to find a pair of shoes that are comfortable and I can wear. This is my fourth pair of Altra shoes but a different style than I previously had. I like them so much I’ve ordered a second pair. Another thing, I have a narrow heel and the shoes did not ride up and down stayed put without lacing them tight.

Very comfortable shoe right away. Has quite a lightweight feeling on my foot which I like and need. Wide toe box which is hard to find and helps my older foot treat my toes to more room. The shoe has a slight bit of a 'negative' heel; I don't know how that will feel on my back after awhile (per my chiropractor's concern), but I like the shoe enough to keep it, wear it, and change out of it after a few hours to relax the back muscles, if even necessary.

These shoes literally saved me from surgery. I have a deviated hammertoe pinky (folded, creased toe, walk on the side instead of the bottom). Wore Hokas for 10 years. Every couple of years my podiatrist would urge me to have surgery, with four weeks in a boot and no exercise for 6 weeks. Not an option with my job and lifestyle. About six weeks ago, my new Hokas, Stinson 6, were causing tremendous pain and blistering. Exchanged them for a Bondi 7. Pain/blistering was worse. Went to podiatrist for new shoe recommendations. He said, "No shoe will help, only surgery." Still not an option, but I could hardly walk. After a solid week of research, I ordered an Altra Timp 3 in 6.5, my usual size. They fit perfectly. No pain--just support, cushion and a roomy toe box. NO PAIN. Also ordered Inijini toe socks. With them and the Timp3, I'm back to 25 miles a week again WITHOUT surgery. I will never wear another running shoe.

My previous Escalantes and Lone Peaks had lost their spring. Of course, I ran the heck out of them. So, I tried the Timp. It is very comfortable, and I don't even feel them when running. You know how you run and you sometimes notice your shoes? Not these. Reliable and comfortable and the tread is sturdy.

I had the original Timp, liked everything but the stitching inside on top of my toes that was murder on a backpacking trip. Then bought 1.5 and my feet slid around and I couldn't get the heel tight enough. I could work around those problems. The Timp 3 just wont work, there isn't enough fabric on the uppers so it squishes my foot. I have never encountered this problem before. Returning to try a different Altra.

The newer shoes have too thick of a heel - can't feel the ground! I've tried other Altra shoes, the TIMP 3 was the best design. The colors were good too. I don't care for the neon, hideous colors of the newer models

I love Altras for a lot of reasons but the material on this pair seems cheap and I don't like the look of the shoe as much as I"ve liked other Altras.

I recently purchased my 1st pair of Altra's - the Provision 5. They're so comfy & I'm on my feet all day at work. The Timp's are such a close match that I can barely tell the difference. I would recommend both styles to anyone :)

I run my dogs in agility trials in the trail runners (TIMP2 and TIMP3), my feet never get sore anymore - and I get 25K-35K steps a day. Wear my Solstice in the gym and wear my Escalantes to work. No more plantar fasciitis, no more losing toenails! Also do some personal training and got one of my clients into a pair of Escalantes - she loves them so much she bought another pair.

These are super comfortable right out of the box, with lots of toe room and cushy uppers. Walking in them feels great, kind of bouncy like I'm being propelled along. The arch support is ok, not quite what I'd hoped, but I'll try them for awhile before deciding if I need to upgrade the insoles. The colors are nice (light grey and coral) but these are too boxy to be a cute/trendy pair of sneakers. They are about comfort not fashion.

Best hiking/walking shoes I've ever owned. This is my second pair. Toe box is so nice and roomy. Grip and cushioning feel superior to other walking/running shoes I've used. I take a size 8 wide in other brands and the size 8 feels great. I wear them on the hiking trail, neighborhood streets and around town. Love them.
