I don't like for things that I like to be re-designed. I was afraid that the new Provision 5 would be too different from the 4. It is, but in a good way. More toe room, but without making them look goofy. Shorter shoestrings so I'm not having to double knot like a little kid. A second top shoestring hole so I don't even have to do a runner's knot, or whatever it's called. Even better colors than the Provision 4. Very comfortable for aging, collapsing feet. I'm not a runner, just a 64 year old woman who is trying to age gracefully and, by the grace of God, stay on my feet! I'm hoping my feet will last for the remainder of my earthly journey. If Altra keeps making good supportive shoes, I might just outrun the wheelchair or the walker!

I bought these a few weeks ago for treadmill use (mostly incline walking, some running). I've been an Altra wearer for several years. This is my first stability shoe from them. I have bunions and flat feet and notice a nice difference when wearing the Provision 5. My heel was slipping out at first, but then I did a runner's knot for the laces and that's not a problem anymore. Only thing I wish is that the toe box is a bit wider, but it helps that the material upper is accommodating. My next step is to save up to buy a pair for work since I'm on my feet all day. These are the best stability shoes without being inflexible and heavy (like mainstream shoes such as New Balance).

In my previous review I stated that the laces could not be threaded through the tongue of this shoe. Happily I discovered that I was WRONG about this. The shoes arrived with the tongue "loose" and I did not look closely enough to see the little slits that allow for lacing through the top of the tongue to hold it in place.
Now I would give these shoes a 5+.

I'm disappointed that your ladies Provision 5 shoe is not the same comfortable fit as the three previous Altra shoes that I wear. The surface of the sole is so narrow that my foot extends past the edge of it causing me to roll my foot outward when I walk. I regret that I had to return them. I will gladly recommend your brand to others, just not the Provision 5 shoe. Thank you that the return was processed just as promised.

I bought these Provision 5 shoes to replace my Provision 2 shoes. I use them for running, both shot & longer runs. The difference between the 2 & the 5 is amazing! These new Provision 5 shoes are super light and fit my small, narrow feet perfectly. I normally wear a size 5 in regular shoes and a 5.5-6 in sneakers or running shoes. I purchased the 5.5 size and they feel great. (I also have high arches)
The shoes are great at handling my pronation and are fun to run in. I recently completed a 7-mile run in these shoes. The run went smoothly and my feet & legs felt good while running & when I was done. The only issue I had, which is a problem with every shoe, is hot spots. ( It doesn't appear to matter which socks I wear either, ie toe socks, regular running socks, thicker socks, etc)
The shoes have a perfect mesh of cushion & stability.
I purchased the Coral/Gray color. I love the color.I love the shoe.

I almost always have used insoles with my fitness shoes, in part bc they take up space and I have such a narrow foot. I wanted to switch to a more minimalist show and gain strength back in my foot and ankle. These are perfect and I super appreciate that I can actually find a show that works with my narrow foot. I saw some reviewers complain about that, but it's what guided me to these shoes! Narrow footed people need shoes too!

I bartend. This is my 5th pair of Altra’s. I feel like they keep everything in line with the zero drop technology. My feet are narrow and these seem to run just a bit more narrow than their provision predecessors, but for me this is a good thing. I’m on my feet 10 hour days and when I’m done they might be tired but they never hurt. I also had a back injury that was bothering me and after wearing these for two days (no break in period needed) my back was even feeling better. I have high arches. These shoes support natural arch support and I find that they are really the only brand I care to purchase. The downside is I wear them everyday - I rinse them off twice a week and so they don’t last long. I can make a pair last about 8 months to a year and then I have to repurchase, but I don’t mind because the relief and alignment they provide are well worth the trade off. This is my 3rd pair of provisions and I’ve had two pairs of the off peak high top all weather hikers. These shoes do what shoes are supposed to do. Support overall posture and alignment so your body can feel better being active.

This was smaller and possibly narrower than other Altras I've bought in the past, so I had to return the item. However, I was amazed at the extremely short shoe laces provided, a definite minus, even if they had fit properly. No room at all for a runner's knot--that is, I tried to do this, and there too little left over to tie the shoes! This seemed strangely stingy. Since the fit was too snug for me, it is actually hard to assess how these would have been a half size larger, although the laces were a real turnoff.

When they arrived, the shoelaces were damaged- frayed at the end and I couldn't lace - so I didn't make a big deal and just switched them out, as you can see, but after wearing them 4 or 5 times, I tripped on a pickle ball court because the bottom layer (orange - see photo) was unglued. Unacceptable. Obviously someone had sent these back damaged and they came right back to me. Unusual for Zappos but completely unacceptable.

These shoes have a wide toe part which is very helpful to me. I have neuropathy in my feet from a bout with cancer. These shoes so help with their support and fit

The upgrades for this shoe are great. The toe box seems a little wider and the shoe is overall more comfortable for running. The GuideRail system seems more streamlined, yet still provides some medial support that makes it a good choice for those who need it. The only "negative" I see is the shoestrings are a little short, but they can definitely be replaced.

Low to zero drop shoes are hard to find and I was getting g a callus between my toes from the others I had tried. These are much more comfortable for me.

I only wear Altras. I love them thanks to the wide toe box & zero drop. But, my last three pairs have blown out the heel (inside mesh fabric wore through quickly). Customer service was great & recommended trying the Provision 5. I'm a month in, wearing every day for ~ 3 miles. So far there is no discernible wear on inside heel. Also, I have a narrow heel. This shoe hugs it beautifully!

I've worn at least a dozen pairs of the Provision 2.0 and 2.5 and have not liked or purchased any of the "improved" versions until now. To me the 5.0 is a better Provision. It is lighter and more flexible. My only real complaint is the fact that you cannot thread the laces through the tongue to hold it in place, so it slides to the side, which is annoying. The insole has little bumps on it, which some may like. I think it caused some friction for me because my feet were hot after 3 miles on a cool day. I'll try different socks to see if that helps. Overall, I am very happy with the Provision 5. Thank you, Altra!

This is my third pair of different Altras. I bought these because I am a pronator and was starting feel like I needed more support than my Escalantes had to offer. For this purpose, they feel great, I am already noticing improvements in my stride and the was my feet/ankles/knees feel; however... the thing I love about Altras that's keeps me coming back is the wide toe box. These have a decidedly narrower toe box than both the Superiors and the Escalantes, and that is somewhat disappointing. Still comfortable, but I wish they maintained the foot shape and wider toe box of other models.

Appreciated that on these don't look as boxy as others in this category. Two things bugged me enough to return though: The width around the ball of the foot was a bit snug over bunions. The top is stretchy but in the past I find if it stretches too much it will wear and fray. Also found these too cushy. Like walking on a life preserver.

These just don't fit right for me. I bought them for my longer runs when my Escalante Racer would not be comfy past about five miles. So these were supposed to be my long-distance slow run, long run shoes. My form tends to go after mile 4, so the guard rail for only when I need it seemed to make sense unfortunately, these don't fit snug. The toe box fit well for me, the midfoot fit well for me, but the tongue slipped all over. I have added a photo of both tongues having slid to the side after a 3 mile run. (Well I tried to upload a photo but Altra's site isn't letting me.) My worst gripe is that after about 2 miles, the heel physically moves. I wear socks above my ankle, but could only imagine the chafing from the heel moving up and down at least a half inch every single step - worse when you run uphill. The heel does not hold to your foot and I felt I might just slip out of these shoes mid-run.

I just got my Altra Provision 5's. I have high arches and pronate. While these shoes look a little clod hopper like they feel amazing and I can feel the stability they provide. They fit me perfect. I have a low volume foot so often shoes are too wide and loose. The length is perfect and seems just right. This is my 5th pair of Altra's and I rarely wear any other shoe unless I have a formal event.

The Provision 4 was the first shoe I put on and immediately knew I liked. I have purchased several pairs. Everyone is different, but unfortunately the upper on the 5 feels too snug for my toes.

I am fairly new to Altra's and am a complete convert to the healthy toe box design! My feet are finally healing from years of abuse and squished toes. I have been wearing the Paradigms and am in love with the 5's - the stability and CUSHION, as well as their lighter weight, is a huge selling point but I wanted to try something with a little less cushion to strengthen my feet - hence the Provision 5. Out of the box, the black were sleek looking and made my size 9.5 feet look smallish! YAY! They felt wonderful and my toes felt happy in these light weight spacious yet well-fitting shoes. I am a distance runner but decided to take these for a test five-mile walk. The honeymoon ended at mile 3. I kept having to readjust the lacing, my foot felt like it was sliding off the outer edge of the shoe, my metatarsals were completely exhausted trying to stay centered in the shoe as did my ankles. I could not wait to get them off when I got home. I will be returning these - because having cute feet is not as important as having healthy feet I can walk and run on!

Everything about these shoes is perfect for me! A year after a foot injury and surgery that I will never completely recover from, I need a shoe that offers support and cushioning. I am not a runner but I am a walker in these shoes.
